Set List

Postby ltbob » Fri May 21, 2004 7:53 am

I wonder if Sammy will be willing to sing more old stuff this time? Do you think the set list will be close to the new double C.D. ? If I get to go I'd love to hear Hot For Teacher, I'll Wait.....

I'm not so sure we will ever hear Sammy singing 'Hot for teacher'........some of thise old tunes have an indelible Roth stamp on them, IMO.
More chance of maybe hearing a couple of more obscure Roth era tunes I think, as well as the staples 'Jump' and 'Panama'.........

I hope he only does his stuff. I can't stand the way he does Jump, Panama and Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love. Rather get a couple more Van Hagar songs. I wouldn't want Roth attempting Sammy's stuff. God no.

This from BW&BK:
According to a recent interview with Billboard.com, VAN HALEN are promising plenty of surprises when they hit the road this summer for the first time in eight years. "This set we're playing right now is better than any set we ever played before," Hagar commented. "I used to be a little sensitive to the old material, but I'm not now. We have a whole different outlook on everything. Let's make this the greatest songs the Van Halen fans have ever heard. The set list will kill you!"

"I'm really digging 'Jump' right now," he added. "In the old days I never got off on singing that song. I would pull a guy out of the audience to sing it. Now, I want to sing this song better than it has ever been sung. I'm tearing it up!" He also insisted "there's a couple of surprises in [the set], one in particular that is completely oddball."

The group will issue its first new material since 1998's Van Halen III on the upcoming Best Of Both Worlds retrospective, due July 20 via Warner Bros. Hagar boasted that "there were 10 other songs we could have worked on. If there'd been time, we'd love to have done a whole record."

I've opened yours a thousand times
As I wait for you

I've fought the battle from the start

It bleeds without remorse

Hagar's response

Postby locobenno » Mon May 31, 2004 1:43 pm

Yeah I'm a bit disappointed that Hagar mentioned he's excited about perfoorming "Jump" again. Wow, even in hiatis this track was well overplayed on the radio. Be nice to hear something totally out of the box from DLR era Halen, but someone else has said here already that there isn't much that Hagar could emulate, they're just too full of DLRisms.

Still, I'm totally wrapped that the boys are back together and am thinking of heading to the states to catch them live, given there's little chance of them heading down under :-(

Cheers and beers

Sammy singin Dave

Postby ltbob » Tue Jun 01, 2004 10:23 am

I don't really care if Sam sings the old stuff just like Dave, I just wanna hear Ed play some of the leads on the older stuff. I'd just like to hear some "new"..lol, old stuff, instead of Jump , Panama, Aint talkin....so on..I love those songs too, not burnin on them at all. Atomic Punk, Hot For Teacher, Unchained, and alot of others. They played Unchained in St.Louis in 91 I think it was, it was great.

Didn't they kick off with 'Mean Street' when Cherone was in the band? (I think they did in Melbourne anyway). Anything off Fair Warning would be very welcome. I can't believe there is only one track off this album on the 'Best Of'.

Wonder what Sammy means by "If there'd been time, we'd loved to have done a whole record"??
Sounds pretty short term, doesn't it?

Yeah, I thought that as well Kenny...but I read in one of those interviews that it had more to do with getting on tour earlier....they would have had to wait another 12 months if they were to do a whole album. I personally would have preferred to wait but hey....

All you have to do is watch the RHRN concert video to know what the Van Halen/Sammy Hagar reunion tour will be like except with a little bit more songs speaking as an old VH/DLR era fan.

Interesting is the first thing that comes to mind.

He's the little fat fuck on stage with his dad....

Not sure I'd want to go to a VH concert to see his son...would rather just have an EVH solo

VH on tour

Postby Teddyballgame » Tue Jun 15, 2004 1:11 pm

Hey folks this is my first post here and I am sorry for a bit of negativity. I have seen the boys 14 times in my life and NEVER missed a Dave show or a Sammy solo show either. My life was soaked in VH for 25 years, but this current state has left me with a bad taste. Don't any of you feel like the big screw is on? No ill will for waiting TEN years for this? Sammy comes back and everything is cool now? "Little white lies" must mean nothing to Sammy now? Eddie is this biggest prick in music and has shown all of us nothing but SPITE AND CONTEMPT for the last ten years and we repay that with paying OVER $100 for a seat in front of the stage?! How can all of you sit back and let this go without so much as a ruffle of our collective feathers? SAMMY AND DAVE TOURED TOGETHER BECAUSE EDDIE IS A DICKHEAD! Val couldn't even take it. And now we talk about how great it is to see them again? This is BOGUS! They stole enough of my time and money and the night they are in New England (Two nights sorry - the closest show is 65 miles from my home state that hosted VH over a DOZEN times), I am going to get a bottle and a bomber and listen to three hours of their best stuff and lament my fallen idols. By the way: the dude who put the "Shy Boy" lyrics up and credited DLR missed the fact that that song is a remake and those are NOT Dave's words.

Sorry for the poor attitude gang. Looking forward to Iron Maiden getting back to the US again. The only band left for the fans...

They did the following Dave songs at the Meadowlands Tuesday and Wednesday Night:

Jump (opener tuesday)
Somebody Get Me a Doctor (Michael sang it)
Unchained (the biggest applause easily on both nights)
Panama (typical)
You Really Got Me (opener wednesday)
Ain't Talkin' Bout Love

Unchained is the only song I've never heard Sammy do. So I'm trying to figure out what they are telling us here. They should can these songs and play more Sammy songs. It would've been cool to hear the following instead:

Cabo Wabo (pass around some drinks Sammy)
Amsterdam
Can't Stop Lovin' You
Summer Nights
Feels So Good
Mine All Mine

And there's plenty more you guys could choose. If Van Halen wants to play Dave era material then get Dave and do it right.
