Why no Cherone songs?

Postby Mr.Rock » Sun May 23, 2004 5:49 am

From Van Halen's official site;

THE VERY BEST OF VAN HALEN
POSTED 5/19/04

The band's forthcoming release, titled "The Very Best of Van Halen" will hit stores July 20! The two disc set features the following tracks, including three BRAND NEW tunes (not necessarily in this order):

Eruption, Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love, When It's Love, Finish What Ya Started,
You Really Got Me, Feels So Good, Jamie's Cryin', Black and Blue, Runnin' With the Devil, Poundcake, Beautiful Girls, Runaround, Dance the Night Away, Right Now, And the Cradle Will Rock..., Top of the World, Everybody Wants Some!!, Can't Stop Lovin' You, Unchained, Not Enough, Dancing in the Street, It's About Time (NEW!), Learning To See (NEW!), Up For Breakfast (NEW!), (Oh) Pretty Woman, Hot For Teacher, Jump, Panama, I'll Wait, Why Can't This Be Love, Dreams, Best of Both Worlds, Love Walks In, Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love (Live), Jump (Live), Panama (Live)

Is he (Cherone) being swept under the carpet?

Yeah I'm not sure I'm too happy about this album - I would have thought it might have been 'Best of - Vol II'.......instead it seems we are to get an entirely new best of.
Maybe it has something to do with new management, but now everyone who has 'Best of Vol I' will get a lot of the same songs in order to get the three new Sammy songs!

Not sure why no Cherone era Mr.Rock, I guess 'Without you' and 'Fire in the hole' could have been starters at least.
I'll still buy then bloody thing though!!

That's always the trouble with compilations. The only reason for existence is to get to the bottom of your bank account. They're produced for a: the complete nu-B who doesn't know jack or b: the die-hard fan who wants to have everything ever done... If you fit the b-mold, be prepared to spend a lot of cash. Or just download the three new songs. Maybe that'll teach them (the record companies) to f*ck with the fans. release a new album! With all new songs!

This compilation is a blatant cash in. I dont know if the release of volume 2 would have been a problem legally??, but they certainly have enough great songs to make a volume 2 without repeating songs.
The fact that Cherone tunes are not on there shows that they are sweeping that era under the rug. If they dont acknowledge it, it doesnt exist. Those live versions are a joke. Why put live versions of songs that are already on this or the best of compilations? Its filler if you ask me.
The 3 songs better be killer. 6 years to write a few good tunes. I still get a funny feeling that we VH fans are laying bare chested, waiting for the VH corporate machine to take a big dump on our chest.

That's what I have been thinking......surely there can be no other reason for it.

Don't know if I like the analogy.......

I know its going to be a double CD, but I would have preferred them not to have repeated some of the songs that was on 'Volume I'. I think its taking the piss out of your average Van Halen fan.
What it boils down to is this, Will the new 3 songs be worth the price of a double CD? I hope so.
Like Nubman said, 6 years for 3 songs.

Although those three songs are undoubtedly a teaser mate - Ed has said he has enough material for about 10 albums........exaggerations aside, I'm inclined to believe he has plenty more to offer.......

He may have 10 albums worth, but I'm assuming these 3 songs are the cream of the bunch. What is he gonna do if they're slagged off? We may never here the rest.

I'm not sure that's a sound assumption mate.
Be cool, we're getting some new VH material!!!

A cash in?

Really, no shit?

That is what this whole reunion thing is. I only hope it last long enough for Eddie to "unleash" this musical constipation he has been suffering from.

Gary Cherone of 80's rock band Extreme fame will be forgotten in VH history before too long for obvious reasons since he was an average fromtman despite being a great singer in his own right. VH3 will be forgotten in VH history as well even though I think it's a great album(I wouldn't buy it) if you're not expecting Van Halen, Fair Warning & 1984. The greatest hits compilation Best Of Both Worlds is just something for the record company to hype the Van Halen/Sammy Hagar reunion tour & to introduce this legendary rock band to the younger generation because the young people of today know Justin Timberlake more than Eddie.

Postby ltbob » Sat Jun 12, 2004 6:43 am

Now that I have heard all three songs, all I got to say is thanks for the test drive, Im not buyin them. He has been playin the same old wore out crap on and on for 15-16 years, its not fresh. He sounds like a little kid in a music store 25 years ago tryin to sound like Ed Van Halen. Ed needs to hit the woodshed!! Good God Sammys guitar on all his latest records blow this crap away.
 Tired of makin excuses for B.S.

I don't care what anyone thinks, VHIII was a good cd. It was sure better than Diver Down. Gary is a major talent, but most fans are far to closeminded to try anything new or let a band grow.DAVE IS GONE!!!!
Suck it up and learn to deal.

Gary is a little gayboy who didn't belong. Either Dave or Sammy as frontman of VH, no one else!

VH3 with Gary Cherone of Extreme fame as frontman of Van Halen is a forgotten album in VH history & by most of the fans while I thought Without You & Dirty Water Dog were alright but VH3 is a great rock album( I wouldn't buy it) if you're not expecting Van Halen, Fair Warning & 1984!
