David Lee Roth

Listening to my local radio station on the way in to work this morning, they were discussing David Lee Roth. Apparently it is official - he is now an EMT in New York. I had heard earlier in the year he was training for this type of work, but I thought it was all PR.....

According to those that trained him, he was one of the best students and very dedicated. He has also asked them not to identify the areas of New York he covers with his EMT unit because he did not want to draw attention to himself.

Rock on David!

I just read this myself.

Here is a link to the article on Fox News:

If this is true, it makes the other guys in VH look dumb for suggesting that Dave somehow needs treatment or medication. Everyone has their own eccentricities... but it takes a truly special person to serve either as a soldier, a paramedic or a fireman... and for people like that we should all be grateful.

Thanks Ash for posting that article....it is exactly what they were reading from this morning on the radio.

Kudo's to David....you are absolutely right, it does take a special person to do that type of job.

From what I've read, Dave's father was a doctor. I don't know if his father is still alive, but perhaps his father instilled something in him that has influenced him to be a paramedic.

Or maybe it's a back to basics thing for him... maybe he genuinely wants to contribute to society in a meaningful way... to help people. Granted, some would say his music contributes to society... but helping save lives is another thing entirely.

Personally, I think its great he's doing this. I hope he finds peace doing it, and with his drive... i'm sure he'll succeed.

I think a lot of people really dont realize how intelligent Dave is. He is a goofball most of the time, but he is no dummy. The other perception is that he is in need of cash or something. Dave apparently lives comfortably and supposedly has plenty of cash.
Since he is not looking for publicity, and doesnt need cash (it really isnt much anyway for all the important stuff paramedics do...plus its training so it may be him paying for it) I commend him. It takes real character to do this. I guess it also takes a real "character" to try it.
Hats off to Dave.

It's not that big of a deal of to me since he used to work in a hospital before rock stardom in Van Halen if you have read Dave's great autobiography Crazy From The Heat speaking as an old fan.
