Did Dinosaurs really exist?

Postby Don » Fri Jan 28, 2011 3:59 pm

You know, you can't always have your cake and eat it too. Judging by the responses to theological topics in a few of the threads, I'd really like to see how this plays out.

Of course they did. The fossil record says so. The fossil record also shows that though dinosaurs lived for millions and millions of years, we've yet to find a "transitional" fossil of one type of dinosaur evolving into another type of dinosaur.

In my opinion, it may be the single greatest argument against evolution.

So, if we reach a consensus that Dinosaurs existed then we move onto the subject of time lines.
We have the one camp that says Dinosaurs existed hundreds of million years and then there is the other that says man and "Behemoth" co-exited together for a time.
Anyone want to share their opinion on this?

How about we stay on the fact that macro-evolution apparently took a break for the millions of years that dinosaurs roamed the Earth?

How and why did this happen?

What about all the transitional" fossils that are out there, like Archaeopteryx and Sahelanthropus tchadensis? Pezosiren portelli or Moeritherium? How many transitional" fossils need there be to show intermediaries between the intermediaries? How much more inferential evidence will be required to suggest to you the evolutionary relationships between specific organisms? You yourself seem to concur that all this was going on millions of years ago. It's not like this stuff is going to make itself easily accessable, yet despite the obstacles discoveries are steadily being made everyday to support it.

Yes they existed, and people kept them as pets. I saw it on the Flintstones with my own two eyes.

Yes, and I fall into the second category. All throughout the Bible, "Dragons" are mentioned. So and so slayed a dragon. "fire breathing dragon", etc... The word "Dragon" changed meaning in our English dictionaries about 400 years ago. The original word meant both dinosaur and dragon.

There are paintings on pottery and walls around the world that depict Pterodactyls and other dinosaurs with humans. They would paint things they witnessed in life and they used paintings to tell stories. I believe that they painted what the saw. There are still tribes today that live in the most remote parts of the Congo that say there are still Pterodactyls today. I've seen interviews where some of the tribes claim that their children have been scooped up and taken away by them. They're terrified of them!

Just my $.02.

Good point. Scientists were also certain that the coelacanth had been extinct for 65 million years until they actually discovered one in 1938.

How cool would that be if they actually found some?

I hope I live to see the day scientists can really create a Jurassic Park. :D
