My favorite vocalist ever. There's an HD version of that clip but it doesn't look as HD as it should. It sounds awesome, either way. The clip of "Invisible" at that same show is gnarly!!
Did you know they're releasing an Elves (Ronnie's pre-Elf band) retrospective?

Um, Killing The Dragon is a superb album. Maybe you need to listen to it again.
"Strange Highways", and "Angry Machines" need to be burned.....

Most likely the biggest RJD fan here...Red Caps, Electric Elves, Prophets....etc. just don't like the album.
Ever hear "Mask of the Great Deceiver"?

Strange Highways is a blistering album!!It's like where Dehumanizer left off...dark, deep & heavy!

Only for the last twenty years. It's on Kerry Livgren's Decade, along with "To Live For The King."![]()
Ever hear the cover of Aerosmith's "Dream On" sung by Dio, with Yngwie Malmsteen on guitar?

Yep...A step above "Lock Up the Wolves" before it and certainly better than "Angry Machines" after it.

Those two songs first appeared on Livgren's "Seeds of Change" album, which came out in 79 or 80, I believe. Pretty good album, IMO.

Okay, let's not get silly here.Strange Highways was something of a sleeper when it came out, with an awesome opening track, but it doesn't trump Lock Up The Wolves. Dio had a helluva band on that album, including none other than Jens Johansson on keyboards. Of all the guitarists Dio worked with throughout his post-Rainbow/Sabbath era, the consensus is that Tracy G was the least impressive, with Campbell, Goldy and Aldrich being the best.

That is correct, and when Livgren's great 2CD collection Decade was issued, Seeds Of Change was not in print. At least not on CD.
And lo! There was Seeds Of Change, in its entirety, on CD1 of Decade, with fantastic new liner notes all about the creation of the album. How convenient that was twenty years ago!

I like "Lock Up the Wolves" but I still think "Strange Highways" is a better album regardless of who was or wasn't the guitarist, keyboardist, etc.

Well, like most prog bands the majority of their material isn't necessarily prog but songs like "Song for America", "The Pinnacle", etc., certainly are.

To which bands are you referring? I listen to a lot of prog outside the mainstream UK/USA contingent.

I could care less about consensus...to me, Tracy G was the most Iommi-like guitarist he ever had. He wasn't the shredder Goldy or Campbell was, but his tone & style were quite heavy & dark...much more so than his presecessors. Even Angry Machines had a couple of cool songs on it.
