The first thing that I need to make clear is that there is only one thing atheists have in common and that is a non belief in god. Other than that there is no common belief set so I can only answer your question personally. Yes, I believe in love, but if you are going down road of saying you can't see love and can't prove love, but you know it exists and this is how Christians know God exists, then I think you are on the wrong track.

Love is an emotion, the same as anger and chemical changes in the body can be observed. Have a look at this link:

Exactly right. I've heard this logic used before but it's not valid in the least. Love doesn't exist as an independent entity with a consciousness. It's a resulting emotional condition.

Ok, the link is pretty silly. And to say there's no relationship between the two is sillier yet. Our bodies may experience certain biological and chemical changes, but then what? You can experience lust, attraction and attachment to someone without "loving" them... Furthermore, when someone tells you they love you, how can you be sure??? Do you ask for proof, and if so in what manner? Do you check hormone levels?

Asking someone to prove God exists is a lot like asking someone if love exists. There are all kinds of examples one can give, but since it's a spiritual thing, there's always gonna be someone to tell you you're full of shit.

Exactly right. Ego response.

I've heard this logic used before but it's not valid in the least. This is a story.

Love doesn't exist as an independent entity with a consciousness. Ego assumption.

It's a resulting emotional condition. Another concept.[/quote]

Story, concepts and ideas all thoughts in ego. In other words meaningless.
At least I know I write bullshit but believing your own now thats rich.

Of course when I write I its use is in conceptual terms only. 8)

Your repsonse is so weird real G...I'm... Jim.

The only love I have ever experience is unconditional love and not false love received as a reward for whatever as you seem to THINK you experience.
Trying to make it personal with the monkey thing seems to be your forte. There is ONE LOVE and its not chemical ITS UNCONDITIONAL.!!

Lighten up dude Reality is love itself unconditionally experienced. Nothing to do at all with body chemicals.

Check out this youtube link it says it all for me. Listen to the lyrics. Love is and you are missing my point utterly.

Ok, I'm responding to you again here because you made these deepest cutting remarks at the deepest personal level. So lets get the personal stuff out there, the way you are intent on having it.

Both my parents have passed away, Mum 21 years ago at age 54 from spine and rib cancer, she died in excruciating pain, the type pain medications did NOTHING for. As I live in another country I didn't get home to see her, because my Dad's advice was to remember her the way she was. She lost 5cm in height when her spine collapsed. A short 5 weeks from diagnosis is all it took.

My Dad passed away 11 years ago this month. This time though I got home for 2 weeks to see him. Every morning I brought him home from the hospice to spend time with him in his own home and every evening I brought him back to the hospice to be pumped with meds, he was dying from throat cancer. This was the best and strangely the closest 2 weeks I had ever spent with my Dad and I am still grateful to this day for that. !0 days after returning to my own family he died after slipping into a coma when the secondary tumour in his neck closed of blood supply to his brain.

Maybe you don't like or understand my posts, does that give you the right to make it this personal. Its about religion and different views about it and life.
I tell you all I did not want to write this stuff here, not my choice at all.
Don't forget to run spell and grammar check over it and report back. I write warts and all, nothing fake about my posts.

Thanks G.I. Jim, I'm not going to stoop to your level and write what I think of you right now.

Very sorry to hear about your parents. I did NOT make it personal. You posted that there is no God if you aren't loved 24/7. God does love us 24/7. My post was stating that just like your parents, he puts up with a lot from us and we disappoint him constantly, just like we do our parents. That doesn't mean that they no longer love us. Sorry if you took that personally, and I meant no disrespect to your parents.

The monkey thing? Well, I just had to throw that in as evolutionists drive me crazy. You're free to believe what you'd like but I do not believe that we evolved from anything. Just my belief.

What's the point of continuing with the ignorance?

We didn't evolve from monkeys, but from a common ancestor shared with other hominoids. This isn't "crazy", but easily proven through genetic testing. We evolved as a race around 200 000 years ago, and migrated from Africa 140 000 years later - again; easily proven through mtDNA comparison.

You're right, there is no point continuing with ignorance. You continue to believe we evolved. I will continue to believe in God. Nobody will sway you, but I'll pray for you. This thread really is pointless, and I will refrain from posting in it anymore.

Majik, I am sorry to hear about your dad. GI is a good person, it is not like everyone knew you are going through a rough time. I think most people here are quite understanding. Hang in there.

I too for the most part feel this thread is pointless. It is has been argued to nauseum. We are just rehashing the same old disagreements and I for one am tired of beating a dead horse. I just wanted to get back in to have a laugh with majik about a play on the word utterly and other than wanting to give him my condolences on the passing of his father, I am out of here.

I may be changing my mind... apparently miracles do still happen!

http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/ ... d-the-pope

On second thought, judging by that last photo, if that were my kid... I'd be very thankful for his life, but skeptical that the end result was the "handiwork" of God.

The bible thumping crowd isn't all bad. Apparently, even Jesus Freaks need to have some "fun"

The Muslims are not happy! What a fucking news flash!

They're not happy in Gaza .
They're not happy in Egypt .
They're not happy in Libya .
They're not happy in Morocco .
They're not happy in Iran .
They're not happy in Iraq .
They're not happy in Yemen .
They're not happy in Afghanistan .
They're not happy in Pakistan .
They're not happy in Syria .
They're not happy in Lebanon .

So, where are they happy?

They're happy in Australia .
They're happy in England .
They're happy in France .
They're happy in Italy .
They're happy in Germany .
They're happy in Sweden .
They're happy in the USA .
They're happy in Norway .
They're happy in every country that is not Muslim.

And who do they blame?

Not Islam.
Not their leadership.
Not themselves.
THEY BLAME THE COUNTRIES THEY ARE HAPPY IN!
AND THEY WANT TO CHANGE THEM TO BE LIKE THE COUNTRY THEY CAME FROM WHERE THEY WERE UNHAPPY.

Excuse me, but
How dumb can you get?
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Watched history being made today in D.C. as 20,000+ atheists rallied at the National Mall. The Westboro Baptist Church? Total no-shows, but the atheist son of Fred Phelps was there and he is one very cool guy!

Never thought athiesm would become a proactive religion, but apparently it has become one. These people are no longer non believers. They believe in something of a higher power that causes them to meddle.

The one thing i have always thought is messed up especially in our country is the groups or divisions caused by what a person thinks or believes and while the world is falling apart in front of our eyes instead of trying to fix it the republicans and democrats end up threatening to shut the government down at different times or things end up being stalled or not gotten done because instead of coming together and fixing things these two parties clash, argue and refuse to move ahead.Things like this are sadly happening and instead of things getting done they won't get done because of the stubbornness on both parts. In other parts of the world similar things are happening also and instead of people putting aside their differences and coming together to fix the world's problems nothing is getting done because of petty things like religion, race, gender or creed being put in the middle of everything.Somewhere down the line people will realize these things and put aside their differences to make the world a better place.
