What one neurosurgeon says as highly unlikely, other neurosurgeons will say yes it is likely. And it hasn't been a year. A head jolt of any kind can cause ripping and tearing of little tiny capillaries that can slowly bleed for months, and cause a subarachnoid hemorrhage. The other high possibility for the cause of his bleed, especially being diabetic, is an aneurysm.

Except for this part.....

"With further testing and rehabilitation, they are hopeful that Bret will gradually improve as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months," the statement said.

Yep, and I hope he can recover as best as possible. Hyponatremia is an electrolyte imbalance and can have a couple causes, could be all the fluid he's receiving, could be the pain he experiencing, as well as pain meds., both can increase anti-diuretic hormone and cause water retention.

Agreed, recovery in any form beats death. But I have a (probably a stupid one) question......why does that blood have to be reabsorbed into the system, especially if it such a painful process for weeks/months. Can you not abstract with a syringe or something? :?

No that's not a stupid question! It's a great question! My guess is the size of the bleed is the main factor. They'll take a non-surgical approach if they can if the size is not where they feel surgical intervention is necessary, since surgery of any kind is risky, and with this would be especially even more risky.

LOL, I know. Would love to be there with you crazy buggers this weekend......but it all worked out in the end, cuz I'm finally getting to Cali in July to see 2, count 'em 2! EMB shows in one weekend. And I've been waiting a loooong time to see a full EMB show.....I've seen him a few times but always as part of like Scrap Metal or joining JSS for a song.....so just a few songs at most. The San Francisco flight is like a third of the Chicago flight. I definitely couldn't have done both. So the best I can do is the donation to MRF2 and then live vicariously through you nuts this weekend. So there better be posts and texts!
