Carolina at New Orleans - The Panthers continue to play well and appear to have found a very good QB. That said, this is a MUCH higher level of competition than they are used to. The Saints still have an outside shot of a first round bye (not likely, given the Niners have zero chance of losing to St. Louis). I suspect this will be an entertaining and high scoring game on both sides of the ball. I like Brees to put an exclamation point on his season and make it VERY difficult for MVP voters to vote for Aaron Rodgers. Saints by 17.
Buffalo at New England - Rumor has been all week that Brady is injured. I'm not buying it. Brady is the most competitive guy on the planet and still hasn't forgotten that he is the reason they lost to Buffalo earlier this season by throwing 4 picks in that game. He hasn't thrown 4 picks since then in the entire season. I personally could care less about the number one seed (only the Patriots and Saints have won a Super Bowl over the past 10 years as a number 1 seed), but I do think the first round bye is VERY important. A number two seed would definitely bring a more favorable schedule in the playoffs, as a number one could mean having to beat both Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Luckily, both of those games will be at home. I expect Brady to play and play well. He'll pass Marino's passing yards (but not Brees') record, put some points on the board, and probably hold a clipboard for the 4th quarter. The Patriots won't have 3 of their 5 starting offensive linemen, so I suspect Buffalo keeps this "closer" (comparatively speaking) than I would think they would. Patriots by 14.
Chicago at Minnesota - Chicago is reeling and doing all that they can to finish the season at .500. Minnesota isn't going to have much on the ground with Peterson on the shelf. I suspect that this will be an ugly game. Bears by 3.
NY Jets at Miami - The Jets better not sleep on Miami. Miami comes to play hard every week. The Jets just can't seem to win a big game and are probably going to be looking for a QB in the off season (Peyton Manning, anyone)? This game is going to be VERY telling for the Jets. I believe that if they lose this game, Sanchez has a really good chance of being traded or relegated to bench duty. Jets by 7.
San Francisco at St. Louis - St. Louis still has an outside shot of the number one pick, because the Colts have a VERY winnable game against a bad Jaguars team this week. St. Louis simply doesn't have anywhere near the talent they need to stay on the field with a good 49'ers team. 49'ers by 17.
Detroit at Green Bay - Green Bay has abolutely NOTHING to play for. If I were McCarthy, I would still get my starters on the field and playing football. You don't want your key players to go three weeks without playing football and risk coming out completely flat in their first playoff game. Detroit doesn't have much to play for either, as they are either a 5 or 6 seed, and it's not going to matter much, beyond drawing a very beatable Dallas or Giants team in the first round. Detroit by 4.
Washington at Philadelphia - Neither team is playing for anything. The Eagles have a shot of finishing .500 on the line, and that's about it. The Eagles are the better team. Philly by 14.
Indianapolis at Jacksonville - This game will tell anyone who watches if the Colts are really trying to lose this game (and I think that they absolutely will do everything in their power to lose this game). The Jaguars are not a great team (even though they have twice as many wins as the awful Colts). I just believe the Colts have their marching orders from Polian that they must not lose out on the number one pick, as teams with Peyton Manning should never even be in the running for this pick. Jaguars by 7.
Tennessee at Houston - I have been predicting Houston would start fading for the past 6 weeks, and they finally have started their slide. I don't see it ending here, even though the Titans are a very mediocre team. The Titans believe they still have a shot at the playoffs and Houston is coming off of two straight losses. Titans by 7.
Seattle at Arizona - Both teams are heading for the golf course. The only thing on the line in this one is that the winner will finish with a .500 record. I don't love either team, but the Seahawks have a slight edge with a solid defense and Marshawn Lynch. Seattle by 4.
Kansas City at Denver - On paper, Denver should absolutely win this game. They have the home field and an outside shot at the playoffs. Kyle Orton is coming back to a city and team who simply didn't want him. I promise you that this guy wants nothing more than to stuff it up Denver's ass. Kyle Orton gets the last laugh here and obliterates Touchdown Jesus. Chiefs by 14.
Tampa Bay at Atlanta - The Falcons need to get their heads out of their ass and decide on what team they want to be. Their inconsistency isn't going to fly in the playoffs. They have a perfect recipe to get back in the W column this week...a bad Tampa Bay team. Falcons by 21.
Baltimore at Cincinnati - This is easily my toughest game to pick this week. Back when the Bengals were rolling through the NFL and before they played Baltimore or Pittsburgh even once, I predicted that they would lose all four of those games. They haven't disappointed me, as they are 0-3 in those games. Baltimore has proven to be a lousy road team this season and at this point in the season, that starts to get into a team's head. The Patriots had a team like this a few years ago, who simply could not win on the road. This is a HUGE game for both teams. Baltimore must win to get the first round bye. If not, Pittsburgh gets the bye and Baltimore becomes a Wildcard team. If the Bengals can simply win a game, they are in the playoffs, and become a first round cupcake opponent for whomever gets lucky enough to draw them! Bengals by 3.
Pittsburgh at Cleveland - Just like last week, it doesn't matter if Ben plays or Charlie Batch plays, given that The Girls Scouts are on the schedule. Steelers by 17.
San Diego at Oakland - So long Norv Turner. I guarantee that this guy is finally going to get fired (even though it should have happened years ago). The Raiders will finally have a winning season, even though it doesn't mean much. Raiders by 10.
Dallas at NY Giants - I am still amazed season after season the ways the Cowgirls find ways to lose games. I'm not sure that I've seen a team with talent squander so many meaningful games away. I simply cannot pick Dallas or Romo to win any game that counts. Until they prove otherwise, they are a poorly run organization. Jerry Jones is a complete buffoon who simply doesn't know how to pick a head coach. Giants by 7.
