They're not my favourite, but I like some of their songs: 'Someday' and 'Gotta Be Somebody'. You can really hear Mutt Lange's influence in GBS. Truth be told, I don't like the song 'Rockstar' either, but I thought stevew would appreciate the video!

We don't have a lot of Canadian rock bands achieve the level of success that Nickelback is currently enjoying and we're proud of them for that! They are hit hard by critics and blasted for being unoriginal, but are critic-proof - they've sold 30M albums worldwide in nine years and are still going strong with a loyal fanbase. I don't own any of their albums, but I wouldn't mind going to one of their concerts and seeing what they offer live.

Thanks TS - I should have remembered they were originally from Hanna! It's only about a 2 hour drive from Olds, and I spent a lot of time there when I was younger and summer vacations meant trips to visit the relatives. (No Wally World for me!) !

 Me either - Deb and I just talked about that in a thread awhile ago - she got Vegas vacations, we did Sylvan Lake! (And yes we are proud of our successful Canadian bands  )

LOL! Yep, we went to California a few times for Christmas vacation when I was a kid, always a day or 2 stop in Vegas. Driving made it affordable, wouldn't have been able to do it if we all flew probably. We were totally the Griswalds too. Mom, dad and us 3 kids in the back (usually one napping/or timeout in the back back  ) of the family station wagon. Mom loaded us kids up with car games for the trip (like those invisible ink books, remember those? ) but there was always still fighting. Typical Griswald vacation postcard........ kids hanging out the window going down the "crookedest street" in San Fran.  My poor dad, we kept begging him to do it again.....you have no idea how many times we drove down that street.

 When I was 6 and my brother was 9, we did get a family drive across Canada - from BC right through Nova Scotia. Even in a 1970s tanker, which could fit 8 people comfortably, it was close quarters with a bored brother! Video games or DVD players didn't exist then and we basically drove straight through on the Trans Canada. We used to beg our dad to lay on the horn in the tunnels east of Golden in Kicking Horse Pass. With drivers today, that would cause a major pileup when they freaked out.

Does anyone else have a dad who liked to pass convoys of cars and then didn't want to stop for even the bathroom because he knew he would have to pass all of those cars again? The only times he stopped other than for gas (thankfully that tanker sucked down gas or we would have had to hold it between provinces  ) were either nightfall or hearing the words "I'm going to throw up!" (me). Although he did threaten on many occasions to pull over - over 4000km in a car one way, I'm surprised the car didn't get pulled over more often!

LOL, we used to love those tunnels too when we were kids. Wow, all the way across Canada? That's a lot of driving. Never been to Nova Scotia or eastern Canada except once for a friends wedding in Oshawa. Most of our summer family vacations were pretty much in BC, Kelowna/Penticton area.

We were probably in Kelowna a lot at the same time! My grandparents, aunt, and cousins lived there and we were only a couple of hours away. My parents never did a cross-country drive again after that one. I've been to Ottawa since, but I flew WestJet. Quite frankly, if I ever had to drive east again, I would visit my relatives outside of Calgary, then cross the border into the US and skip Saskatchewan and Manitoba completely!

Madonna! Anything and everything that she does now and has for the past maybe 20 years aggravates the piss out of me. Just seeing pix of her on the internet causes me to dry heave.
I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.
