Roland Grapow had a fair bit to do with it Jonny.....I've got this album on the way, actually.

My AOTW goes to...the first half of Within Temptation "The Heart of Everything."

Track 7 features possibly the most annoying vocal effect I've ever listened to, and the album just never recovers after that. My review is also up on the female rock forum.

Can't wait to see them live.

I agree with the first half being better than the second half, Jonny.

My AOTW is Scorpions - Love At First Sting. I'm Leaving You is a small gem that I've overlooked for a long time. The subtle guitar lines during the opening verses (or are they actually the chorus? :?) and the solo in between are both very beautiful.

Great song that S-Dip....gonna crank it up tomorrow.

My AOTW is Dream Theater - 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence. Been in the work car all week!

My AOTW goes to Ayreon "The Human Equation." Arjen must be due for a new one soon, but how is he gonna top this one?

Sorry to hear about your mate Tali....my AOTW is Shadow Gallery - 'Room V'

These guys are great but they do frustrate me - I file them under 'Threshold' i.e. bands that have so much potential but could be so much better.

My condolences go to you Tali.

My AOTW is Rush "Test For Echo"

I have problems getting into their 70's stuff...Couldn't tolerate Geddy Lee's falsetto. And I much prefer their synth-driven 80's sound...but as far as overall albums go, I felt this was their most consistent effort, and a glimmer of light during the peak of the shit 90's music scene.

Thanks guys..the funeral is today...he was a full-on, always going 1000mph guy. Was only 34...looked 21 and acted like he was still 17. He'd been having a hard time recently with his wife taking off with his kids and wanting to take them back to Japan (her home country)....probably a big contributing factor to his brain hemorage.
Anyway.....i totally agree with Kenny's assesment of Shadow Gallery..and Threshold for that matter...Room V is their best album though.

My condolences, Tali.

Deep Purple - Slaves and Masters... I love the bluesy feel in Truth Hurts and Fortuneteller.

Perhaps it's still greatness in progress... both got better with each album I think, although I'm not really getting into the new Threshold record... :?

Hmm, I guess the acronym would make a good -though not too modest- band name even!

What is it that you don't like about the new Threshold? How does it compare to the last two?

I keep buying their albums, each time hoping the next one will be better....not that they are bad albums or anything, just that I have this feeling they need to break some kind of barrier to go to the next step.
