Let's not get too carried away with New Orleans. Drew Brees is a STUD QB. That said, two of their three wins are against Buffalo and Detroit. I think the other thing you can't lose sight of is that as good as the Saints are on offense, their defense is VERY suspect!

True. The same can be said of Baltimore of wins against The Chiefs and Browns. If the Saints can put up 48 a week, then their defense could get away with many issues, but you can't expect those results all season long. It'll be interesting which teams fall and which teams rise to the occasion.

While I don't disagree with your premise about the strength of the schedule both of these teams have played, New Orleans doesn't have ANYTHING close to the defense that the Ravens can run at you, and their offense is almost as prolific. New Orleans is currently scoring only about 6 more points a week than Baltimore, and that's quite a statement given how AWFUL the Ravens offense has been, FOREVER! I love the Saints offense, but their defense will get exposed in a HUGE way when they play a team who actually has an offense!

Over the past couple seasons, it was the Saints defense that was the major red mark on their regular season run and at some point I agree that if the game is on the line and Bree's and company is having an off day, then N.O's will have a tough time in tight games.

As far as Baltimore is concerned, yeah they always had a stout defense and probably always will, but talking this year, is that the culprit of going against offense's of Kansas City and the Browns, and vice versa? The jury is still out & Baltimore will be tested later on. As 50/50 as the Steelers looked, they still held the Titans to 10, the Bears to 17 and the Bengals offense to 16. Scoring a lousy 20 points (Which could of and should of happened in each of the 3 contests) isn't much to ask from your play makers. Baltimore gave up 24 to Kansas City with Brodie Croyle at QB and 26 to SD. 3 against the Browns.. well, does that really count? Haha. I'm worried about Baltimore, but they don't scare me 3 games into the season thus far. If they keep it up consistently, then yeah it's theirs to lose, but only at this point.

Two of those three teams are aren't even ranked in the top 20 in the NFL in offense. Holding shitty teams who can't score to few points isn't much of an accomplishment. At the end of the day, I still think Pittsburgh will win some games. They DESPERATELY need Polamalu back. When he got hurt, I said they were in a bit of trouble without him in there, and that's proving to be correct. The guy is a MAJOR game changer, and they'll be MUCH better on defense when he gets back in there. At this point, the Steelers are only about the 5th best team in the AFC. We'll see where things shake out as the season progresses.

The good news is they have Cleveland twice, but the bad news is they play Pittsburgh again and Baltimore twice. If they can manage to win 3 of those 5 games they have a shot at 10-6.

Little Tidbit: Kenny Anderson has been the Steelers Quarterbacks coach for the last couple years.

I knew the Bengals were going to be a better team this year than last and be able to win some football games. If anything they, along with Baltimore, was and will be bound and determined to take one from Pittsburgh this year regardless of record. Looking back at yesterday's game, the Steelers shot themselves in the throat worse than I imagined at the time and had an even more severe breakdown int he 4th qrt than last week in Chicago. The Steelers didn't punt until the last Quarter of the game, out gained Cincinnati 260 yards to 90 in the first half, and dominated time of possession throughout the game. I'll give the Bungles credit where credit is due for hanging in there, but this is nothing short of a fluke. Funny how the crowd at Paul Brown sarcastically cheered when gaining yards in the 2nd half, but chanting Who Dey on the way out. Hilarious. That was the 5th win against the Steelers in the last 20 tries dating back to 2000, and first in Paul Brown since forever. The wheels in Bungle town will fall off and will have a Super Bowl hangover the next couple games.

I am royally pissed off losing games like this when we are a better overall god damn team than the teams we face, who we smack around for 4 quarters and play the rule of Super hero and save them from defeat. If the Steelers find a way not to beat themselves, score some fucking points in the son of a bitchin redzone, then watch the hell out come November/December, esp with a healthy Polamalu in the lineup to where we can get back to playing epic defense, rather than this bend but don't break in the final minute, pansy shit.

I played against Garcon during my single year of college football at Wilmington College.

I was on the field against him in my one play of varsity action that year (on kickoff return). He was on the other side of the field from me so I didn't get to (try to) cream him.

Garcon was crazy fast. He was literally the fastest player I've ever played against, I think. It's no wonder he's a pro talent.

I was actually being recruited to play for Mount Union and could've been a teammate of his, but the MU coach was completely open in saying I'd never get playing time and that I was just needed to boost the team GPA. At least he was honest, Wilmington's coach told a bold-faced lie.

I should've went to MU to play. I'd have some title rings and been teammates with Pierre Garcon.

I mean... I really don't see that big of a difference between the style between this year and last year. You guys won a lot on final minute drives and or/stops, including the Big One itself. You guys won quite a few low scoring affairs and/or "crunch time games" last year. That was classic "Winning Ugly" form, as I call it (not that there's anything wrong with that). So far, the execution hasn't been quite there this year. But are they really playing much differently from last year?

Without Polamalu on the field...YES! The guy is that good. Listen, Pittsburgh isn't that great of an offensive team and never have been. The Super Bowls they won in the 70's with Bradshaw were some of the worst offensive teams to win super bowls. People know the names of Bradshaw, Swann, Stallworth, and Harris, but when you look at their numbers, they simply don't come close to comparing with the great offensive players in NFL history. The Steelers teams of the past 10 years really aren't any different. Their running game is a disaster and Roethlisberger is a good NFL QB, but not great. Pittsburgh has ALWAYS won on defense and they always will. I suspect when Polamalu gets back, their defense will tighten up in a HUGE way! That said, Harrison doesn't look like the dominant player he was last season, so I think they'll be a VERY beatable team. After watching the Colts last night, I suspect they'd beat Pittsburgh by about 3 touchdowns!

I agree with all of that, but Polamalu was out last year for a bit and to my memory they still had good success over that period (I could be wrong here, correct me if so anyone). I just don't think that overall, the team is really much different as Travis seemed to indicate above. Just seems the magical end of game drives after the D plays stingy all game is not there this year so far. I don't think we're seeing a team that as a whole looks that much different from the year before, stylistically at least.

James Harrison is the epitome of unblockable. I wouldn't say he is off to a slow start, but when comparing this years sacks to last year, there are obvious concerns, but not judging by the way he plays the position. I watch a lot of players on Defense when the Steelers play, and Harrison is one of them I look at closely. On almost every play, the man is mauled and calling it holding wouldn't serve the term justice. Noone can block him one on one, holding can be called every play, but when it's so blatant then there's a problem. Harrison is a beast in the offseason and works like a gorilla to perform. To deny him his ablility is one thing, but not calling many penalties against him is dis-heartening for a player of his caliber. At least call it at times. Benefiting an offensive lineman of getting away with illegal tactics such as holding and for a defenseman working his ass off every play and not getting at least some calls is not right, and the league already apologized for it. What are you gonna do though.. judgment is judgment.

Another reason is that he's taking on double teams practically all game. This should free up other positions to get a lane to the quarterback, which is happening but they can't finish since every QB we faced so far is getting rid of the ball fairly quickly to the underneath receivers, something that is exploited and needs to be addressed, even though that's what the Steelers want to give up.

You're right, obviously the Steelers defense is a tad bit behind without Troy in the lineup since certain packages are built around him and him alone. The Steelers defense is dominant through 3 quarters, but the 4th quarter they seem to be suspect and back off. They aren't losing because Troy isn't in the lineup. I don't like it and they need to get it fixed before we slump in a 1-3 hole. All 3 games were decided by 3 points in which the Steelers blew. (Jeff Reed has missed in every game we lost.) We are on the doorstep but just can't find a way to put the foot on the gas and finish, thus, 1-2. The Steelers are still a good team that will contend, they just need to find their killer instinct that we owned a year ago.

One of my favorite quotes is.. "It is what is it."

Polamalu started every game last season and started off the season with 7 interceptions in 8 games or so. Not sure of the exact stat off the top of my head, but it's close to that. He was on pace to the start of this year before the injury. Polamalu has been injured before, and we won big games without him in the lineup. The difference between this year and last year thus far is that we are BLOWING 4th quarter LEADS, and this dates back to the Super Bowl. Last year our offense got the job done when need be and the defense carried the first 3 quarters in dominant fashion. If anyone has watched any Steelers games this year, the offense seems to move the ball quite well from the 20 to 20, but once they get in the redzone, a drop here, a missed play here, or a missed field goal is the difference maker of getting the job done and not getting the job done, and we are blowing these leads because of the missed opportunities that should be made, and that's a big difference in a game that's decided by 3 points. Last year, we caught those balls, and made those field goals in come from behind wins. It's now ironic that we are now losing this year while protecting a lead in the 4th. We are settling for 3 in the redzone and that isn't cutting it. I mean come on, our first punt came in the 4th quarter. This is correctable and by no means should panic set in.

The Browns at this point would pop the champagne for just converting a first down, that's how bad it's getting in Cleveland.

I really laughed out loud right there. As much as I hate Cleveland, and now it's to the point where it's hard to, I was watching that game yesterday covering my eyes, but was peeking through my fingers to watch the next play. I kind of felt bad of what the fans have to endure and that's a lot for me to say when it comes to the Browns.

I didn't even watch the game, that's how bad it has gotten. I accidentally turned the game on and saw Derek Anderson in during the 2nd half, and then watched him throw the first of his three picks in two quarters. Turned it off after that and read about the game afterwards. My time on Sundays is too valuable to waste watching that misery. I'd rather watch good football. It was so much better watching the Bengals-Steelers and Cards-Colts (when is watching Peyton not fun?).

I think Kurt Warner's long-running fairy tale might have concluded with that last TD pass to Larry Fitzgerald last February.

Darrell Revis, probably one of the best cornerbacks in the game today who plays for the Jets, played High Shool here in Aluquippa. The Quips are in the same division as my school in PA, and as a Freshman, I played on the kickoff units to where Revis was the kick returner for the Quips. It was amazing watching him then, I think he was a senior or junior my freshman year. But it's always cool to share the same field with a professional athlete!

Some day people are going to realize that I'm right in my assertion that Tony Romo is not NFL starting material. This dude sucks. This is sooooo fun to watch. Anyone that's a Cowboys fan should root for a season-ending injury. This guy is a total shitbum. Fuck, the Eagles have three quarterbacks that are better than him.

I think there are many who would agree with you. He definitely sucks. Speaking of The Eagles, it's truly amazing to me that McNabb catches as much flak as he does and here's a bum like Romo, who by now is a veteran, who doesn't catch a fourth of the flak McNabb has endured throughout most of his great career!

Edit: Although I predict Romo will finally really get the heat this year... he's already caught some serious heat, most recently from Emmitt and Troy

I'm not a big McNabb fan and he went to my high school, but he has been to, what, 4 NFC championship games and 1 Super Bowl? Fuck, Romo has never won one playoff game, and that's not even the bad part (because you could have good games and the defense can piss it away). The bad part is that he single-handedly pissed away a few seasons with his play (or lack thereof) in the post-season. A 1.5 billion dollar stadium and a QB that isn't worth something on the fucking McDonald's value meal. He and his apologists can't blame it on Owens and/or Pacman anymore. Seriously, if you like the Cowboys, root for a broken leg or a torn knee ligament. Otherwise, why even watch? Unless you're a fucking masochist.

LOL, the Cowboys found a way to snatch a field goal from the jaws of a TD on that drive. What a joke

Me you and John have been saying this for so long now and the media STILL finds ways to defend the bum in many ways because of the star on the side of his helmet. Cris Carter finally rose to the occasion and called this second rate Quarterback OVERRATED. Throw stats out of any equation, this league is built off of winning & victories and that's what defines the QB position and Romo hasn't even cracked a win in any playoff game to date, let alone the month of December. What a puke.

Terrible. Dallas should be beating this team by 5 touchdowns, since they are a "potent team." Carolina has major problems and have been step child's of the league so far battling major problems and just plain getting blown out the first weeks of the season. Dallas seems to be gassed from last weeks loss to the Giants. thst crowd of 105,000 has LITTLE to cheer about. They are lucky playing the baby blue's who has concerns.

The Panthers got so bad so quick, it's unreal. They were nowhere near as good as their record last year, but still, damn.

League News: Pennington out for the season for Miami. Torn MCL I believe. A crushing blow to the Dolphin organization. Chad Henne gets his shot at the pros.

Yeah I saw that earlier today. Gotta feel for the Dolphins, they made such huge strides last year and really coulda been sittin at 2-1 this year. Kinda like the Browns 10-6 season followed up by these two seasons
