See, everyone knows all these rumors of the "crazies" and the things dealt with around here, but no one has the details. Only the rumors. Maybe, just maybe, some people who DO have the details, have been burned enough times here "thinking" someone was a friend, but then they were burned in the end. So then it makes everyone a little more cautious and paranoid than the rest of the people out there who don't really care to make friendships here. Some of you NEVER attend a gathering, so it's easy for you to sit back and judge.

Hell, I didn't even know my IP address until I got something in the mail from some company wanting to sell me online security & their brochure told me how to find the information. So how does a member of Melodicrock know MY IP address? This is not a frivolous question. This is something we all should be concerned about.

And that goes back to trust and people realizing that you can never truly trust anyone until you've met them. I mean really, isn't that kind of smart to do anyway? When you know you will be going to events and gatherings with people? To be a LITTLE leary until you've met. Or at least someone you have met and trust has met them? Makes sense to me, especially after being way too trusting when I first arrived here. I learned the hard way. Some don't care to ever meet, and that's fine. Good for them! Sometimes even then. I became friends with someone and I thought she was ok because she knew and was friends with 3 other people who I knew. And she seemed just fine. For awhile. In the end, I caught her knifing me right in the back. And this had nothing to do with "online" friends. This was all real life - she was friends with friends of mine from school. So the online element only adds to the caution I take with people. But it's nothing personal. I just prefer to get to know people. Sometimes you get burned and sometimes you make great friends.

Thus far, I've been fortunate enough around here not to have gotten burned. But I credit that to my steadfast avoidance of drama. I know exactly who I'd prefer to avoid and who I think are good people, but I keep my mouth shut about the former because that just causes drama. Everyone gets a fair shot with me until they give me a reason to have an issue. being a sneaky ass liar/backstabber or being disrespectful to me, or my friends is about the first thing that will get a person booted from my life, hence the above example. being downright crazy and a drama king or queen is another one. Also hence the above example.

I try to avoid drama too.. don't I?? I really don't get too paranoid about people. I do trust until I have a reason not to honestly. But I do put up a little more guard since I've been part of the message board world than I used to. For the most part though, it's all been positive and I can only think of one or two that I have dealt with that were experiences I could have lived without. I mean its a big scary world. You have to be smart. Especially on the internet.
