Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is in limbo at the moment, waiting to see whether Peyton Manning winds up in Denver, and knowing nothing about his future other than that John Elway and John Fox weren’t telling the whole truth when they said Tebow would definitely enter training camp as the Broncos’ starting quarterback.

Given that, it’s unsurprising that the usually congenial Tebow isn’t in the mood to tak to reporters right now.

Tebow is making appearances in Tampa this weekend to raise money for wounded war veterans, and he had said he would speak to reporters. But Nicole Darin, sports anchor at WTSP-TV, reports that Tebow is rattled by Manning’s visit with the Broncos and refused to speak with the media as originally promised.

It’s hard to blame Tebow for that: When he originally planned the media session, he thought it would be an opportunity to raise awareness for wounded troops. He now realizes that at any appearance he makes will raise awareness of the fact that the Broncos aren’t as confident in him as they’ve claimed to be.

So Tebow is going to keep a low profile for now, while he waits and wonders whether he’ll be keeping a low profile next season as the holder of Manning’s clipboard.

Manning's going to AZ tomorrow...so who knows? I retract my comment about Seattle/Miami (unless I turn out to be right. LOL)

Report: Broncos, Cardinals leading the Peyton sweepstakes......

Though the race isn’t over, two teams are at the front of the pack.

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen of ESPN report that the Broncos and the Cardinals currently are regarded as the favorites to land Peyton Manning.

One source told Schefter and Mortensen (simultaneously, possibly), that Peyton is leaning toward Denver.

But the Cardinals apparently have a chance, too. Scheftersen (it’s just easier that way) report that owner Michael Bidwill is “determined” to sign Manning.

So what will decide this one? Manning, per Scheftersen, is looking for a “comfortable football and organizational fit.”

It’s hard not to regard this report as a deliberate message from the Manning camp to the rest of the league that Manning is closing in on a decision, and that anyone else who wants a shot at him had better step it up.

The goal also may be to let Dolphins owner Stephen Ross know that, as Manning prepares to head from Arizona back to Miami, Ross had better bring a bigger checkbook if he wants Manning to feel sufficiently “comfortable.”

From PFT:

Don't rule out surprise team for in Manning Sweepstakes:

Manning has no reason to make any promises of discretion — unless, of course, the team that decides to slide in out of nowhere is a team like the Texans, Ravens, or 49ers, any of whom could give Manning that which he surely covets. The chance to get his hands on the Lombardi Trophy for a second time..

Who knows what Manning is thinking. He is taking a tour at the Cardinals facilities right now with Larry Fitzgerald. How the fuck can you say no to Larry FitzfuckingGerald?

Although Larry Fitzgerald has said publicly that he isn’t involved in the Cardinals’ recruitment of Peyton Manning, Fitzgerald got to team headquarters bright and early this morning for the meeting at which the team will attempt to persuade Manning to relocate to Arizona.

Fitzgerald and the Cardinals’ assistant coaches arrived at team headquarters Sunday morning and were ready and waiting when head coach Ken Whisenhunt pulled up with Manning as his passenger, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.

It makes a lot of sense for the Cardinals to ask Fitzgerald to help recruit Manning: As great as Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne were for years in Indianapolis, Fitzgerald would be the best receiver Manning has ever thrown to. Developing a rapport with Fitzgerald could be just the thing to move the Cardinals ahead of the Broncos in the Manning sweepstakes. At the moment, the Broncos seem to be viewed as slight favorites, with the Cardinals in second place.

One person who reportedly isn’t at the Cardinals’ facilities is Manning’s agent, Tom Condon. That may signal that today’s meeting will be about convincing Manning that the Cardinals are the right fit on the field, and that contractual concerns are secondary. And without a doubt, if Manning is to be convinced that the Cardinals are the right fit on the field, Fitzgerald will be a big part of that.

IF Manning does end up in Denver there is a good chance Tebow will be gone and ironically the team Tebow will most likely end up going to will be the one most people originally thought he would end up with in the first place Jacksonville.

Peyton Manning played his college football at Tennessee. If the owner of the Titans gets his way, that’s where Manning will resume his professional career as well.

Adams told Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean that he wants Manning in Tennessee, and he’s willing to spend what he has to spend to make it happen.

“He is the man I want. Period,” Adams said. “And the people that work for me understand that. They know who I want. I want Mr. Manning with the Titans and I will be disappointed if it doesn’t happen.”

From a business perspective, it’s easy to see why Adams feels that way: Manning remains an enormously popular figure in Tennessee, where he had a brilliant college career, and in a state where the Tennessee Volunteers are huge, the Titans would be able to charge virtually any price they want for season tickets if Manning were their quarterback.

However, Wyatt reports that Titans General Manager Ruston Webster, Chief Operating Officer Mike Reinfeldt and head coach Mike Munchak aren’t on board with Adams’ goal. The Titans’ football people think veteran Matt Hasselbeck and last year’s top pick, Jake Locker, make quarterback a position where the Titans are strong.

So that raises the question: Will the owner get his way? Or will the football people get to shape the direction of the football team? Adams sounds like he knows it’s a long shot that Manning would come on board, but he also sounds like he wants the fans in Tennessee to know he’s doing all he can.

“I hope to be one of the teams he looks at,” Adams said. “Since he went to school in Tennessee I think Tennessee is where he should be. I think he could play for two or three years. I think he’s the guy that could come in and turn this around for us. That’s why I am so anxious to get him to come visit with us and I want him on my team. I could sit down with him and show him what [we’d be willing to pay]. If he would come [meet] with me he would be happy with what he’d get. . . . I want Manning.”

Though there could still be a long way to go before quarterback Peyton Manning picks a new team, the Broncos think they see the finish line.

Vic Lombardi of CBS4 in Denver reports that the Broncos are now “95% confident” that they will land Peyton.

Why so confident?

Vic Lombardi says that the Broncos heard from Manning on Sunday night.

So when does he show the Broncos he can throw?

UPDATE 12:56 a.m. ET: Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports, citing a “Manning source,” that “Manning didn’t call [Broncos] today or tonight & inform they’re 95% fave.” But that’s not what Vic Lombardi reported. He said that Manning called, and that as a result the Broncos are “95% confident” they’ll get Peyton. Did anyone really think Peyton called and said he’s “95% certain” to pick the Broncos?

The Peyton Manning tour was fun while it lasted.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s over.

Appearing on SportsCenter Monday morning, Schefter stated repeatedly that Manning won’t be taking any more free agent visits. Schefter explained that Manning “does not want to make this into a Reggie White tour,” and is already familiar with the Dolphins’ facility because the Colts used it during their two Super Bowl appearances in Miami.

Schefter called the Broncos the “favorites,” while acknowledging that the Cardinals are still “in contention.” The Dolphins seem to have been pushed to the backburner, though, since the South Florida frenzy that left Manning wary of joining Stephen Ross and Jeff Ireland’s team.

The fact that Manning is also done with visits suggests other interested teams like the Titans are not being given serious consideration.

These things can change at any moment, but the Broncos and Cardinals are the clear-cut frontrunners to sign Manning at this point, with Denver possessing a slight edge.

A decision is tentatively expected by Wednesday.

Here's coming from another source in K.C:

Just talked to a reliable source in KC -- the Chiefs aren't out of it either. Productive meetings between KC and Peyton's people.

Quite frankly, Manning is keeping to himself. In one second, Miami is in the lead, the next second it's Denver and Arizona, now he's having productive talks with Kansas City and their officials. Noone knows jack-shit what he's thinking and can only comment on "sources" within camps that are obviously tight lipped over this entire situation.

If he goes to Denver, I will laugh my ABSOLUTE ASS off because Tebowmania was all for nothing. And everyone should laugh their ass off with all those intense debates with Stephan A. Smith (my favorite color commentator) and Skip Bayless (who thinks Tebow is God.) This is the first time Manning has ever been a FA, so I think most of his visits are simply strengthening his value. He probably won't have a decision until late this week or early next.

We'll see what Randy Moss in 2012 is all about. Quite frankly, I think he's about finished in his career and he won't bring TOO much to the table. Now, he has a chance to help grow a quarterback coming off of a good year who in years past was an afterthought, so we'll see if Moss's patience will match his abilities because it's damn well possible that the 9'ers could of overachieved last season or if Manning and Wayne sign on with the Cardinals.

Interesting signing, but everyone knows Harbaugh and the 9'ers identity is more geared towards the interior and the ground game that plays off the coattails of that fierce defense. Not sold at ALL on Moss.

As a 9er fan, I doubt he'll make much impact, but in the grand scheme of things it's probably a cheap gamble for a team that needed to improve at WR.

Dolphins trade Brandon Marshall to Chicago for 2 3rd-round draft picks. Ironic that this trade has happened with all of this Manning market going on. I thought I read somewhere that Manning didn't want to work with Brandon Marshall because of his cocky and punk-ass reputation and laziness. Maybe this is a sign Miami is going to snag Peyton?

The New England Patriots are reportedly close to reeling in one of the best free agents on the market.

The Boston Globe reports that Brandon Lloyd, a free agent receiver who has been linked to New England for weeks, is close to coming to a contract agreement with the Patriots.

Lloyd has a great relationship with new Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. His best NFL season, by far, came playing for McDaniels in Denver in 2010, when he caught 77 passes for 1,448 yards and 11 touchdowns. Lloyd has made clear that he’d love to play for McDaniels again, even hinting that he’d take less money to play for the Patriots.

With a 15.4 yards-per-catch average in his career, Lloyd would provide the Patriots’ passing game with the deep threat they’d like to add — the deep threat they thought, wrongly, that Chad Ochocinco might be last season. If the Patriots can get this deal from “close” to “done,” one of the best passing games in the NFL will be even better.
