I remember a bit of discussion over this story out of Texas back in '07. Husband shoots and kills fleeing man that wife claimed raped her. Turns out the wife was having an affair with this guy and made the rape claim after the husband almost caught them in the act. The wife was charged with the crime in this case.

Really hating how hyper sensitive things are now in the schools. My middle schooler could not bring a backpack today, because they worried about rumor threats dumb kids make. Then, there is a robbery of a man in a part of town where this happens now and then on payday, in that part of town and the victim was shot at and the suspects fled by car. I hate to say this, but its a plaza with a store that cashes checks for illegal mexicans, and young black men come from the next town over, and rob them on payday. Easy victim, because what illegal will file a police report?? This happens too often.

Anyway, the school is a good 3 miles from there, but they locked it down. It's not typical for lock downs when something happens so far away.

What I hate is my middle schooler texting me to ask if we're ok. She heard someone was shot and killed, and they were in red lock down, and she was scared. She was afraid we were hurt and she was scared for herself. She's 13. Rumors fly around schools because of cell phones now, and she only got half the story. The guy wasn't hit when shot at. It's just all so SAD to me that my kids can't concentrate on school because of the heightened level of insanity right now with the schools, media, and people in general. My husband is a cop, so he was able to find out exactly what was happening so we could reassure her. It really sucks.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A northwest Harris County homeowner fought back against two burglars Tuesday night and ended up shooting one of them.

It all happened at a home on Morgensen Drive at Zada Park Lane sometime before 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said a homeowner came home and noticed an upstairs light was on that wasn’t supposed to be. He went back to his car, got his gun, and headed back to the house.

Deputies said as he was heading inside, the thieves were on the way out with stolen property. That’s when the men tried to take off. One managed to get away, but the other ended up in a scuffle and then was shot by the homeowner.

The injured man sped off in a car but turned himself in to authorities at a gas station on Veterans Memorial and W Mount Houston. He was sent to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigators said the wounded suspect didn’t make it far because his older model Lincoln Town car, complete with Houston Texans window flags, had two flat tires. A description of the other suspect involved in the burglary was not available.

Deputies said the homeowner carries a concealed handgun license.
Im NOT taking Sushi's side, trust me! But this might not be the best example. It's the one caught in the "scuffle" who got shot. Scuffle could mean his life felt threatened?

The homeowner took his weapon from his car with the intent of confronting the robbers lethally in his house, if necessary... he knew he was in the right legally to use lethal force. That is all he needed. The robbers attempting to flee (according to the Texas law) does not negate his right to use lethal force, on the one fleeing or the one fighting.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Only a small percentage of stolen property is ever returned to the owner. Although the price of aluminum has skyrocketed, it's still cheaper to shoot someone than let them get away with things you saw fit to get a job and buy. That's the rub. You work hard for what you have and some dickbrain thinks they can just take it from you? Fuck him. I say ventilate his ass.

Yeah, I hate it when I go outside and see those fuckers digging through my bins on recycle day. Their stealing, shoot them too!

I've heard that once you put trash out to the curb, it's public domain. Not sure if that's true or not, but your reply was funny.

He has a right to have the gun out while he confronts them though. When he can use the gun is the debate. If he approaches with the gun, and they fight him, he can shoot and try to kill in a lot of states. That would be totally justified. Trying to shoot someone running in the back isn't the same as shooting someone in a scuffle.

About 3 days ago, they put Birdville Elementary on lock down because a car backfired. I can understand because that and a gun shot do sound a lot a like sometimes. I was at work and wasn't watching the tv when the report came across, so I only heard Birdville and lock down. Neelee goes to Birdville high school, so my ass was out of the chair getting ready to head down the road when someone told me it was the elementary school and that it was just a car backfiring. My heart about fell out of my chest in that instant though.

Yeah the hype is getting a little out of hand I'd say. I thought the articles about parents buying bullet proof backpacks for their kids was too much too.

In Cali there are schools with metal detectors and I'm sure they have some type of security there to make sure that if it goes off, they check the kid.

Correct... but in the commission of the robbery one robber fled while the other charged the homeowner, so his choice was obvious.

But the one fleeing could have also stolen something (like jewelry) and hid it in his pocket. Had the owner shot the one fleeing also, the Texas Penal code (which makes it legal to use lethal force in protecting ones property from robbery) would make that a legal shoot, and the courts would error on the homeowners side, not the criminals.

It's really awful! I feel so bad our kids are living in such fear right now. There is innocence lost in all this, and I just find it sad. I mean I'm glad the schools are taking precautions, but I don't want to see our kids live in such fear, with no sense of security either. Her text messages to me were so full of fear it made me sad. And the schools lock down periodically for things. They always have. But kids didn't worry about it until the Sandy Hook thing. They placed officers at ALL of the elementary schools in our city today. So when the officers wanting to leave their post to try to catch these guys, they were told to stay at the schools. I mean other officers obviously were on it, but really? These officers sit at the schools, doing nothing, while crime happens around them? I'm not sure that's good either. I see a lot of knee jerking going on.

Where I live in Cali, they consider it theft when someone takes out the recycling from your bins, they have it stamped right on the bins that taking it out is theft. I'm sure they say this because it costs so much money for the local government to run that program but if everyone takes it from the bins and cashes in on it themselves, the local government loses money running the program. That still won't stop people from digging through it though. They do it on big scale too. Sometimes you'll see a truck with a few guys going down the street dumping everyone's bins it in the back of the truck in the middle of the night. Just 20 pounds of aluminum cans can bring in a decent amount.

I hate it that our kids have to live afraid. That's no way to live. Yes, there is a lot of knee jerking going on. Hopefully, all this will settle down before too awful long. But there is still a lot of information to be disclosed, and until they get it all sorted out, I'm sure we're going to keep seeing it on the news.

I think we lost around 20 kids when they blew up the federal building in Oklahoma City. That, to me, was the saddest part of the whole ordeal, and this one in Connecticut is even sadder because of the way it was carried out. The explosion of the federal building was instant, the kids in Connecticut had to see it happening. The thing that they really need to work on, and I know they are, is the surviving kids that had to witness it. That will have to have an effect on them.

I can see that being illegal. It's fairly industrious and enterprising of them though. They're at least working for it. There were reports of people getting their outside a/c units stolen off of their homes. They were taking them and stripping the copper out of them and selling it.

yeah, I kind of feel if they want to sort through my nasty trash to find a treasure.....have at it!

Now stealing things off of a house is a whole different thing. That copper wire theft thing is a real problem.

StevePerryHair wrote:Really hating how hyper sensitive things are now in the schools.

Sorry things are so bad. We did not dwell on it but had a meeting about it. We already have drills in place for lock down situations because of the proximity of the Jonesboro shootings. The children did not say much so we did not bring it up or dwell on it. I tried to make this week as pleasant as possible and we made ornaments. I am sure once one school in a district goes in lockdown we all do. Sad fact of life. There is no safe world anymore. Guns or no guns. We just have to hope for the best and do the best we can.

The statistics doesn't lie. More guns = more gun fatalities. All the second amendment yammering doesn't mean much, when people die needlessly. Not to mention the harm caused by the American gun manufacturing and the subsequent export to Mexico.

What would Jesus do?

So you are selfless for example, are you sure about that ?
Selfless means no self, self-less, yet You claim to CHOOSE to follow the teachings of Jesus just who is that one that SELF that claims this, while other so called selves according to you choose not to follow this teaching. Only a self can make the assertion. Please explain.

The way I look at it is the way people react when weather reports call for snow storms. What does the public do? They make mad dashes to the food stores and wipe the bread and milk shelves clean. Stock up like they will be snowed in for weeks even when the weather reports are not even close to that type of event. For some reason people panic and over react to rumors or reports.

I guess that is the reality of KNEE JERK. People tend to be reactionary and our politicitians and the media make it far worse than it needs to be. OVERPRESCRIBED in the worst sense. Think about it. How many bullets do you really need in your house in the event of a home invasion? I say if you can't bring the attacker down in the first few rounds, 990 more probably isn't gonna save you either. Infact, if you fire that many, you'll probably have the house come down around you.

The media by far prompts these knee jerk, panic type of reactions by the public. The politicians know this all too well and use it as a tool to promote their agenda(s). The media over dramatizes so many things for the sake of grabbing ratings. Personally, I think a citizen should be allowed to purchase as much ammo as he\she wants to based on what is legal. That being said, they should also be held responsible for how they use it and in doing so if they break the law then they should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. It is my belief that the there are far more responsible gun owners in the U.S. then irresponsible and wackos that cause events like this to happen. The reality is that no amount of gun regulation is going to stop all events like this from happening. This is just the dark side of humanity and unfortunately at times it rears it's ugly head.

Revolver, pump, bolt action or semi-auto... they all only fire one round at a time... and most shooters only use one finger to shoot..

So the argument that "more ammo" makes a shooter "more dangerous" is ludicrous.

Now if one wants to talk sense... the magazine capacity should be the topic.

Maybe to much of the carnage of these tragedies are hidden from public view.
What would be the reaction if instead of seeing the smiling happy pictures
of these precious children, the results of this Evil act were shown as horrible as it is?

would there be a sense of urgency work together to help prevent such Evil as much as possible?

Read this on Facebook, and after a little checking, the 12,000 number is on the money. I didn't check the 2 million number, but I'd bet it's close too.

12,000 people a year are killed by means of a fire arm.

2 million people per year defend themselves from perpetrators.

Jesus, the perfect example of Being one with God, ( John 10 : 30. I and the Father are ONE. )
In this one-ness there is no personal self, no follower, no saint nor sinner, no should, no fault, and no others. What a load off. That IS the Perfection.

Jesus was radical while being radically simple.
How do we achieve this one-ness ? it cannot be achieved taught or learned ( that requires a self ) because it is already the Fact, here and now, not in the past not in the future.... NOW.

Of course the "follower" will disagree but that is really because of their belief and even faith in a separate self and a separate God.

You can't make the horse drink because its not thirsty, simple lol :D

I think this tragedy is hitting me a little later than most. I have 9 kids in the house and purposely kept the news off and have been avoiding anything with the kids' pictures - for my own self. But I went to the elementary school yesterday for my niece's DARE graduation where they brought up the event and then as I was leaving, I passed by the Kindergarten class. I looked in and saw all those little faces and it just hit me.

I think we as a country put too much emphasis on what the President will do, or Congress. I really think the answer lies in the school boards and other local institutions. Obviously, a lot lies in parenting and such. As upset as I am and as much as I think no one needs to own an assault rifle, I can't find anything in the gun laws that would prevent this and still keep the majority safe. This exact event could happen with just one handgun. I know that the farther society falls, I want to protect my family.

I really hope the focus is on the real issues, including updating the gun laws.

Our high school has two armed patrol personnel and has for years. It may not stop an event from starting, but it will end much faster then Newtown ended. Other schools here are wide open. Yea - the elementary school posted two older ladies to greet people and make us sign in, but all I could think was they'd be the first two shot.

Anyway - I pray for the families of those kids. And for all the families losing kids tonight and any other night.

If you aren't firing at LEAST 1,000 rounds a year practicing with your home defense weapon at a firing range, you're a threat to your neighbors and family members and have no business owning a weapon for home defense. I can't stand morons who buy one 20-50 round box of ammunition for their new home defense weapon, take it to the range and shoot maybe 10 rounds, and think they're safely ready for a home defense scenario. Fuck them, they're a disgrace to the gun community. You better be buying ammunition by the case if you're serious about owning a gun and using it safely & responsibly.
