But if I consumed the same amount of keystone light, red dog or budweiser.....I'd be throwing up the volume-equivalent of my CD collection the very next morning.

It's just not worth it.

A 12 pack of good beer will run you 15 bucks. So, a cheap brew will run you half that. Is saving 7 bucks on a friday night bender worth it, if you're going to spend all day saturday horking it back up?

Well said. I agree 100% . If youre too cheap to buy a good beer, youre too cheap to live .

Look, I'm a big microbrew fan and I always have a 6 pack of something good in the fridge. I drink good beer 98% of the time. That said, sometimes I WANT to get fucked up beyond belief and laugh at the 30 empty cans in my trash the next morning before I shit it all out. That's when I pound the Miller or Red Dog.

Frank's right, if you pound a 12 pack of good brew, you can start off with a nice liquor chaser and get lathered up nice and good. But you know, sometimes, on a 95 degree summer night or when I want to continuously drink all day for football games, drinking a hoppy heavy beer just doesn't sound that good to me. In fact, it ain't even feasible if I'm drinking all day for games or something. A cold lighter beer is necessary sometimes for my purposes.

Bud Light is the worst, I'd rather drink Stone or Natty. Coors ain't far behind.

I don't drink beer all that often but when I do, light beer is absolutely out. That said, I do like most of the Samuel Adams brews, Blue Moon, and most of the micro-brews I've tried.

I don't care for Becks all that much and I especially despise Guinness...It looks like tar.

Only with the first 4 or 5 pints, then it looks fine.

I've never had more than 2 or 3 beers in a day so I'd probably be willing to drink sewer if I'd had that much alcohol. :-D

Meh, life's too short to drink bad beer.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

I used to be in love with Sam Adams of all kinds, but as I've expanded my beer palate, I've noticed that they overdo the hops way too much on most of the beers. It's like the difference between needing steak sauce for a middle of the road steakhouse that's priced a little too high and not needing anything but a knife and fork at a great steakhouse - subtlety and a great base go a long way.

I only drink Sam Adams White Ale and Winter Lager nowadays when they are in season (spring and winter respectively)

Ehwmatt wrote:In celebration of the imminent NFL season, what is your favorite cheap, shitty beer? Mine is undoubtedly Red Dog. Originally made to be a banquet beer for Miller's product line, it turned out to not be so banquet in consumers' eyes. Nonetheless, it's a lager with some body, which distinguishes it taste wise and gives it some real flavor compared to PBR, Busch, and even Miller Lite and Coors Light. More importantly, at 5% a can/bottle, it'll fuck you up faster. Even more important, a case of 24 bottles or 30 aluminum cans can be found for $12.25-12.75 depending on where you are. Finally, it has one of the coolest beer mascots of all time. Nothing gets me drunk quicker on game day than some good ol' Red Dog.

Red Dog's got my vote!

Red Dog didn't even get me drunk after half a case split with my buddy, and still made me vomit!!! Plus, it's related to Budweiser, quite closely I might add, and that most definitely drags it down even further.

My "favorite cheap, shitty beer" vote would definitely go to Keystone Ice. 5.9%, bitches!!!

But favorite cheap beer all around for me is Knights Head... $7.99 for a case of 24 bottles and the taste is astounding. Definitely in the league of $20 + beers. It's a shame it's extraordinarily rare.

www.knightsheadbrewing.com

Yes, I recommend it that much, ESPECIALLY their Belgian White style ale. It can not be beaten for that price!!!

That's actually sorta pricey considering what it is. I think it's the Michelob name. Should be no more than $5 a case for what it offers, seeing that it pretty much tastes like 1/4 can of coors light mixed with water. No, actually I'd go as far as to say it tastes like carbonated liquid cardboard. Pure blandness. I'd rather have something that tastes awful and gets the drunkenness going real quick. Something amazing. Something like Steel Reserve!!!

Absolutely awful in taste (definitely had worse, and for my money still tastes better than Budweiser, my arch beer-nemesis), but strangely has character. Leaves a fuzzy warmness in the stomach going down. Very sentimental towards this one. When you don't have time to tailgate before a concert, this is a great go-to chuggin' beverage. Does the job ASTOUNDINGLY quickly, and one 24 oz. can is usually just enough to avoid the high prices of venue alcohol.

Best supermarket-bought beer is Miller Light - popping the cap of one right now - AHHHH that's good. Drank a few beer brands in the past, but never much cared for the ones I tried before ML.

To my circle friends this beer used to be known as the "beer shits" beer. We have recently welcomed it back into our circle, and happy to report it no longer holds that title.

When your budget is tight, Ice beats Light!!!

Beer definitely becomes more honest when you get into the "Ice" category. Purely made to get you drunk as quickly as possible... perhaps the only thing more blatant than that is malt liquor 40's.
