Today's primetime shows leave MUCH to be desired. I'm not a huge fan of forced comedy. And alas, 99% of today's sitcoms are of that ilk. 2 1/2 men is as banal as it gets for a sitcom. I like Big Bang Theory, well at least the frist 2 seasons....it is slowly becoming forced humor.

Even 'serious' shows like 24, and Lost are garbage....two shows that are basically fan driven. Writers had/have no direction, and no idea of the story arcs/plots for these shows....stream of consciousness is how they write - and that makes for a lousy TV show.

If you are a fan of these shows, I'm truly sorry. I feel for you. You cannot get the time back that you've wasted on these banal shows.

It's ok... but Big Bang Theory, which is on right after, it really rocks - by far the funniest thing on TV since Cheers IMO!

Same here. I barely watch network TV anymore. I watch Food Network or TLC and things like that. If I want sitcoms, I watch TV Land.
Thats what I was gonna say, I used to watch TV land mercelessly. I barely knew what was on the rest of the channels. But there are some other good channels out there that run hysterical sitcoms, Lifetime being one of them. They have Frazier, Reba, and sometimes Seinfeld. Now those are some funny sitcoms. Totally entertaining.

The funniest show I've ever seen in my life is the "All In the Family" when Edith was going through menopause. I still split a gut when I watch that. I have it on DVD....Season two. And the one where Maude visits runs a close second.

Edith's menopause episode is CLASSIC TV. I love when Archie looks at his watch and tells her that she has 30 seconds to "change". Funny shit.

Nothing comes close to the big belly shakes WKRP gave me but Two And A Half Men is
as good as it gets from what's offered up now for me.

Oh my god, I love almost every show you all are talking about! But, my classics to name a few Variety: Carol Burnett, Sonny & Cher, Donny & Marie (but CB was my ultimate fav). Sitcoms: I LOVE LUCY rules!!!! Then of course WKRP (loved Herb Tarlek, Les Nessman & Mr. Carlson), Married with Children, Sanford & Son, Cheers, Taxi, Frazier, too ...good lord so many!!!

One of my favorite lines and there are many from many shows...
WKRP: "As God is my witness I thought turkeys could fly."   :snort: funny, funny shit!

That's the most classic line in the whole episode. And it's not the line, it's the way he delivers it.

If you're referring to "King Of Queens", I couldn't disagree more. That was one of the funniest shows put on tv in the past 20 years and anyone who has been married for more than 20 minutes can probably relate to a lot of the interaction between the husband and wife on that show! Hell, I'm convinced the show was written about my marriage

tammy wrote: I practically scream at the t.v. every time I hear them say they want granite counter tops!!! I hate granite! Why would anyone want gravestone material in their kitchens & baths?! - yeah, I'm a little sensitive since I've been out looking at houses and that is all I see...I don't care if it is easy to clean - it's ugly.)

I can tell you that you are definitely in the minority in that category. I've worked in the real estate/mortgage profession for the past 10 years and you can't sell certain houses in a certain price range without granite countertops! Luckily for you, if you really loathe granite that much, downgrading to a lesser material is significantly less expensive than having to tear out laminate countertops and put granite in!

I like being in the minority...I don't follow trends or what the latest "fad" is. Renovations with granite & marble excess in 50s-60s ranch type family homes looks ridiculously out of place. Yeah, I'm not a fan of new homes either, esp. with all that wasted space with high tunnel/box-like ceilings. I'd be one of those rarities that would buy a quaint cottage in the country over a mansion if I won the lottery.

As for that t.v. show...I've been married for nearly 20 yrs but I didn't connect with it. I did love "Mad about You" with Helen Hunt and we could relate a lot with that one...eerily so. I would've re-titled it "Are you mad at me?" 'tho.

Carol Burnett was the best...watched it every Sat. back then. Here's that classic "went with the wind": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aRMZ4ePmMM

Love The Mentalist! (and Simon Baker, of course  ) I like Medium but the husband and kids annoy me for some reason. I'm addicted to Vampire Diaries.

Sitcoms? Two and a Half Men used to be a favorite but I don't like it so much since the kid grew up - although recent episodes have been better. The Big Bang Theory is great, and someone's comments about King of Queens? - so true. Pretty much mirrors my marriage (except my husband is not overweight - but he's a lovable liar and I'm a clothes-loving bitch  )

Amen to that. I wish my kids could experience a classic like that.

What are they going to look back on...Hannah Montana, the kids in the hotel or cruise...what ever their names are? My older kids watch shows that 9/10s of the words are bleeped out. Sick sick shows. Still can't figure out why they watch them.

'The Mentalist' is a favourite too, but I think most of that is Simon Baker! I don't have USA Network, so I have to wait for the DVDs of 'Monk' to come out before I can watch the season and then I have a marathon. Pretty soon though, I'll be down to M.A.S.H. and 'Golden Girls' reruns if they don't start putting better shows on the air. 'Two and a Half Men' used to be a favourite too, but they are making Alan such an ass that it isn't as funny anymore.

Great point about your children. I have a three year old and hadn't even thought of that angle. The amazing thing about "All In The Family" is that it wasn't just some "funny show". Whether you were a fan of the show or not, it's absolutely the most ground-breaking show ever put on TV. Hell, Archie Bunker's chair is in the Smithsonian, and when Carroll O'Connor passed away, it was the lead story on every newscast I watched. Great, great show that offended EVERYONE on the planet! Isn't it ironic that 40 years after "All In The Family" came onto the air that we could NEVER EVER EVER allow a show like it to be put on TV in today's oversensitive, politically correct, sanitized world that we have all created? It's almost kind of sad that we were more progressive in our thinking that many years ago!
