Katie's mom (my friend) seems to think that she may have left on her own. The scary thing is that Katie left everything behind, her car, cell phone, purse etc. which would lead one to believe she was under great mental and/or emotional stress. It's November in Wisconsin and while we've been enjoying relatively warm weather for the upper midwest, it still get's cold at night. This is a small community surrounded by farm fields and forest. She could be anywhere!
Police are still searching with dogs and they brought in a plane with an infrared device that can spot heat signatures in wooded areas but nothing so far.

What I do know is this, Katie called her aunt from a coffee shop in Glenview IL and her uncle called the Mukwonago police who called the Glenview police. When they confronted her at the coffee shop she began to complain of stomach pains so they took her to the hospital. I know if I was confronted by police and told of all the trouble I had caused, bloodhounds police searches, appeals on television, I would be sick to my stomach too!
That's where my friends located her and brought her home. She's now staying with her brother. She first said she walked and ran the whole way and I told my husband that there is no way she got that far on foot. She admitted today to her stepfather that she hitchhiked.
She is obviously a person who isn't thinking clearly and needs psychiatric help. But she has to agree to to get that help. Unfortunately , this will probably keep her from getting custody of her kids when the divorce goes through. maybe that was her motivation all along who knows.
I'm just grateful she's unharmed and my friends have piece of mind. Somehow I think they're going to have their hands full for some time to come. This is a good family and it hurts me to seem them going through all this.
