I'm still here. Just trying to get through Assassin's Creed II....finding feathers, Codex pages, God Statues, and Assassin Tombs is hard work.....

Just doing all he can to PROVE his manhood   It's okay, I think it takes a real man to cry when the mood hits him

It is 100% manly to shed a tear at the end of Gran Torino

You're right. I never said it's not manly to cry. But a sissy film is different than a Clint Eastwood movie where he dies.

How do you know that my sister's keeper is a sissy film?? I haven't seen it and probably won't because I don't like to cry in movies. Real life is drama enough for me :P And so guys can cry when other guys die, but that's it?That's not gay at All, you're right

there you go being a dumbass again :)
we weren't talking about gay or not. We were talking about less manly. ;)
having tears watching Clint Eastwood , one of the best actors of all time , die , is not gay or less manly. It's connection with not just the character , but the guy we have loved for decades reaching the end. Watching him giving his best , thinking this could be his last movie ever. The way he builds up the character to the point where all your hatred towards the old man turns into love.
Other sissy shit don't make me cry regardless of the story. It's cause the acting is normally too poor for me to get into the story. It makes me sad , but then the poor acting reminds me it's just a show , hence no tears.

That's one of the reasons I didn't cry when the cartoonist stopped drawing the deer when Bambis mom died

Now go watch sisterhood of poopypants :)

Takes one to know one :P

And to me less manly = in touch with female side= gay, sorry

(and psstt... Clint didn't REALLY die, it was just a movie  )

And I'm pretty sure I said I don't watch sappy chick flicks often because life is full of enough drama. I don't go to a movie to be brought down. I want to be entertained. I am more of an Elf, Old School, The Hangover, Wedding Crashers, etc etc kind of girl :P Not too many reasons to cry in those movies unless I laugh so hard I have tears

So you decided to remain in that dumbass state of mind. ;). I know Clint didn't die. But watching him die in the movie with that strong of actng skills makes one face the bitter part of the fact that he could die any day in real life.

And less manly doesn't mean gay. There is a huge difference between gay people and sissy feminine guys.

But aren't you one of the ones that said that we shouldnt' be sad over some actor dying in another thread? I mean it's not like you KNOW him :P

And you didn't make any of the gay vs. sissy stuff very clear. When you showed pics of running mascara, seemed to me you were saying "gay" :P

And I don't cry in cartoons either. UP did not make me cry and I know women who did. The ONLY cartoon I EVER cried in was the Lion King because I saw it a month after my dad passed away and when simba's dad died I lost it :(

I'll just be glad when Christmas is over & I can once again read a post written by StevePerryHair without needing to run for the Dramamine. Image I don't get the spins this much when I'm drunk off my ass.

..... & why does "crying" always equate to "gay" in straight people world?

Because straight men THINK they have to hide their emotions. They spend their whole lives tucking them away and trying to be "manly" to impress all the other straight guys in "fear" someone will think they are gay

And sorry I put you to sleep. Maybe just skip my posts if they bore you :P

Guess you have to be a "guy" to get it because I just don't get that "attraction" to Clint and his acting. It's sad when ANYONE dies but it doesn't mean I'll mourn their death just because I have a moment where I say "wow, sad".

And yes I AM a dumb ass because I just got what Jason was saying about dramamine  He means my av  Sorry Jason, I am slow, just ask B, he'll tell you.

Sweetie, Dramamine isn't a sleep aid. It's for dizzy spells. Your avatar is giving me the spins. The rest of your post I agree with. If straight men weren't so hung up on looking manly they'd realize that women like when men show emotion..... it could mean bonus points for them!

I know read above

And I don't have a problem with men showing a little emotion. Too much of it no, but in appropriate moments, yes. So much pressure for guys. Must be tough

Well that's where the "appropriate times" come from. My husband had tears when his children were born... appropriate, yes. If he had tears in let's say the movie "ghost" as an example, don't know why that popped in my head, I'd KNOW it was an act  Sincere tears are okay with me. I do buy them. It's pretty easy to see the difference though. Men just THINK they are smart

Okay, now I'm the one that's slow b/c I don't understand what you mean, BJG. If you were a guy, I would interpret your comment to mean that as a guy you used to buy into the notion that women like men who show emotion but that you no longer feel that way b/c it somehow backfired on you.

But since you're a woman, I'm clueless as to what you mean. :? I'm going to guess that you don't like emotional men. If that's a correct assumption, then maybe I need to clarify myself. When I say "emotional" I don't mean "drama queen." I just mean normal human emotions.... like crying over someone's death or perceived death, like during a sad movie. I'm not referring to over-the-top drama queen emotions.

And if you disagree with me on this, then I will throw myself down onto the ground & beat my fist into the pavement & hold my breath until I'm blue & then I will pick myself up off the pavement & stomp over there to where you're at & I will hit you with my purse & stomp off in a huff!

Best post of the year. I was in my glory for 2 hours. That's a man that I want to hang out with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Def a tear of bad ass streamed down my face.

As far as this movie, I'll check it out. My girl loves these movies and I could add to my already 5 million brownie points. I must say though, I'm attached to my dog and watching Marley and Me got me a little shook up, almost to shed a tear. This guy, hard looking BIKER dude in front of us was bawling that movie.

Kind of. What I meant was you get one version of a guy at the beginning, they want to be all sweet and show you what a good guy they are... how they care and get all emotional over you... they know it wins points... and it doesn't last.

The same person who cried his big baby eyes out - literally ON me - because his ex was such an epic horror, and was so appreciative that I was the polar opposite... is the same one who turned into a cold hearted asshole on me. I guess I wasn't *that* great.

You will really like it. Very sweet, really funny in places, and they don't go into a cheesy overkill for the sad part. A movie really about marriage and its struggles and family more than just about the dog. Handled very nicely with Marley's death. Owen Wilson is fantastic in this movie. And it's really tender plot line with his relationship with the dog.. We had tweens at the movie with us and they really liked it. I think the adults were more sad and affected.

See, I'm a big sap for sad movies, especially the romantic kind, because I just don't believe, in real life, lol, that there are men on this planet who actually have hearts like that  My husband is great, but I'm talking like the Serendipity-John-Cusack-type-break-your-heart-romantic... there's no such thing! So that's why I'm a sucker for those movies, lol.

I don't get the stereo type of all men being like Hitler and out to screw over as many women as possible. I've seen a lot of my buddies treat women like complete trash and always was the one to try to talk to them when they had a nice girl. Yes, most men use woman for mid night snacks and head out, but I must say that there are TONS AND TONS of women who use men as boy toys and completely mess with the heads of all good guys out there. All of this wishful thinking, women ending movies works both ways as well and there are good dudes out there that would do anything for a woman, and that includes trying to live up to sappy like ending to Hollywood movies. Most frat, egotistical men are assholes, but I think the scale tips more over to the women side of being stuck up, money grubbing teases who are only out to embarrass a dude and wipe him of his man hood.

So I guess it goes both ways but all the women on here weeping and all of that, dudes are in the same position and think that way as well. 8)

You're right. And to those men, kudos. When you talk about your little lady, you sound like one of those guys - so kudos to you. I just don't know how women (and men, I suppose I can't exclude the truly good guys) are suppose to buy the routine when one minute you hear all these wonderful sappy movie sounding things and the next minute you're sitting there wondering what you did to make it go away and why they're so cold. Because it's an act. John Cusack standing there holding up his stupid boom box has ruined it for a lot of you guys. He let us ladies believe that that can happen and when it doesn't, we get pissed.  (kidding)

You're right. I haven't looked into it, but I'm pretty sure most of those movies are written by wishful-thinking women.

Have you ever seen The War of The Roses?!?!...that's pretty realisitc!!!

Now thats a great movie! I did watch that 2 days ago and I DID cry (from laughing so hard during some parts like the dish in the oven)

Wasn't it though...this is what happens in a marriage immediately following

Wow, I guess I'm outta the loop! I've never seen Serendipity, Marley & Me, War Of The Roses or My Sister's Keeper. I cried at the end of Field Of Dreams, though, & still do after all these years b/c of the relationship between me & my dad. I'd plow up my own backyard & build a damn baseball diamond myself if I thought it would bring us together. Problem is, my dad likes football so I guess I'll be building a football field instead. Forrest Gump is another tearjerker for me.
