official Winter Olympics 2010 topic!

I think winter olympics kick butt over the summer olympics. I look foward to ice skating but also the hockey games mostly, but there are several other things that can be fun to watch. Cross country skiing and curling would NOT be two of them

During the '02 olympics, I had never seen curling and wanted to know what it looked like to play... but no one cares so they air that one in the middle of the night, and I swear, I stayed up to see it. And I swear... don't do that. *yawwwwwnnn* What in heck kind of sport is that? Sweeping the ice with a push broom so some round flat thing can travel reeeeeeallllly slowwwwly across an ice rink? Get bent, I want skates and pucks and action, man.

I remember trying to watch curling once when I was younger. I mean it's cool that it's a tradition thing or whatever. But definitely a snoozer I'm glad you posted this stuff because now it will get me to remember to start watching and reading up on it a little so I can plan a little what will be the best parts to watch.

I have loved the Winter Olympics for ages...um, I'm pretty sure I watched Peggy Fleming in the '60s and watched Dorothy Hamill win (they used to have to do the boring figure 8 & circles back then). Haven't been keeping up with figure skating for a couple years 'tho so don't know who anyone is anymore.

The best Winter Olympics: 1980 - the "miracle on ice" when the the underdog US hockey team beat the Soviet Union to win the gold...still remember watching it on my little black & white t.v. - very exciting & every time I hear Chuck Magione I think of that time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LICNR1GIp4o

I would watch everything...figure skating, downhill skiing, ski jump, speed skating (remember when Dan Jansen finally won a medal after all those years, even 'tho he was a World record holder he never could get that medal and then finally he got it in his 3rd and last Olympics and last race ever...even after slipping a bit in the race he broke a record...that was great!)

Tomba... or however you spell the guys name... he was classic!! the luge stuff is freaky!! But fun to watch as is bobsled and the speed skating is killer...

Yep, curling and golf......two of the most boring sports to watch. Love the hockey during the Olympics and got into watching the bobsled when my cousin (Nathan) made it to the olympics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Cunningham

99% of people get this wrong.....U.S. beat FINLAND to win the gold. Soviets beat SWEDEN for the silver. U.S. beat Soviets for chance to play for the gold.

I love the Olympics! My favorite part (winter or summer games) is the Parade of Nations at the opening ceremony. The best part of the Winter Games is seeing the (usually) one entrant from Bermuda marching out there - no matter how cold - in a sports coat, bermuda shorts, knee socks and loafers. THAT alone is worth the price of admission.

I love rooting for the underdog. I'm still waiting for the Jamaican bobsled team to break through. Maybe this will be the year when someone from some little-known equatorial region that doesn't even have snow finally does it. Even if they don't, I love to see people try - how very refreshing for athletes in this day and age.

Reviving this thread 'cause it's getting closer - and the torch came through our town today . Despite my feelings about some of the 'mishandling' going on in our province regarding hosting the games, it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement. It was a beautiful sunny day, lots of local support, I got lots of good pics and video - the Olympic experience is great and brought back lots of memories from when I experienced it first hand in Calgary in '88. Go Canada!!!

I love that emoticon! It came through ours last night and I know two of the runners quite well. We were all out there cheering and waving little flags - it was nice to feel like a part of the Winter Olympics, because ever since Vancouver won the competition to host them, we have heard about almost nothing else on the BCTV news!! I was in Calgary in '88 for one day of the Olympics to watch a hockey game (Canada vs Switzerland from the nosebleed section ) and it was magical. I won't get to Vancouver, but I hope it is a wonderful experience for everyone!

I can't see the point in watching a sport and then not following it for another 3 years and 50 weeks.

The only olympic sports summer or winter I ever watch are ice hockey and cycling - because I follow them outside the Olympics.

Trevor Linden could run for Provincial head and win couldn't he? He is loved by BC folks. I met him and admired the guy so much, I named my son after him.
