I'd rather see that, even though it's a hard hit for them, than to see a car company just continue to sell vehicles that are the same model/year as the ones having problems.

Agreed 100%. I think the way they are handling it is great. I'm glad to see that they are halting sales instead of putting more problems on the road.

This doesn't change my opinion of Toyota. I have a Lexus now (made in Japan) and it's very solid car and has done nothing but impress me.

Actually the way they are handling it is VERY shitty!!! The first batch of the metal pieces that would fix the problems were sent to the FACTORIES to take care of the production vehicles FIRST instead of taking care of customers on the road! I guess theyre more worried about losing new customers than taking the ones already driving one.,,,,,

Isn't that the case with all car companies though? Seriously, you get treated like gold when you're a "browsing" customer, or while you're actually buying a vehicle, but after that sale is complete, do they really care? Uh...no  . That's been our experience with the 3 different types of cars we've bought (new from dealer anyhow), from Toyota (love the 2 we have right now) to Dodge (total crap) to Ford (loved the Fords we had).

When Ford had a recall back few years ago on cruise controls on F150, the first batch went stright to dealers to take care of customers. Its very easy to realize that its better to take care of customers on the road , rather than vehicles that havent even left the plant yet....obviously not at Toyota's hHQ tho...

A lot of that depends on the individual dealer.

True! However very hard for dealers to set up appointments for a recall repair when they have to wait on the parts, cause factory got priority ....

Hey I agree, it doesn't make sense. Just isn't surprising to me either, but wouldn't be with any other car company either to me. We've stuck with Toyotas for a while simply because the cars have run great, plus I just like the way they drive and handle, love the interior ergonomics, etc. But we've loved other cars we've owned too. And I survived a BAD crash in a Ford, guy ran a red light and hit me. I was hurt, but I survived :)

Oh I'm sure, and I don't mean to make sweeping generalizations, I've just never known anyone who ever bought a brand new car to rave about how the dealership treated them afterwards.

I mean, I know that happens a LOT. But it's certainly not just isolated to car dealerships. It's just the sad state of business in this country. No one runs a good, sensible business or puts the customer first any more. I've got endless Best Buy and Time Warner Cable stories, for instance.

As a Manager of a dealer group that includes Toyota, I can say our affected customers are being notified and are scheduled for repairs as soon as we can make contact with them. The factory also has to fix the cars being built since they can't be sold with known defects. Our affected inventory is also on hold and not for sale until corrections are made. It hurts sales a bit but it's temporary.

I got a feeling Ford and Honda are going to have this creep up on them also as more consumers start jumping on the bandwagon.

Ford is already issuing a recall on their hybrids just to make sure their cars won't get affected by the break problems that affected the Prius.

As we all agreed , this will be all forgotten , but right now it's really costing Toyota some huge dough.

I have a 2010 Corolla, likely affected by the gas pedal thing. But I'm not worried. If it breaks, they can fix it. Until then I'll keep driving. I drive a manual transmission... if my gas pedal sticks, it's not exactly a big deal. I'm still happy with my purchase, and my payment is pocket change. My cell phone bill & car payment are about the same amount per month. Love it.

The Japanese government is all over Toyota president Akio Toyoda. He might end up having to commit Seppuku, in order for the company to save face.

Well, yeah... but, my bill is $100/mo. My car payment is slightly north of that. But not by much. :D
