A very passive thread about coffee.

Coffee brand can make a huge difference. For the longest time, I was addicted a brand that Shaw's used to carry, called Hawaiian Gold Kona Coffee. It wasn't pure Kona, but it was a very tasty mild coffee and the price was right.

When all else fails, I brew Breakfast Blend. In fact, if all else fails, I usually resort to Breakfast Blend, regardless of the brand.

For a 6 cup pot, I usually measure 3 level tablespoons + a smigeon. 5 level tablespoons + a smigeon for 12 cups. I don't know why, but without that smigeon, the coffee tastes a little weak, but is perfect otherwise.

I've seen those K-Cup machines...it's fine if you want one good cup of coffee once in awhile. But for the coffee junkie like me that goes through 3+ cups every morning...it's not very cost-effective.

Since I consider myself somewhat of a coffee addict, I couldn't help but comment here. Unfortunately you must face the fact that your own coffee will never taste as good to YOU as the stuff you get outside, although others may think it tastes just fine. Although I frequently make my own coffee, I'm never really excited with it like I am from a cup I buy outside - don't know why :? The second thing is the coffee you are using because every brand does taste different - Gevalia (mail order) is one of the better tasting ones, Mocha & Morning blend are best. Most importantly, you mentioned it was bitter and I would think that's because of roast and that you are using too much coffee - most bags say to use an enormous amount so you will go through it fast and buy more, more, more - try cutting it down by half.

Well, that's my two cents on the subject - man, I want a cup of coffee now

Buy a small can of Enfamil (baby formula) powder, and the plastic scoop in there for measuring, use it for one scoop coffee per 2 cups you're brewing. My husband did that when our youngest was a baby still a few years ago, and it works great, lol. Why he saw that and thought "Hey, I'm going to use that to measure coffee" I have no clue, but stuff like that's par for him

Probably the weirdest suggestion you've gotten in this thread, lol.

Lol, strikes a note...my masticating-vs-feasting dilemma: chowing down on self-cooked fare is a lesser gastronomic experience than finishing off non-personally-prepared, albeit identically processed, stuff.

It sounds funny but it's true - there's probably some weird psychological explanation to this
