What about advertising sale merchandise within the forum somewhere, as kinda a visual reminder of what you have to offer? Pop an ad into some of the most interesting threads from time to time. Entice the masses, so to speak. IDK. Just a thought. I LOVE my MR t-shirt! 8)

Well that's why I said it was just a humble opinion. I personally don't think merchandise would be enough to help in the way that this site obviously needs help. TONS of merch was sold at MRF2, and I figured that would have been a great help, but it seems from what Andrew is saying, it wasn't.

And I didn't say pay just to post on a forum, just that it be part of being a member of MR-X. And yes there may be other music forums out there, but for this genre of music, this IS the best one. Those who love the music from the exact artists featured at MRF2 like I do know exactly why and what I'm talking about. Hey I wish merch would be good enough, that would be great, but apparently it's not enough.

What about incorporating Google Ads? Does he have that on the front page?

I don't think there are google ads on the front page. Also, don't you have to click through them to actually get paid? I believe most members come here directly instead of going through the front page so it might be a hard sell to get people to even see the ad let alone click through it.

I had THE best time that weekend, probably the best ever out of all the rock gatherings we've done the past few years, the best time with amazing "old" friends, lol, and amazing new friends, so thank you Andrew. I hope things start to look up and keep getting better and maybe hopefully there can be an MRF3 someday 8)

Paying for membership here would be a good idea too, imho 8)

I agree w/this ^^^^non~members will still be able to read w/no input, right?!?

Yep! I think a good idea would be the $35 annual fee that the MR-X is, but make it so that $35 is membership here with input as well as the MR-X stuff. So people paying not only have the input, but also the MR-X access, and non-payers just get to read. I think that would be great considering all that this site does to keep this music alive! Maybe even a little higher price even if that's what it takes to keep the site alive, since $35 a year is only about 10 cents a day and that's not much at all considering!

Id pay the $35.00 if I get a t-shirt.

+1! I already subscribe to MRX (even though I NEVER go on there!). I'd gladly re-subscribe annually for MRX, and would really appreciate a t-shirt for the donation. To me, that's a win-win situation for Andrew. He could get shirts made for probably $3.00 each. He'd have to pay a little for shipping, but it shouldn't cost TOO much. :D

I would imagine adding a t-shirt would dip into Drew's profit quite a bit, if for no other reason the cost of shipping alone. It's a great idea though. If there's a way to track it, and it would be worthwhile, maybe a t-shirt after 5 years of active membership on MR-X (or something like that).

To Mel, I know how supportive you are of all things melodic rock, and I wasn't trying to be argumentative. I just think that there are lots of people that contribute greatly to these forums that haven't had an opportunity to do some of the things we have surrounding this site and this music, and therefore aren't as emotionally bound. I believe that the forums would lose out tremendously in character by asking people to pay to play. I could be wrong, and if Drew decides to go this route, I hope I am.

I know this is too late to post, but maybe next time leave a box or 2 of t-shirts back here in the states to mail out. I know Andrew trusts a few people on here to have them mailed out. People can still pay by Paypal and any orders that are from the States or Canada can be mailed out from the States, that would save on shipping. You would just need communication (email) from Andrew and the person mailing out the shirts. Whoever is mailing them out would be reimbursed for shipping costs so it would just cost this person time, time to get the order together and have them mailed out. That would be another way to help out Andrew and this site :)

Just an idea for next time :)

I subscribed to MR-X for the first time a couple of months ago and it is worth it, I was able to download a lot of live shows that I have been listening to a bunch.

Andrew, I think you should have t-shirts available to purchase all the time, I wear the one I got from the first MRF all the time, I was happy to finally buy a couple more. You actually had a couple of the old ones for sale, I purchased another to replace the one that is almost worn out. :) Anyway I can help support this site, I will. I will continue to purchase any cd compilation you release, and will be a MR-X sunscriber from here on out! Also If I win the Powerball Lottery, you will not have to worry about anything anymore mate!

I understand, and I know there are plenty of great people here that contribute greatly. Was just a suggestion since Andrew has mentioned more than once how vital the membership money for MR-X has been to the site.

Well whatever the cost, I can't believe it would cost more than $7 or $8.00. If it does... you're getting ripped off! I understand they're quality shirts, but if you buy them in bulk, you can get some good deals out there. It was only a suggestion, but don't look at it like you'd be losing money on shirts. Look at how many more people you could get to buy into MRX that you wouldn't have. Also, every shirt you sell is advertising for the site. How much traffic could be generated by people seeing the t-shirts and saying "what's Melodicrock.com?". Just saying...

Absolutely! I've subscribed to MR-X the last couple of years and love it! He could easily be charging more for that. Have gotten some killer live audio and video shows from there. I lucked out when I first started, it was near the end of the year or the very begining of the year so he had a whole bunch of stuff from the whole year in there. I was like a kid Christmas morning, remember staying up late downloading all kinds of great music and video before it was updated at the begining of the year......even a Mr Big show that yes, even I didn't have.

Andy Taylor, Bad Company, Van Hagar, you name it.........some great concert shows. MR-X is a must for any MR music lover.

How about a paid members only forum? One separate from this one...MR-x could be part of it. Somewhere where musicians from MR could visit and chat with members....you could even have a raffle for a few MRF3 tickets...$10 a POP...you could raise another 3 Gs....or you could raffle off dinner with Wombat & Winger! Raffle some VIP passes with all access at MRF3. Lots of find raising options....

However, let me clarify (and you must not know me that well after all) I did not buy a shirt. I was commenting that they were cool shirts and high quality.
