Well, our engineering manager told me today this was his 11th one (body, not suicide) since he's been in this business. He said after the 5th one he wasn't bugged that much anymore. And boss told me a couple horror stories from previous hotels.

None of our staff found the guy, thankfully. Door was latched. I think the cops were the first in. :? They have to send HazMat in to clean it, so none of our staff will be involved, thankfully.

My friend in PA was telling me this weekend about tornado warnings and stuff, so it must have been bad... :?

Yeah it must have been terrible... he was actually very close to where I went to college in PA.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. It's one thing for the guy to have died tragically, but those circumstances and the mental torment they put on his family is just sickening...

So sorry for the loss of your friend matt:( So young, and with his family there too. Very tragic. Life makes no sense sometimes, that's for sure.

Next it will be cd's and concert DVDs, maybe next week when I get to those. I sold one of my guitars a few weeks ago, it was actually my first guitar I ever had. I'll be getting rid of my last guitar pretty soon along with all the equipment I bought with it back in the day (80's.) My wife doesn't mind me getting rid of this stuff though. Makes her happy actually, because as she says, I had a history with that stuff and now she's supposed to be my only history, and that's cool with me.

I couldn't disagree with you and her more. Our history, our past, and especially our past relationships are what make us who we are today. Anyone who told me they didn't want any reminders of my life before them, or even just reminders of my past partners, is going to be told in no uncertain circumstances to grow up and get over it. But then again, I don't do possessiveness about people, or jealousy.

+1 mistakes and all ...but to each their own!!
Hope you're feeing better, BJG!!!
So sorry about your friend, Matty!!

It all really depends on the weapon and ammo that was used and where at on their body did the person shoot themself. Hand gun, not so bad....one bullet, one entrance and one exit wound. Hollow tip ammo, yeah large exit wound, but still not that bad.....Now a 12 gauge in the mouth...now your talking a real mess.

Lovely thought.

It was a handgun. The guy was a security guard, and was in uniform when he checked in. When he didn't check out the next day, and didn't answer the phone, and our front desk knew he checked in with a gun... they pretty much knew what was going to be behind the door. The desk agent who checked him in said she has a weird vibe about him... :?

So why didn't anyone hear a gun shot? After the bullet entered and exited the guy, most times the bullet will continue through walls, ceilings or a floor into another room, unless it hits something hard like a brick wall or cement foundation.

I can't answer that, I wasn't there, and I know nothing about guns other than don't be in front of one. Silencer? No idea.

I only know there were only two other guests on that floor and it was the top floor, which is also the smoking floor (meaning not heavily occupied anyway). Plus it was an end room, so there was only one room next to it, which would have been a suite and likely not occupied.

Police, security don't use ammo that is going to go though walls and everything else. Cities would have lawsuits out the ass if that were the case. Depending on the caliber of the gun, a gun might be no more noticeable than a car back firing or something being banged into for a second. It is not going to be like the movies where everyone is saying "What was that?"

Many of my ex-military buddies and I still prefer the Colt M1911A1's and so I guess I'm making the mistake by figuring that's what this clown used to off himself. With a M1911A1 going off in a room in a hotel, people won't be thinking it was just a car backfiring somewhere.

Thank you guys for being ... well... you. And thank you to all of you who sent me messages privately, too... true friends, all of you. :D It's still so strange, but I'm less weirded out and I feel better. :) It was 9 or 10 at night yesterday before I could force myself to eat, that's how seriously ooged out I got!

And Matt, I'm still thinking about ya, bro. Hope you're doing ok.

You mentioned getting rid of some CD's and concert DVD's soon. Are you also thinking of parting with those old .45's?

That's the other part that's getting to me... thinking of the guy's family and stuff.

The story we got is that he had family issues/trouble/whatever... it's just sad and heartbreaking to think of the family too. :(

Thankfully, no one here (guests or employees) was involved in any way, as in, no one heard or saw anything... etc. :?

Boy is this a valid point you raise. Like Melissa and Lynn stated, their old man's have come to "accept" this, as they've seen it before. I have to tell you, as a railroad engineer, I hit and ran over many many people, most, but not all suicide. The accident victims you really feel for, as you do for their families, but even in the case of a selfish act of suicide, many people have to suffer, like the policemen, the coroner, the family members, and ME! I suffered many times after accidents. Trust me though, it gets better. The first casualty I had was a family of four coming home from family vacation in Sea World. We hit their car at 90 mph and there was nothing left of it or them. I was mush for weeks. Definite counseling. After about 4 or 5 more suicides, where people would use my train to end their troubles, I gradually wasn't affected by it as much, as long as I did everything right on my end, sounding horn, not speeding, proper braking application, etc. I hope you don't have to "get used to this," but just tell yourself, it isn't your fault, and it's just life. It is a selfish, cowardly act, and no one other than the selfish victim should be feeling anything at all, but of course it doesn't work that way does it? Hell I got so hardened by it, that I stayed in service after many suicides and kept working. Most guys take off for grieving and counseling. Fuck that I said, if I were to do that, I would let the asshole win, by his selfish act, he would affect my life. So I just kept strong about it, and worked right through it.

What do you mean? If your talking actual .45 records, well I got rid of those about six months before I got married.....along with my Playboy collection that I had been saving all issues of since 1980, (the Bo Derek issue). Those boxes that paper comes in when you order it in the office.....those hold about 100 pounds of Playboy magazines a box. My total collection weighed several hundred pounds! I never really thought about how heavy they would be until I got this collection going. Amazing paper weighs that much. The guy I gave the collection to is getting ready to put them on e-bay. Good luck! More trouble then it will be worth. This is the same guy I gave all my old 45's to, if in fact your talking about .45 records.
