I love Kansas as long as Steve Walsh sings. He sang the hits ! Same with Aerosmith. I might get to see them this summer with Sammy Hagar opening. Styx or twigs as Deano says doesn't exist anymore but I do go to see Dennis. Journey is a very small band ,a former shell of the Perry days, just eeking out whatever. NOT ONE DIME NEAL ! Another band is Survivor. Jimi Jamison sang the hits. Now he is back with the main writer Jim Peterik.Yes, I know Dave Bickler 1st sang Eye of the Tiger but he is getting rich singing REAL MEN OF GENIUS for Anheuser Bush Beer. Funny stuff ! NOTICE to ALL of you jealous guitarists- Its the singer, not the song ! VanHalen seems to be an exception because Sammy was better than Diamond Dave IMO. It also works when a singer says he wants to leave like Peter Cetera did.

Page would have been great. Scheff doesn't kick SHIT! Cetera was, and is absolutely amazing (even still today!). Scheff was great on the first couple of albums, but ever since... his vocals have become thin and weak just like Augeri's. He sounds HORRIBLE live. Put down that crack pipe dude.

I saw Kansas with Elefante during the Vinyl Confessions tour, never saw the band with Walsh. Dave Bickler and Survivor opened for them. Never saw that group with Jamison.
Saw Styx with Dennis on the Paradise Theater tour, never saw them with Gowan.
Saw Foreigner with Gramm and have seen them with Hansen. Kelly isn't just someone they pulled off the street, people forget this guy had a Top 40 hit while with Hurricane.
Saw Van Halen with Dave on the Diver Down Tour. Never saw them with Sammy though I have seen Hagar by himself.
I saw Pink Floyd with Gilmour in 94. Best concert I've ever been to. That said, I really do want to see Roger Waters on The Wall Tour but unless I can win tickets, I don't know if it will happen.

And when you’ve got 2 dynamic vocalists like SP and LG putting their marks on some unforgettable tunes, it’s hard accepting anybody but them singing.

Of course, we know Steve and Lou (at their current ages) can’t sing those songs like they once did anymore, but passion for something(someone) is a hard thing to turn on/off.

Well I would rather see the originals sing....it's the magic of the vocals and the person who made them what
they are....it can't be replaced!

I feel the same way as you, Portland. It was Steve's rendition of those songs that made it magical to me. Hearing someone else sing them is not the same. But good for those who enjoy the current Journey.

To the casual fan, which is what mostly goes to these 80 bands' concerts, Dennis was the singer of Styx b/c most of the big hits were by him and he was the identifiable voice of Styx.

I don't follow Styx. Are they playing/singing "DDY's songs" in concert, with his replacement, Gowan? Because, what you are saying about casual fans going to these '80 bands concerts yet are identified with Dennis being the singer of Styx seem to be a contradiction. Can you elaborate on that?

Damn straight on Sweet. Hell of a vocalist/frontman/guitarist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXlnmlzAEYk

 God no... I rarely call people out, but I've got to comment on this! Watched Chicago on PBS Soundstage show (a couple of years ago), and JS sang the songs PC originated. Not even close to the great Peter Cetera! He also sang a couple of other songs I never heard before.... didn't do anything for me.

Now, I realize Peter's voice grates on a lot of people, but I've always loved his singing, and they've had the most hits with him, I think. To each his own, I guess  .

God, Cetera is so fucking effeminate! Dude is too soft...yuck. Makes me want to go searching for a cock to suck, and I don't want to do that! Go watch one of his gay duets with Amy Grant or one of those ridiculous songs...Puke!

I like Foreigner with Kelly, he's not a sound alike and brings enough uniqueness as a frontman. Where as I'm not as impressed with Journey's and Boston's decisions of looking for soundalikes from home depot and youtube. IMO, Michael Sweet was doing a great job on his own, before they brought the other guy in too. IMO, Kelly, Michael and JSS brought/bring something new to the table.

Totally agree Deb! I like Kelly in Foreigner too, have seen them a couple times with him and he's a strong unique frontman on his own. And I didn't see the need to bring someone else into Boston too when Michael was doing a great job on his own I thought! I remember seeing a clip of Peace of Mind and he sounded awesome. Not sure why the other guy has to be there and now he and Michael trade off on leads it seems? :? Weird, but who knows why, lol! And totally agree about VH, I LOVE Hagar-era VH, even more than the original

Hey all... 8)

Mark and I went to Mohegan Sun on Friday night to see a Triple-Bill of Kansas (didn't see them; got there too late for the 7PM START(!) :x), Foreigner, and Styx.

Styx was excellent.....have to comment, tho, on the SHIFT in the Band.....no Dennis DeYoung at the helm; new Lead Singer.....who IS NOT the main "mouthpiece", if you will, of the Band - HOW DARE THEY!!  That honor was shared between Tommy & JY.

Superb show.

HOWEVER......

"Foreigner".....  :x

Yeah; I put it in quotes....I saw the Original Lineup in 85 at the Hartford Civic Center; "Foreigner 4" Tour....Lou Gramm & the rest of the Originals BLEW ME AWAY!!!!

Um....what I saw on Saturday..... :? :?

Mick Jones was the ONLY ORIGINAL guy - it looked like him and a bunch of Roadie-Techs. So disappointed.
Kelly, their new Lead Singer, ACTUALLY YELLED into the Mic: "C'mon, Mohegan - WHY ARE YOU SO QUIET??!!"

NOBODY was on their feet, or screaming, or carrying on.....it was SO embarrassing.

Thoughts?

sorry that you missed kansas Nora... since you are in a band... you would have really enjoyed their music... KANSAS was the FIRST ROCK CONCERT I went to back in 1977... when they were at their peak. GREAT music... great songs... KANSAS is really a great band... that should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame...
