Yep, I totally agree. Was pure thuggery, no better and probably worse than the Westboro idiots. These kinds of things bring out heated emotion in people, who sometimes then wind up doing things they normally wouldn't do. That's a pretty nice little town, or it was when I grew up there, and you normally wouldn't be sitting on the side of the road with a flat tire very long before someone stopped to help.

Free speech entitles you to speak your mind over just about anything in MOST situations, with certain legal exceptions. It also entitles you to bear whatever legal or illegal consequences others choose to inflict on you as a result of you exercising that right.

These people are scum, and the traditional, often convincing rationales applied to allow near-absolute freedom of speech [e.g., with radical political dissent, allowing their radical ideas to either foment or wither in the "marketplace of ideas"] do not even come close to justifying their horrific activities.

First off Parfait, you have to study it and understand it to quote it correctly. Do you know why that was brought about in Numbers? I don't disagree that they are scum because they are. However, utilizing your right to free speech, regardless of how despicable it is, doesn't entitle you to bear the consequences of someone else's ILLEGAL action in response to your LEGAL action. I'm not sympathetic that their tires were slashed. I'm just saying that it was wrong to do so.
