This makes NO sense. If you are a rock band today, and you play arenas/stadiums, I am guessing you are pretty talented. NAME one band today who plays a stadium by popularity alone? It's no couincidence that the bands who sell these barns out are mega talented...with talent comes popularity. You sound a lot like S2M here..

Jon Bon Jovi, when asked if he likes playing arenas to clubs said, "I love the arena. Hell, I want to play the desert....and sell it out, and then do it again." -THAT says it all.

First person that came to mind is Ke$ha. NO talent, it's like somebody went into some dive bar picked out the skankiest ho in the place, threw some funky makeup/clothes on her, and handed her some pop songs to sing. Read she has played Staples Centre, Wembly, etc. and constantly has radio hits. Puuuuuuuhlease, popularity does NOT equate to talent..........Mr Big has more talent in one of their baby toes than Miss Autotune does.

If this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMuHlYZYkEQ ....is considered talent because she can play an arena, then I'll stick to the little "less talented" acts in casinos/bars/clubs if it's all the same to you. :P

Agreed. She also looks like Eric Stoltz without her makeup.

Shitty example. First off staples here in LA holds 18,000. I am talking acts who play Wembley Stadium(not arena), Giants Stadium, and the Superdome. Try again.

Piggybacking off Behshad's blast, um, "Fool" plays on a real good band, while "Cool" plays bars and clubs.

Rippy, really, I need to know this. Are you really that big a fan of Dokken? It just seems so fucking out there....what am I missing here?

Absolutely! One of my favorite bands of all time! Don Dokken is a rock god!!!!

usually I agree with you on the bars/clubs vs stadiums, but we're talking Metallica ! They are truly in a whole another level above BonJovi/Journey ....
They have the talents and they sell out.

And that exactly is the secret of their longevity.

Some people prefer the smaller venues because they are more intimate, and feel closer to the fans. Not all bands/people are arrogant egotistical jackoffs like Jovi.

Also, there is one problem with your theory, if popularity were based on talent, half the people that are on the top of the charts and/or popular today wouldn't be where they are. Not to say there aren't tons of talented acts around these days, there are, they just aren't as popular.

I would say with proper MARKETING comes popularity.

One of my favorites. I don't think it was even a hit here.

April Wine and the NHL!

Good one! They had so many great tunes. Hard to choose a favorite. Whenever I hear the first wail of this on the radio, just puts a huge smile on my face. Some great music came out of the 70s. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usWQOPTORn8

They still sound damn good, Myles is in his early 60s and still sounds great. A friend that went to it too, couldn't believe she knew almost ALL the songs. LOL she has since bought their greatest hits cd. And if they weren't playing here the EXACT same night I'll be in Cali for the Mr Big show, I would be seeing them again this year.
