You're right, I forgot about that whole passage regarding, "Thou shalt take thine passages literally, and the Lord spake, 'Dinosaurs are a trick of Lucifer'."

Exactly.

Um....RWF...and any other pure-blooded "creationists"...and, BTW...I believe the more the definitive the proof of the miracle of evolution, the more plausible the concept of intelligent design becomes (my jury is hung on that one, as my Catholic upbringing is in constant intellectual conflict with my passion for forensic anthropology)...there are literally scores of other discoveries that irrefutably point to the same conclusion.

These findings were published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, a peer-reviewed journal based in London, England.

A new transitional sauropodomorph dinosaur from the Early Jurassic of South Africa and the evolution of sauropod feeding and quadrupedalism:

Cursorial ability appears to have been reduced and the weight bearing axis of the pes shifted to a medial, entaxonic position, falsifying the hypothesis that entaxony evolved in sauropods only after an obligate quadrupedal gait had been adopted.

The catholic church does not preach creationism. Yet that conflicts you?

I'm not conflicted about creationism. I'm conflicted about the concept of intelligent design.

I'm older. When I was growing up and going to Catholic and/or British military schools in Europe, creationism wasn't just taught as an alternative, it was the accepted truth.

The Catholic Church has always accepted the validity of allegorical interpretations of Scripture. St. Augustine, the most influential Christian theologian (and not just for Catholics), found the Old Testament to be an obstacle to his conversion until his mentor explained that it should not be taken literally. Even in the 5th century, people understood that not everything in the Bible could be literally true. Literalist fundamentalism is a relatively recent phenomenon in the history of Christianity. It is a reaction to the excesses of modernism and scientism.

I'm not sure why you posted those links since a) I'm fully aware of the official position of the Church on these issues, and b) I just stated my internal "conflict" pertained to the concept of intelligent design and not creationism. Thanks, though.

No need to get all Gloria Steinem on me there, SPH. I didn't know you were in the process of writing a response when I made my post. Just a matter of semantics.

I'd love to know from whom the "no" vote came.

No, no. Just the assumption that because I have a John Thomas, I must therefore think with it and have the cranial capacity of early Cro-Magnon.

And Dave, RWF, and FF, I would appreciate it if you didn't follow this up with a crack about the veracity of the Cro-Magnon assertion and its inexorable relationship with my leftist leanings.
