Well when you have been around the Pirates for the all your life...and have faced 20 year of futility it is easy to make predictions.

I remember going to games in the mid to late 80s when they were a decent team, back when they had Bonilla, Bonds (pre-steroids), LaValliere, Van Slyke, etc. Those teams were exciting.

It's only been 20 years? Hell, I thought the days of that steroid king Bonds and Bonilla was much longer ago than that.

92 was the last decent team they had, other than the abberation is 97 when they fielded a competitive team, but still failed in the end.

You're not seriously bragging about division championships, are you? Come on dude. You're proving my theory about southern sports fans. I know the Braves are your team, but the fact that team won only once is worse than the Buffalo Bills losing 4 Super Bowls! Also, I wouldn't get too excited over Uggla. Dude is a strikeout machine. Sure, he has decent power numbers but Dan Uggla isn't good enough to put anyone over the top by himself.

Chuck Tanner leaves the batters box.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/ ... X720110211

Retired manager Chuck Tanner, who led the Pittsburgh Pirates to the 1979 World Series championship, has died at age 82, the Pirates said on Friday.

Tanner spent 19 years as a Major League manager, compiling a 1352-1381 record with the Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics, Pirates and Atlanta Braves.

He retired as a manager in 1988 and served most recently as a senior advisor to the Pirates, where he managed from 1977-85.

After his mother died before Game 5 of the '79 World Series, Tanner told his players: "She knows we're in trouble, so she went upstairs to get some help."

The Pirates, down three games to one to the Baltimore Orioles, rebounded to win the next three games and take the World Series championship.

"While no-one had a sharper baseball mind, Chuck was loved by his players and the city of Pittsburgh because he was always positive, enthusiastic and optimistic about his Bucs and life in general," Pirates president Frank Coonelly said in a statement.

Reds have the pitching and Chapman in the bull pen. Unlike the Bengals, owner Castellini is doing things eight.

Chipper is 2nd on the active list for hits, just behind Jeter...then Ichiro, Helton, and Pujols - rounding out the top 5. Dude's been in the league for like forever....

he has...hes actually the last part of the 90's teams still going. But I would be very surprised if hes got much more past this season left in the tank. I respect his drive though.

Chipper is toast! Dude has had a great career but the past two seasons, he has hit .264 and .265 (he's a career .306 hitter). He also can't even get on the field. The guy gets a hangnail every other day and is out of the lineup for a month at a time. Time to put this old, washed up fucker out to pasture!

Use Yahoo. It's free and everyone on the planet is familiar with it. On another note, 10 teams are always tough. I've been running fantasy leagues for 20 years, and once you get over 8 teams, it becomes VERY slim pickings when you're trying to grab someone out of the pool.

Yahoo is far better than the ESPN system.

ESPN is free too. I've played both, it's just a matter of taste. I really enjoy fantasy baseball. ( I've been playing it since '85, most of the time running it as a commissioner ) As far as number of teams, I've done both. The more teams you have, the more you had better know. Everyone knows the top players, but when you are talking more than 200 players you better know your stuff.

Sounds great! I can't do it right now because I have a hot date with Ginger, but I can do it late tonight or even tomorrow. You guys just tell me your preferences i.e, Yahoo or ESPN, standard format or Head to head, etc. etc. etc. I think it would be awesome!
