I'd bet most of these lovey, touchy, squeezy "fans" of melodic rock don't know jack poopy about Gotthard!
But yeah you're right, wouldn't want another spanking from him

Dan and I agree that it is much more fun to hear a loud sing along to a well written, popular song, with 25,000 folks, than a few air guitaring, head nodding drunks in a bar watching Talon for fuck's sake. People, there are reasons why certain artists play huge hockey barns...they are good and people love them and oh yeah, they have written really good songs..so good that people went out and bought the records and learned the lyrics! There is a reason Bon Jovi wants to sell out the desert and probably could....and then there's a reason why Farcry can't sell out a lemonade stand.

OK, Youve totally misunderstood the point that some people are trying to make here. Let me (TRY TO) explain this to you. Watching any great band, specially your favorite band, is always a GREAT experience regardless of 200 or 20000 fans around you. Theyre both great in their own ways. Of course the LEVEL of ENERGY is MUCH higher at a stadium with 20.000 people singing and dancing , than 150 people headbanging in a bar.
Behshad wrote:If you like the artist you will enjoy their performances LIVE , no matter what settings. But ALL Stadium-fillers arent great acts.

Yes, but the probability of a 200 person bar going off is a LOT higher than a 20,000 seat stadium. The stadium going insane is pretty wild, but it doesn't happen all that often because 18,000 of those 20,000 seats are not your diehard fans. I've been to plenty of shows with a crowd that had the energy level of an amoeba, and the show was pretty flat. No fault of the band, but the crowd was simply unresponsive. Get a smaller bar/club, and your diehard percentage increases exponentially, which means the crowd is more receptive to the band and more likely to go crazy. That in turn translates to more energy from the band, and the higher chance of a crazy gig. Overall, I've enjoyed the smaller club shows more for that reason--you get a better crowd most of the time.
There are also things you can do with a smaller crowd that you simply can't do in a large stadium. I've seen shows where the crowd was packed in like sardines with general admission that you were up against people on all sides, then everybody starts jumping up and down and the floor starts bouncing...and you are pretty close to exhausted by the end of the show. You don't get the same atmosphere with seats and concrete floors in an area.
Another show had the artist come out for the encore totally unplugged, and got everyone to sit down on the floor, and then sat down with us, and everyone was singing in this campfire sing-along atmosphere with no mics or amps. Very cool, and you can't do that with 20,000 people.Behshad wrote:If you like the artist you will enjoy their performances LIVE , no matter what settings. But ALL Stadium-fillers arent great acts.
yep, and some of the bar acts are pretty bad also. It all depends on how good the band is live (which has no relationship whatsoever to popularity), and what kind of crowd you get. Get a good band and a good crowd, it doesn't matter how many people are there. Get an off-night from the band, a bad live band in general, or a lackluster crowd, it doesn't matter how many people are there.

So your point ?
I never said all bar bands are great. In fact 99% of bar bands are garbage.

But I still stand by the point that I would still prefer to see my favorite bands fill out stadiums, regardless of what percentage are diehard fans, simply for the fact that tickets sold = money in my favorite bands pocket = future albums and future shows

Brighton Rock ~ Can't Wait For The Night http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_ubd0TEBac (Always thought the LS had a real unique voice, I like it, he could sound smooth as buttah then switch right into a Keefer from Cinderella type rasp) Hmmm, wonder if they're still around.

Their best song is Still the One from '91s Love Machine....they aren't around anymore. LM was their last album of non-live material.
