Wait times. Seen those Apple store lines. LOL

My phone contract is up and Verizon is giving me an extra $50 off on my next phone.

Just pre-order it online and then go pick it up at your local Verizon store when it comes in. It probably won't be more than a 2-4 week wait ... if that.

Order directly from apple.com and they will deliver it to your house (or office ) before noon on release date.

Don't forget the 10 hours it took some of us to get through on the apple site to pre-order the 4! Though it was cool to have it delivered a day or 2 before the actual release date!

2)You can't expand the memory like everything else (no SD Cards).

3)Can't speak about Verizon, but with ATT, you only have 15 days for in store exchange with an Iphone vs. 30 days for everything else.

The only clear advantage that the Iphone has is the total number of apps available.

Im willing to bet that there's more than just apps that makes iPhone so popular. How about the best customer service. If you have any problems with any Apple products you simply take it to an Apple store and more often than not, they will replaces it there right on the spot, no questions asked . They dont even ask for a reciept!
Other minor things that keep iPhone owners happy are of course the simple clutter free interface. Easy to use, even Saint John can use it. Great camera combined with FaceTime.

I wouldn't say they have the "best" customer service- I own a ATT authorized retail store, and if you buy an iphone from me and it's over 15 days old, you have to go to apple to get warranty- sounds great right? In my case, the closest apple store is 40 miles away; so have fun driving... you buy any other phone, and as long as it's under 30 days old, I replace it out of stock; after that att handles warranty. The Iphone IS a great device, but there are other viable options at at lower price.

That's not because of Apples poor customer service. That's due to AT&T and it's poor customer service.
No need to drive to Apple store. They do it as smoothly over the phone. ;)
As far as lower price , you get what you pay for ;)

Latest rumor is iPhone 5 is a 4G WIMAX device and it will be exclusive to Sprint. Like, it won't be sold through Verizon or AT&T.

Any bets on the veracity? Sprint supposedly just bought 35 million iPhone 5s.

The phones were bought over a multi-year span. That said, I don't any scenario where Apple alienates Verizon and AT&T during their busiest quarter.

Well you will get half of the fun anyway with the iOS5 :)
Upgrading your iPhone 4 to iOS 5 software will bring you lots of neat features that will keep you busy till iPhone 6 comes out ;)

My guess it they will announce iPhone 5 and iPhone 4GS for a release date of Oct 21st! 8)

Thinking about switching from droid to iphone. Our contract runs out Oct. 13th. Wonder what the price difference will be between the 4 and 5?

Droid is a cheap knockoff. My girlfriend had one and, after using my iPhone4, switched within a week. I'm guessing the iPhone5 will be the usual $199 with a 2 year contract. Well worth it.

I just went into Verizon and browsed. The Droid Bionic is a beautiful phone. Love the larger screen. The iphone 4 looks pretty similar to my old droid eris. I really want an iphone though so I can import music and movies from my itunes. Instead of getting tied up for 2 years in the Bionic which can't do those things. I may just wait and hope Apple releases a larger phone like the Bionic. (fingers crossed this happens soon)

I don't see who would want a feature that tells your friends and family where you are and how far they are from you... and you know where they are. If they want you to know, they'd tell you. I realize you can control who sees what, but still!! I'm sure glad my parents couldn't track me when I was a teen!

16 months and only an updated iPhone 4 ? Very disappointing! And no Steve Jobs on stage, This is not good for Apple.
Guess we have to wait and see how many people fork up money to get a phone that looks identical to 4 with just more power and nothing else ? :?

I'm confused.... the 16GB is $199 for the 4? That's what I paid for my 4 over a year ago... is that because I traded up from my 3G phone? What was a discount then is the price now?

Yes, but I have an iPhone 4 16GB...and it was $199 when I purchased it... I didn't know they had an 8GB then, I thought it was 16 or 32. Am I just confused? Why are the 16GB 4 and 4s both $199?

Ok... so basically over a year ago, I bought a 16GB iPhone 4 for $199... and now they are discontinuing it... but oh, you can by a freaking 8GB for $199? The same price??? That is the dumbest thing I ever heard of. I'm sorry, but an 8GB 4 is useless to me. I have actually filled my 16 GB with pictures and video, when I have gotten lazy and not transferred them onto my computer. I feel I could never put all of my music on it, because it will use up the rest of my space. As of today right now, I only have 4GB of room on this phone!! And I took 500 pictures off last night, so I can use my phone camera on an upcoming trip! That is NO deal.

I wonder if the 16GB will be cheaper as they get rid of what's left? Or if it will still just be the $199 also. Or maybe they are sold out already? This was not a very exciting announcement today for sure.

Simple for "me" ... are you saying I need simple... :P  I misread the screen on the blog I was following, which is why I asked before if I was confused. Obviously I was. I was looking at the 16GB 4S I guess, being $199. I don't see any point in them having an 8GB 4. They should have continued the 16GB 4 and dropped IT'S price. To me that is a useless phone. All kinds of features and not enough GB. Will there still be a 32GB 4? will it's price drop? Or is everything but an 8GB discontinued?

Psst ... how cool would this be?!? http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/case-maker-hard-candy-bets-big-on-iphone-5-with-4-44-inch-screen/

If Apple doesn't shit out a bigger phone in the next week, these guys are going to take major damage points.

What they did today makes no business sense at all. Did they really think some cool new features, that basically makes it equal to a few of the androids ALREADY on the market, only a smaller screen, was going to have people rushing out for their phone? It would have been better to take more time and have that 5 ready.

Whoever decided to do the big Apple build up for that non- event should update her/his resume.

I would love to wait to see if Apple releases something else but I'm so sick and tired of my Droid Eris that I'm just going buy either the 4 or 4S when I'm eligible for an upgrade next month.

I'm pretty happy with the MyTouch slide (a hand me down from my kid when he upgraded to the G2 a while back).

Games, music, Kindle, Internet; it does everything I need for now. I'm running Cyanogen 7 and it just glides along with stellar battery life and good sound.

1)Iphones have an internal battery (like Ipods) so Apple has to service the device if you have an issue (unlike everything else, where the battery just pops out.

Actually, it IS apple- they set the policies that the carriers have to follow. I never said that apple had bad customer service, just that unlike other devices, it CAN be a bit more complicated to get a defective phone replaced.

But there really wasn't a build up for the event. Just a note sent out saying "Let's talk iPhone." No media allowed, and that should have told me that there was no major product launch. But ... this update is incredible. The 4S is the best phone out there, assuming you're not a gamer that wants a bigger screen. It has 1080HD capability with an 8 megapixel camera, 9 hours of web surfing battery life, 8 hours of talk time, 10 hours of video ... no other device can do that. And the Siri personal assistant is amazing. Way more than any other phone offers.

And it's 7 times faster than the old iPhone4. For instance, it takes the Droid Bionic over 5 seconds to take 2 pictures (3.6 for the first and 1.7 for the second), but the 4S will take the first one in 1.1 and the second one in .5. I think the biggest collective disappointment is the screen size, but this is still a top notch phone, and still the one that Fortune 500 types and Apple zealots will flock to. I expect 5 will be out early next year. Perhaps they just didn't want to pad the earnings during the holiday season, and opted to wait for a slower period to release 5.
