Plant or not, I don't see what the big stink is about. If insurance companies cover VIAGRA, they should sure as hell cover BIRTH CONTROL pills. What matter should religion have to do with someone's private health care choices? My insurance covers Birth Control pills. And they are FAR from FREE! We're talking $318 a month in premiums, plus prescription co-pays. While I don't think that birth control pills should be free, they should at the very least be offered in exchange for a reasonable co-pay.

And, that was exactly her point:

I think people are missing the point of insurance. you can't complain about high premiums in one breath and then ask for even more coverage in the next.

Insurance should be about covering those things that come up unexpectedly that cost more than the average person can afford. With our car insurance, we don't expect free oil changes or engine repairs. With home insurance we don't expect free paint jobs every 5 years. So how did health insurance become this thing that people rely on to pay ALL their medical bills.

I just want something that makes sense. If the government feels that all women should be covered for contraception (even if they can more than afford it) then let the government pass a bill and pay for it. That's how our laws are supposed to work. They are not there to regulate what companies must cover. This administration wants to make insurance companies obsolete. But instead of doing it with bills they cannot pass, they make all these rules to push people to the government role.

My monthly premium - for the same plan - has gone up from $430 a month to $530 a month in the past 16 months. So while everyone wants more coverage, I keep having to pay more. It's just not right.

Rush is an idiot...Never could stand him. Fluke is a liar and a stooge for the libs. She knows damn well that she can get cheap contraception, for only a few $ a month, at Wal Mart, or even for free at Planned Parenthood.

What many of you are missing is the fact that eventually someone "pays" for these mandates. Someone is going to "pay" for the birth control. Contrary to some beliefs, nothing is free...especially if the government is handing things out. If the insurance company is forced to cover it, it is going to be reflected in their new rates.

Those that want to force this to occur are essentially asking everyone to pay for a few's birth control. Period. End of story.

Insurance companies are second to Big Oil when it comes to profit margins. Because they can, they exploit the system and its complete lack of oversight, regulation, and cost controls. THAT, coupled with hospitals and providers increasing their "operating costs" exponentially every year (to cover losses from the uninsured and Medicaid swindlers and, naturally, to make enormous profits to please their BOD's), is what's causing everyone's individual contributions to double every few years. Pretty soon, NO ONE except the very wealthy will be able to afford even serviceable insurance. Just watch as the economy goes up in flames once the tipping point is reached. THAT is why healthcare reform was and is needed. The biggest issues most people have with "Obamacare" is the Gingrich-inspired GOP-pimped and forced-through individual mandate, the lack (due to the insistence of conservative Republicans) of an affordable national high-risk plan for the "uninsurable," and the lack of tort reform (which you can pin squarely on the shoulders of the Democrats).

Rush has a problem with foot in mouth disease. Never been a big fan of shock jocks far left or right. They have to say they are sorry because they speak before they think sometimes.

But as for the issue...with free clinics and health departments in every city this girl could have had contraception for free without having to bother with insurance. If she is making too much to be qualified to get it at those places, she can afford to purchase her own.

It is all to do with forcing the churches to do the will of the far left. It starts with this...then leads to telling us what we can and cannot believe. Nothing to do with women's rights. It would be one thing if she could not go to any other colleges, or could not get it in any other way. We women know if you want it, there are ways to get it cheap. I am not Catholic, nor am I against contraceptives...but why force them to do what is against their beliefs? Because you want to control them. Government sticking it's noses in where it doesn't belong ....yet again!

Where are the far libs screaming for Separation of Church and State now? Makes me want to put up a nativity set on Obama's front lawn. In July.

Nat you know I love you...but I think your point is far fetching...no one is talking a life threatening need. It is not like you can't get birth control at most health clinics...heck even Po Dunk Arkansas gives out free birth control at the Health Department.  I don't know many religions that refuse blood transfusions. But lets say they do. If you chose to go to work for someone like this you need to be aware that they will not cover it. You don't have to go work for them. You don't have to chose to go to their schools. There are other options. One is to change religions or not be part of their school or job in the first place. No one held a gun to anyone's head and made them enroll at a place that is private. These schools are usually the most expensive, and not for people with a poor man's pocket.

On Saturday, Carbonite CEO David Friend released a statement on his company’s website declaring that Carbonite had decided to “withdraw” advertising from Rush Limbaugh’s radio show in the wake of his controversial remarks involving Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke because it will “ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse”:

Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.

However, it hasn’t done much to contribute to his company’s stock price. Since the market opened on Monday through its close today, Carbonite stock (NASDAQ:CARB) has plummeted nearly 12 percent, outpacing the drop of the NASDAQ index in that same time period by nine-and-a-half points. It was also one of the biggest decliners on the NASDAQ on Tuesday.

On a similar note, Dick Johnson's Butt Plugs (a wholly owned subsidiary of Big Ed's Marital Aids, Inc.), announced they were no longer going to sponsor Richard Simmons' "Sweating With the Homos" late-night infomercial after it was reported Simmons had passed away in a horrific electric eel-related incident in 1979 and that, in fact, Susan Boyle has been traipsing about claiming she's him since then.

States have mandated different coverages for DECADES. This has nothing to do with people being able to practice their religion or not. How is having certain coverage in your medical insurance stop you from practicing your religion, or a church from preaching that religion...even if that religion is against contraception? Some religions do not believe in accepting blood...but I would bet there are state mandates out there somewhere to force insurance coverage for blood transfusions.

This entire issue is blown completely out of proportion.

If you did a nice job, I doubt Obama would care.

If there was some law forcing people to have a certain religious belief, I would agree. But, IMO, a mandated medical coverage does not equate to mandating a religious belief, or mandating people to not have a religious belief.

If birth control was covered for women, we'd have alot less abortion and people living off the dole. I do not understand why we do not allow that to be free in this country? I work for Medicare/Medicaid and trust me....people need to stop having so many children that cannot afford them nor want them!

This too shall pass.

It's all cyclical. We get our panties in a wad over some celebrity comment. Tomorrow, it will be someone else.

Limbaugh, Maher, etc. Give them enough rope, they'll hang themselves.
My life won't be affected, with or without them. Who gives a healthy s#it, really?!

Nobody is saying that the administration wants to force people to take contraception. The force we are talking about is forcing businesses to do something that they have deemed not smart for their business or forcing religious institutions to support a practice they are against.

Yes, that is how I post.

I was just stating that if a church or a school run by a church is force to go against its beliefs for medical coverage or anything else it is the government overstepping its bounds.

And, my point is, nobody is forcing anybody to go against their beliefs. The Catholic church believes contraception is somehow sinful. Ok, fine. So, the Catholic church is not being told to tell its members to use Contraception, only that it be covered in their health insurance. Also, nobody is forcing Catholics to use contraception. Therefore, no beliefs are being forced on anybody.

Religion is based on faith. Does the Catholic church not have faith that their members can not control themselves enough to not use contraception? If the church has so little faith in their members, why should the members have any faith in the church?

And, the entire 'slippery slope' of mandated coverage is BS. Like I said, states have been doing that for decades. If a church is going to be run like a business, it should be treated like a business...in fact, IMO, they should be taxed too. How often did Jesus ask to be paid in cash for his works? Seems to me he asked the rich dude to give all his wealth to the poor and THEN follow him.

Now your right I did not hear anymore than what was said in the media.

Of course not....it's a pretty lame and boring speech, actually.

The people who agree with Rush (Fact Finder) didn't either. I doubt Rush even listened. He goes on and on about people lined up around the block to have sex with her. Saying she must have started in jr. high...and she wants us to pay for her condoms. All kinda of wacked out things...and people are agreeing with him and thinking she is asking for free condoms. When she is talking about OTHER PEOPLE she supposedly knows who have prescriptions they can't afford - some for MEDICAL REASONS and not pregnancy prevention at all. THAT is what she spoke about to congress. Geez, she didn't even mention condoms...it was explicitly about the pill.

So, how some lady making that argument gets turned into an argument about why that same lady whores herself out should not get free condoms is simply people jumping on an emotional bandwagon without knowing anything about what was REALLY said.

Is it not scary that the public can be drawn down such an ignorant path by media LYING to them and exaggerating the issue and blowing it out of proportion?

If Rush had not gone all wacko, this lady would have been ignored.......IMO, most of what she said was invented anyway. What Rush said was all invented too...but, it was done in a slanderous, misleading way by lying to his listeners. He was wrong....and NOBODY should be defending him.

Go play in traffic for a while will ya? It would make me feel better. :P Have a great evening.

And, if I get hit by a car, my health insurance will pay for part of the bill....and that would make everybody angry because they had to pay for me doing what you told me to do :)

Why have you not been arguing against this for the past THIRTY YEARS?

Oh, wait, maybe its because Republicans decided to make an issue out of it this year.

Hmmm, wonder if RomneyCare has been picked apart for what coverages it mandates? Since he's the likely nominee....I think it would be something he may want to have an answer for.

Granted, people speak of news items. But don't you think that those that speak out against it must hold those beliefs and therefore have always felt that way about many things? Or do you think they just do what Rush tells them to? I don't think anything because someone tells me to. But I may comment on what is in the news. And forcing an insurance company to cover contraception for all women, whether they can afford it or not, is just plain wrong. In fact, covering most things that people can afford is wrong. And you say it's not a slippery slope when in fact you stated two things that in fact do indicate it's a very slippery slope. Number one, you say the states have been mandating for years. Hmm, that sounds like a slope to me. And number two, you mentioned this whole situation, insurance companies covering contraception. Sounds like the slope getting steeper. And further proof yet is the government telling religious organisations that they must cover things that they inherently are against. Whether you agree with a religion's views or not, this country allows a certain level of freedom for the practice of religious views. The slope gets much steeper as we go, doesn't it?

If you can state the need for a woman making $100,000 a year to receive free contraception, I'd really love to hear it. Not sure why my rates have to go up for that.

If you believe that the government has a right to tell private companies what they must sell, or where religious organisations must break with their traditions, then no one is going to change your mind on this. And you simply don't see the constitution as something we must first amend before we can make laws beyond it. But I warn you - if that's your premise, there will be much chaos for you when the people you dislike come in and do things without our long-stated process, and you will have no defense.

I personally do not believe that people should be forced to have insurance. In fact, it makes me sick to think the government thinks they can even attempt it, yet they have. And before you think I am following someone's marching orders, I feel that way about many things and have since I was a teenager. All sides.

It's so funny how the two sides point fingers. When once in power, they all do the same crap. For instance, Gitmo was ok for the right, and evil for the left. All that no right to due process/devoid of due process stuff. You know - the right holds them forever, the left wants to put them in court like common criminals. And then suddenly, the left says it is ok to target and kill an american citizen without any due process, and the right says BS.

For the right - make a list of all the things you hate about Obama right now. Bush did mostly the same stuff. For the left, I heard 8 years of pure hatred for Bush. I challenge you to find a 10 percent difference in Obama at the end of your list. Not theory and what he thinks, but what he's done. There is a counter to nearly everything in that list.

I'll help you with the big ones. Abortion is no more legal now than it was under the last several republican presidents. Obama says he promised to get out of Iraq, but it was Bush's negotiated timeline he followed. Obama is against gay marriage, just like George. Obama passed Obamacare, George Bush passed Medicare and prescription drug benefit entitlements. Want to talk about transparency, presidential powers, the Patriot Act, campaign finance, and lobbyists? Every president has gotten progressively worse (or corrupt in my opinion) as they went. Obama is the king of all this and nobody challenges him on it. George was a formidable runner-up. How about this one - deficit reduction. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Balanced budgets. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Taxes. Ha ha ha ha ha. I have to stop myself before I puke!

It's so funny how the two sides point fingers. When once in power, they all do the same crap.

I think that is why more and more people are independent these days. It is not a matter of which side is better, just who will do the lesser damage. Its a crap shoot.

It is true the old saying: Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The problem for now is that no matter how many independents there are, everyone still has to pick between the two corrupt parties.

The brightest minds in our country want nothing to do with what was supposed to be "public service". They are out making fortunes. The scum who have the stomach for politics run and get on the gravy train at our expense.

As I said...choosing who will do the lesser damage. Not so much party affiliation.
