Just to make sure I've got this straight, the show you saw was on the Sunday night which followed a Friday night and a Saturday night both of which were the 2 nights immediately preceding the Sunday night in question. Did I get it right? Image Sorry buddy... I couldn't help myself. :P
Seriously though, that's very cool! That tour was arguably the best they ever sounded in concert. Unfortunately I never saw them with Perry so I missed out all around.

It was a hell of a show. Loverboy opened and they were great too.

We took quite a bit with us on the trip mainly to use as barter material because neither of us had any money aside from the little bit we had managed to scrape together for the actual concert tix. The morning of Hard Rock day, day 2 of the festival, the gates opened at 9am and we were in the venue by 9:05! The first band went on stage at 11am. So, between the time we got in and Quiet Riot taking the stage, we walked around basically people watching. We saw these 2 beautiful blond girls sitting on a blanket by themselves so we asked if they got high and wanted to smoke. They said they'd match us which was very cool. These girls were gorgeous and turned out they were from Australia and had come all the way there just for the show! Anyway, we rolled up a fatty Cheech would have been proud of and burned it with them. This stuff was so good, more than 2-3 hits was just a waste, seriously. A little while after we burned our doob it was their turn. One of the girls pulls out this toothpick-sized pinner and me and my buddy were like WTF? They both laughed and told us not to worry. The four of us smoked the tiny excuse for a joint and that was all she wrote!! It was some seriously badass shit! Not laced with anything - just unbelievable pot! We ended up not breaking out any of our own shit until Van Halen took the stage at 11pm that night!!! To this day, I have no idea even what kind of pot it was or its origin but I can say it was def the best shit I've ever smoked!! Ahhhh, good times!

Yeah, I remember you told about that in another thread. Must have been some of that skunkaramous from aussie. But the kick came from smoking it with 2 fine blonds i'm sure of it!

I think Peartree has won the concert contest. Anyone who got to see Led Zep and Pink Floyd with all 4 original members is the winner in my book!

How about I throw in 1969 The Allman Brothers (including Duane)? 8)

Rick, you know this causes me soooo much pain for missing that Houston show, lol, though I'm glad you made the Dallas show. One of my favorite shows was going to see Steve Augeri for the first time and not knowing Jeff was doing the show. Holy shit, he was great! Another great was Journey with Heart, and it was ALL about Ann Wilson. That lady brought tears to my eyes and goosebumps all over. What a legend.

This is a little embarrassing to admit but my first concert wasn't until about 8th or 9th grade and it was Garth Brooks.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Garth is a Helluva showman and puts on an incredible show. My first concert was ABBA at the Concord Pavilion in '77. I was in 7th grade and won tix on the radio to go with one of the DJ's to the show. For the longest time I was embarrassed to admit seeing them but as I got older and wiser and pretty much stopped giving a shit what other people thought, I embraced them being my first concert. They were so incredibly tight and polished! And best of all, it was FREE - my second favorite 4-letter word that starts with F. :P

Probably my very first live show i attended which was Joan Jett opening for Aerosmith on the Pump tour in 1989.That is what i consider the last really good album Aerosmith did.Young Lust and F.I.N.E. was one hell of a one two hard rocking punch to open the album before the third song Love In An Elevator.Other hard rockers on that one was Monkey On My Back and Voodoo Medicine Man.The next album four years later was Get A Grip the one with all the MTV ballads on it in '93 like Cryin',Amazing,Crazy, etc.i never cared for it much.Of course not long after this album was released they released I Don't Want To Miss A Thing another smash ballad and as far from their hard rocking roots as they could get.

Anyway back in the late eighties Aerosmith still rocked pretty hard and this was my first show right after school had started back. One thing i noticed not long after Aerosmith started their set was a huge smoke cloud and an even bigger joint being passed around. And i was there with an older brother and cousin and had to travel about an hour and a half because i lived out in the boonies and had just started high school. So i look back about two rows after getting stoned and noticed a lady who looked just like my first period teacher.I told my brother who said i was paranoid.I glanced again two rows back the same woman just gave me a little smile.WTF? Anyway this became the main topic of conversation after the show and with my brother assuring me once again i was being paranoid.

Next morning i go into first period and was running late and when i came into the room all eyes were on me.My teacher walks up to me and my desk looks down at me and proceeds ask me how last night went.I look up and she is wearing an Aerosmith concert shirt .Then she said she noticed i was having a lot of fun at the show   .To this day i know she saw me toking on pot half the show but i swore during that whole show i thought i was being paranoid but it really was her sitting two rows back. She also must have traveled the couple of hours there to the show the night before like i did.Bizarre

I saw Journey when Jeff was at the helm. I was also expecting Augeri, so when I heard, while I was in line to get in, that Augeri wasn't there, I was disappointed. I didn't go in there wanting to like it, and I didn't. Being closed minded about it, like I was, ruined the show for me. I enjoyed Deff Leppard, who closed, though. I did begin to like Jeff at the helm and then began to love it. It took me a bit, but I got there. I got to meet Jeff in Fort Worth when he doing a solo gig with Gary Schutt, Howie Simon and Dave DzIcantspellhislastname lol. That was a fun show.

I also saw them when they toured with Heart. And you ain't kidding. Ann Wilson singing Reign O'er Me was incredible. She was amazing all night. If I wasn't such a big Journey fan, I would say that Heart stole the show, but Journey was damn good that night too. Arnel and the band were in fine form. It was one of those synergy things, where all components were in tune.

I came up with a few, but I'm only going to list one as per the rules:

U2 - October 2009, Raleigh, NC: When they played "Beautiful Day"...during the acapella "daaayyyy" before the song kicks back in, the combo of the vocals, the lights and the atmosphere of the show/song brought tears to me eyes.

1. Getting free tix to the Journey show in 2006 from JSS and getting to meet him before the show and take a couple of pictures with him and my daughter.

2. Seeing Kansas perform in downtown Indianapolis, outdoors amongst the high rises and looking around at all the folks out on their balconies listening as Robbie Steinhardt sang these words to their song "Miracles Out of Nowhere":

I sang this song a hundred, maybe a thousand years ago
No one ever listens, I just play and then I go
Off into the sunset like the western heroes do
Tell me what you're gonna do

JRNYMAN wrote:Maybe not THE best overall but definitely in the top 3 was The US Festival in '83. I was 18 and loving life! A buddy of mine and I hitch-hiked from the Sacramento area to San Bern. to attend the concert. Hard Rock day was the ultimate show of its kind for that era:
Quiet Riot
Motley Crue
Joe Walsh (Scheduled to perform but didn't show up. Apparently he was famous for that back then.)
Triumph
Ozzy
Judas Priest
Scorpions
Van Halen
500,000 people are a lot of bodies! The closest we got to the stage at any point that day was during Triumph. We were about 50 feet or so from the stage and it sucked! People were getting smashed together and there was a layer of body heat that was overwhelming! At one point we turned around and looked back at the crowd and as far as you could see there were people - literally! It was such a blast being part of that crowd and experiencing it. And the sound was unbelievable! It was the debut of "Diamond Vision" which featured screens on either side of the stage that were fucking enormous and crystal clear. Still have never seen screens that big at an event to this day. It was an event I'll never forget a single minute of.

I heard some stuff about the US Festival in '83 a few days ago. There was talk about Judas Priest releasing the footage for that show and that, previously, Triumph had been the only act to do so because they were the only band that actually owned their own footage.

That was the first tour where Scholz finally put together a live sound that could rival the albums. I still think their 2003 tour with Delp, Fran Cosmo, Anthony Cosmo, Gary Pihl, etc., was the best sounding tour by a band that I've ever seen. Of course, they had like five different guys onstage playing all the rhythm parts, along with Scholz playing most of the solo guitar parts.

I've only been attending concerts since 2003 but my favorites that I've attended are:

KISS - Rock the Nation 2004 tour in Scranton, PA - KISS is my favorite band of all time and I finally got to see them live. The Rock The Nation setlist was and is the best setlist they've performed since before the reunion with Ace and Pete. It's also the last tour that Paul's vocals didn't sound like complete shit.

Extreme - Saudes de Rock tour in Lancaster, PA - I didn't care all that much for the opening band, I think it was Kings of Leon or something like that. Extreme fucking brought it that night. Cherone I read afterwards was apparently under the weather and still sounded flawless. Nuno is quite possibly the most under rated guitarist in rock history. I was a moderate Extreme fan before the show after the show hardcore extreme fan.

Billy Squier - Penn's Peak in PA, whenever he toured last - Billy has always been one of my favorite artists and to finally get a chance to see him perform live was great.

Ace Frehley - Crock Rock - Allentown, PA New Years Eve 2007- Ace actually got me interested in KISS after seeing his smoking guitar bit on "Live +4" VHS. As a child around 8-10 years old that was awesome. Ace busted through some of my favorite songs of his that he wrote in KISS like Parasite, Rocket Ride, Shock Me, Hard Times, and Cold Gin. He also played some of my solo favs or his like Shot Full of Rock, Stranger In a Strange Land, and Breakout. The only complaint about the show was the Crock Rock in Allentown is a hole in the earth and concerts should not be held in crap places like that.

Soul SirkUS - Crock Rock - Allentown, PA. It was the 1st show they did and JSS was the fucking man and to this day has the best stage presence of any vocalist I've seen.

Also of note, John Mellencamp was scheduled to play on the final day of the '83 festival. However, he dropped out due to a dispute over the video rights. Joe Walsh, who was originally scheduled to play on Heavy Metal Sunday was then moved to the final day in what would have been Mellencamp's slot. The promoters then wound up booking Quiet Riot as the opening act for Metal Day and the reception they received played a big role in their album Metal Health reaching #1 on the Billboard album charts a few weeks later.
Yes he was. I mis-stated that fact. He was supposed to have played after Triumph and before Ozzy but he was a no-show and no explanation was ever given as to why. Only now, after reading what you posted did I learn he played the following day. We were there for the Saturday & Sunday shows. Good information though, thanks!

Looking back, one of the things that still blows me away was the ticket prices. $20.00 per day!

True. They (INXS), were never the same without him.

Amazing isn't it. When people actually buy the album, the cost of a ticket is kept to a minimal. Now today if that festival played, it would have been 1500.00 per ticket, per day!

That debut Boston album (the original un-remastered version) still holds up today, in my opinion. All the versions I ever had (multiple cassettes, CDs, etc.) sounded great.

I think I still have a bootleg copy of that '73 Zep concert in Milwaukee. If anyone is interested, PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy. I also double checked the date of the Allman concert and it was Sept 4th 1970 I was 17. It was at a night club called the Scene. This show was about 3 wks before their famous Fillmore concert.

best memory I've ever witnessed was Butch Walker in Raleigh. 2hr high energy rock show, then for the encore, he came out alone with an acoustic guitar totally unpluged. Walked into the audience at about the center of the room, sat down and everyone followed, and just sang one song in "campfire" style with the audience. No mics, no amplificiation, just 500 people singing one song together. Just beyond cool...
