mgstar1964 wrote:After two days, I just still can't wrap my head around this ... the weird part is, I had only met him once briefly 5 years ago at a show down here in S. FL, and only had a couple of PMs from him, at most ... Yet and still, I've always felt like I knew him, and like he was a long-distance personal friend, beause he shared all of himself with us here online - I always knew I was in for a good read when he posted - whether it was about Journey, Tapegate, Bruce, inside information on the band, and his other political and personal rants ...

Its weird to feel this way, but in a sense, I think everyone here is struggling trying to define this loss and what it means to our lives ... We feel like we lost a member of the family, or a friend that you just weren't able to get together with in person that often, but you always kept in touch with via the internet ...

I was just at a Get Motivated Business Seminar today in Miami, with a ton of motivational speakers, including Gen. Colin Powell, and John Walsh (America's Most Wanted) and I actually thought of Dean, because a lot of the speakers talked about truth in convictions, following your passions, trying to follow and live your dreams ... Deano did all that, and much more - he actually impacted people's lives here, and beyond - people he would never meet in person, even ... That is a testament to his genius and his gifts that he left behind ...

John Walsh speaking about the tragedy of losing his son Adam also hit home to me today, and I thought of Deano and Lula losing Trevor 4 1/2 years ago ... I hope no parent on here, or anywhere, has to endure that type of unimaginable pain of losing and burying your own child ...
Life is precious and fragile ... Cherish your loved ones and let them know how much you care, because tomorrow is not promised to anyone ...

All of his posts should be somehow archived and saved in one single, solitary section of this site ... it would be a real triibute to his legacy - past, present, and future ...

Just some more of my .02 ...

Best Regards,

Michael

Daniel and I chatted with Deano on facebook from time to time. And once on the phone, he wanted us to meet him in LR and travel on a train to Chicago to meet some of the other MR people. He offered us tickets and everything, but I have a thing about not being beholding to folks. I don't want to go if I cannot pay my way. But I thought how generous. Sometimes I wish things were better so we could have taken the time off, and gone on that train ride. It saddens me so that I never got to see him face to face, and given him that hug I always wanted to give him.

My husband can tell you when I heard the news I broke down and bawled. It is like someone said above, he made you feel instantly at ease, and like you had known him for quite some time. I know how heavy my heart felt and I can only imagine how awful some of you who have known him on a much more personal level must be taking this. I want to say for those of you who knew him better than I did, I wish for your heart to be eased with time. I know he was a jewel of a person, much like a diamond in the rough, and still precious all the same.

I don't think we should forget that Deano literally saved Journey from destroying themselves via the Tapegate scandal. They would have gotten caught, eventually, and become the laughing stock of the rock world. It might have cost the band some negative publicity at the time, but no-one remembers that nowadays. Deano probably saved the band $50 million or more - and saved my favorite band from the ultimate humiliation.

I made up for it last night. I got drunker than shit and discussed Dean with my wife (who was ever so patient with me) all night. I'm sure Dean would have been proud of me. :D

I'm so sorry to hear about Dean's passing. His kids and family are in my prayers.

I was going back and forth with Dean from the time he joined the boards especially Styx vs. Journey for years. We also had disagreements with other bands/musicians and also some of the early "characters" from this board. I was reading back on my PM's and emails, like everyone elses, they are priceless ! He had a way with words and descriptions.

I met him back in 2005 when he came to Illinois for a Journey concert. I have a bunch of pictures that I posted on here years ago. He had a blast in the snow!!! It was a fun time especially when we went to a Chicago Bears bar owned by previous Bears players to watch the Bears / Packers game the Sunday after the concert. Well, I was dressed in my Packers clothes and he had a field day with the Bears fans. LOL He ended that day with a breaking his hand by playing a bowling game in the bar. Before going to the hospital he wanted to finish the game - LOL

We had long conversations during that time about his older kids, they meant the world to him.

Here is a picture after the Journey concert with Kevin Chalfant.

Oh, gosh I just saw this...so sorry to hear this news. I know people can be so different online than they are in person and I remember being a bit scared of Dean until I met him briefly at a JSS show and he bought me a drink! He was gregarious & friendly and I asked how the new babies were doing (sadly, shortly after that I read about their tragic loss and my heart broke). Certainly he was passionate in his views and creating debate, but I think it helped to provoke thinking & question things and he would be sincere in his apologies as well. Rest in peace, Dean, & my thoughts and prayers to his family.

I have not had a chance to post here. I just could not believe it when I read it. Deano was the soul of this place and I was always amazed at his posts. Never interacted with him as I usually was lurking, but I always enjoyed his wild and crazy posts. A sad loss and condolences to his family, friends and everyone here.

Ginger that's sweet. Dean might call it gay, or some other such colorful term ... Because of the pose and the dress, er... robe... But I think he would appreciate it nonetheless.

The last time I spoke with Deano was through an exchange of pm's back in August. I regret not checking back in with him. It seems so sad that his heart is what finally took him. Please correct me if it wasn't his heart :(

Has anyone heard from Dan? I assume he knows by now.

It is gay!!! But he would have LOVED every minute of hating it and complaining about it to that effect...and then sent Ginger a PM saying how cool it was for her to do that...with a "fuck you" at the end for making him spill his beer laughing!

I`ve been mostly a lurker on this Forum even before I joined.
So I had the opportunity to read and enjoy his posts.
Sometimes controversial and rude but always maintaining a certain vocabulary flair with a great sense of humor.
He will be greatly missed on this board.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

RIP Deano.

Seeing how a ball team will wear a black band or something on there jersey when someone passes, or flags at half mast. Maybe we should have a special avatar that everyone uses for a week or two?
