Actually, most of what Obama has done is more fascist in nature than socialism.

"Fascism, pronounced /ˈfæʃɪzəm/, comprises a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology[1][2][3][4] and a corporatist economic ideology developed in Italy.[5] Fascists believe that nations and/or races are in perpetual conflict whereby only the strong can survive by being healthy, vital, and by asserting themselves in conflict against the weak"

Sounds more like what the Repubs have been doing. But I admit, the Dems are just as beholden to Corporatism as the Repubs.

What the fuck do you people think we would do without the "big, bad, evil corporations?"

Who will fund the government? Pay your paycheck? Provide jobs? Fund innovation, ingenuity and other useful social activity?

Just because there have been some unscrupulous scumbag executives who made millions/billions while running their companies into the ground and screwing their employees over does not make all business an evil empire. I understand the root of the frustration, but I don't understand the extent of the rhetoric.

I'm really curious what you people want or envision when you spew this anti-corporate, anti-profit crap. Do you want everyone to live off a grand a month from a government (that would very quickly be insolvent there)? All non-profit companies? (Someone has to make a profit to fund the non-profits, genius)? All government jobs in every sector of industry? What?

No problem with profits whatsoever. BUT, if business does not reward workers with decent enough wages we end up where we are at. People's borrowing capacity has hit the wall and now the economy almost collapsed. Just like the roaring 20's lead to the Great Depression. Too much wealth concentrated at the top. Sorry, it's a fact. That's just what happens. Henry Ford gave his employees big wage increases because he realized they wouldn't be able to buy his cars it they didn't have enough money.

I understand the emotional appeal and to some extent it's true - there aren't steel/factory/mining etc. type jobs anymore that allow Joe High School to go straight to work and very comfortably raise a family. That's reality, it's a service/knowledge economy now. That will NEVER change, no matter how much you try and tax the businesses or "redistribute the wealth." That's the reality of the world.

Not everyone is entitled to six figure salaries. Not every one is entitled to buy a new car every 80,000 miles. In fact, no one is entitled to anything.

Every one should live within his means, and unfortunately a lot of people don't want/know how to do that. Henry Ford couldn't have given his employees wage increases without a strong bottom line. Take that away from Ford in confiscatory tax rates, burdensome regulations, and whatever else people want to see done (a lot want companies shut down, no?), and no one's better off and all the "downtrodden" (a lot of them in debt by their own fault and trigger happy spending habits, to be sure) are much worse off.

It's like the health care debate here in Ohio. The health care industry is the one thing keeping this state and my city (Cleveland) afloat. You pass all the garbage Obama wants to pass, whoaaaa boy let me tell you how many people will be out of jobs and how much worse the state and city bottom lines will be. This whole argument against corporations making "excess profits" doesn't consider the consequences of its propositions. Yeah, things may be unequal, things are done that are unethical, but hey, life isn't fair. I'm patently against a scumbag executive screwing a company into the ground and running. I'm not against a talented executive who worked his ass off making 6x the salary of a clerical worker who has been content to punch the clock from 9-4:30 every day of his career. Sorry.

I know guys who make $35K a year who don't owe anyone a penny. I also know people who make well into the six figures who are using CCs to pay off other CCs and owe every Tom Dick and Harry a chunk of change. There are problems with business today, that's obvious, but there are far bigger problems with people not being wise with their own lives and finances.

Generally, the people I know who are in good shape are those who sacrificed - people who didn't buy their first new car til well into their 30s, limited their vacation expenditures (and still do), people who started 529 college plans for their kids the day they were born, people who purchased insurance instead of spending hundreds a month on cigarettes and booze, people who wait til they can pay cash for expensive appliances/pleasures etc. (or don't buy it at all...).... perhaps most crucially, people who WAITED to have kids til they could afford them... the list could go on.

There will never be perfect equitable distribution of wealth, thankfully. Can't imagine anything worse.

You are exactly right about the Healthcare industry. I work for one of the biggest Healthcare product manufacturers/distributors in the country. They have already sat the employees down and told them what has to happen (cutting back wise) for them to still have a job (maybe) if the Obama plan comes to fruition. So far this means...no more OT,vacation freezes,no new hires for non customer service positions (could be any hiring period, if not enough money is saved),no hiring from temp agencies, limited to (possibly none) merit raises,no travel to out of state customer locations, cutting back on office supplies etc.

this is the problem. we have to look at the bigger picture. health care should not be a for profit business. to be concerned with bottom lines where the health care of citizens is concerned is absurd. to say "unequal" and more importantly "unethical" is simply due to life not being fair is a huge cop out and disgrace. our fathers, grandfathers, etc fought to give us all a better life. those of us fortunate enough to have jobs in which real health benefits are provided need to recognize that our fellow citizens, many employed with health benefits that are inadequate, many who have lost there jobs and insurance, and those simply uninsured, dropped because of a preexisting condition..... it just goes on and on. in this country that is to be the beacon of hope, of promise, it is a crime that our fellow citizens go without or can be bankrupt overnight because cancer decided to pay a visit. it is time. we should be ashamed that our country ranks 38th, just behind costa rica and just in front of slovenia. sorry for us all if things remain the same.

Really??? How then do you propose to pay doctors who have invested hundreds of thousands of dollar into their education???

There is already a shortage of MD's in the US precisely because it is VERY hard to make a profit as a doctor. Oh sure...their tax returns shows $500K, but $300K goes to malpractice insurance, a ton goes to continuing education, and paying for office space and student loans.

Most doctors actual take home is well under $100K per year on average.

You are such a softie Lula, and I love that about you. You are one of the BEST people I know. But reality needs to intrude once in awhile: If a doctor, hospital or what have you cannot make a profit, and cannot pay its employees a fair wage because they are not allowed to make a profit then they will go out of business.

What happens then?? The Government takes over??? And pays for it how?? Oh yes...by raising taxes, not just on the the rich, it would have to be a tax raise on ALL of us to try and fund it. TRY being the operative word. Along with all that would come little to no choice on which doctor you can see and when.

So to sum it all up...less money in my paycheck, little or no choice in what doctor I can see, provided there is one to see, and crush debt left to our GREAT grandkids. NO thank you!

yes stu, doctors have to make a living, good ones a good living, lol. malpractice insurance premiums are through the roof and i think something needs to be done about that. what i have a problem with, besides what i've said, is insurance companies having a monopoly and premiums rising in what seems to be more than an average. insurance companies make insanely huge profits and that is the business that sickens me. i'm not saying go to a single payer plan, i just want to see more options for what has become the consumer, rather than the human being. i understand the need for profit to fund research and to employ people, but the health insurance game has made many people rich and it's on the backs of the working, of the sick, and.... you know. i just don't want to see the debate end and i want to see something positive come out of our good for nothing government.

More options would be good....but a Government option is just going to create a 2-headed monster. The bottom line is we'll have to choose between Private Insurance or Public insurance making medical decisions for us.

We (the people) are going to need to get creative here. HSA's are a nice start I think.

Conveniently lost in the liberal raging against health insurance companies and the fact they are "in business" is the fact that they and good hospitals/health care providers are an integral part of our economy. One of the few things that hasn't crashed in this economy.

Also, not all insurance companies make "huge profits," contrary to the liberal talking point favorite. In fact, some of them don't make any profit at all. Our #1 ranked insurance company here is a mutual company, owned by the policyholders. Any "profit" they make goes into the surplus pool and is passed back to the policyholders. In fact, the company is quite well thought of in our state. Even the media doesn't demonize them, because quite frankly, Cleveland would be dead in the water if the company were to go under, especially with National City getting bought out by PNC Bank.

Those fuckhead whackos from MoveOn.org tried to stage a protest outside the building Tuesday for their National "Sick of Big Health Care" day or whatever those lazy jobless retards called it, and 20 people showed up! LOL. No media coverage, nothing.

Not all insurance companies exist just for the bottom line.

I went to fuckin church 8 straight goddamned years and all I got was a lousy Bible. I wanted to put that saying on a t shirt once....anyway, I used that Bible to balance out a table leg that had broken exactly2 inches off, the same width of the Bible. So, in 8 fuckin years, I got a balanced coffee table to show for it. Now I say fuck it, and get a bean bag.

Coulda been worse, dude. You could be blowing up abortion clinics, shaking snakes in the South, or stumbling around door to door like those goofs that I just love slamming my door in the faces of. People, I seriously doubt God needs us to pray. Be practical, quit wasting fucking time and make a difference rather than praying for it to happen. Or be like me and do a little bit of both. :)

Campaign Fund-Raiser Hsu Sentenced to 24 Years in Prison

NEW YORK -- A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced former Democratic fund-raiser Norman Hsu to more than 24 years in prison for illegally funneling tens of thousands of dollars to U.S. political candidates and for his role in a Ponzi scheme.

The sentence of 292 months in prison, handed down in a U.S. District Court in Manhattan by Judge Victor Marrero, was less than the 30 years that the prosecution had requested.

About all I agree with you on is that Religion has caused plenty of unrest and war. The wackos will find a cause and it happened to be religious beliefs.

By the way, what did you expect to receive after eight years of going to church? A cut of the offering plate or something? You surely got a couple of pot luck meals and some free wine during communion. I'm not trying to preach, but maybe you were looking for the wrong thing. However, to each their own.

It's just as I stated the other day, and at the beginning of this thread. Chronicling the first term of the President.

My question is why you guys have an aversion to the days news? That's what I post. I don't write it all yet the messenger gets killed. I'm more than ready to debate anytime.
