I think hes got talent but like hes found out by underachieving at ND without the right supporting cast hes no better than the last QB taken.
I think Clausen shows promise of being an NFL QB. The good thing for him is that Weis had him in a pro-style offense (in spite of it being dreadful), and that always makes the transition to the NFL a whole lot easier than a guy coming into the NFL who ran the option in college (which is basically the "wildcat"). Honestly, it's VERY tough to predict which guys will be successful or not. Joe Montana was a third round pick out of Notre Dame and he turned out pretty well. Brady was a 6th round pick out of Michigan while Ryan Leaf was the first or second overall pick when he came out. There are a ton of guys in college who are "stud" players who simply aren't good enough to play at the next level. Conversely, there are guys who are better suited for the pro game and flourish when they get there.
