I think “The Avengers” was a huge accomplishment but yet the Marvel heroes don’t have the same type of archetypal weight that the big three DC characters have, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. They just don’t. My grandmother has no relationship with Spider-Man or Thor or Iron Man. Maybe if those characters continue for another 40 years people will start to have that, but I think Batman and Superman will always have the edge in terms of pop culture. A lot of people say that the Superman symbol is the second most recognized symbol in the world other than the cross. A lot of people recognize the Spider-Man symbol, but it doesn’t have the same kind of weight that the Superman symbol does.
Close your eyes....
Zack Snyder walks out to MOS film footage. Crowd applauds. Zack thanks the crowd and tells them how AWESOME the film was accepted and opens up fan-questions for his segment. Once the Q & A is over, he announces he brought somebody with him.
...Hans Zimmer Man of Steel theme plays. Cavill walks out in his suite. Crowd goes ape****. Cavill comes out, doesn't say a word. He stands there, spotlight on him. He turns his head, and looks up on the wall. The theater goes dark. All of a sudden, the Bat-Signal shines on the wall with a "WORLDS FINEST" font beneath it. People in the crowd pass out.
/end dream.
Superman's Influence
On the 75th anniversary of his introduction, Superman remains America's most enduring hero, says author Larry Tye, who'll discuss how he's influenced U.S. history by giving America the guts to wage war against Adolf Hitler and the Ku Klux Klan, and looking to space for otherworldly possibilities.

Considering those two films were massively outgrossing MOS in their opening weekends(mu almost doubling mos' figure to what I think I'm reading now) it says something about staying power and fall off's. That is if one considers WWZ and MU solid successful blockbusters.
If Pacific Rim falls under MoS that will be something interesting, considering PRim is a film WB pulled MOS out of iMax for.

Don't read into it too much. MoS hit the dollar cinemas last week. That's always a little bump.

YoungJRNY wrote:I suppose you guys are right(though I'd have to see some sort of stats on the effects of "dollar theaters" doesn't sound all that lucrative). I do have a respect for circumstances though.
YoungJRNY wrote:I accepted MOS' second weekend circumstances and I should accept these circumstances. Gaining less than a quarter of the theaters both of your competitors lose does amount to something but regardless, MOS has made a killer in the dollar theaters, which I'm hearing lost 61 theatres, which perhaps is foolish given how it's doing fairly well in the "dollar theaters." Regardless, Man of Steel, givin' the competition and blockbuster movies being released weekly over the summer, has fought in the face of losing significant amount of screens. Anyway, this about concludes the BO. Looking forward to WF with a full head of steam.

verslibre wrote:It's not the same as that. They should have gone with a lesser known or, hell, UNknown actor. B.A. just feels...wrong for this role. Whether it's his horrible turn as Daredevil or that deer-in-headlights look we sometimes have to endure, he just doesn't come off as a dude who's intense enough to play Batman. I think we may be in danger of Clooney, Part Deux.![]()
They should've gone with Karl Urban.

He was just stuck in a shitty movie quipping cheeky one liners. Val Kilmer, for me, never connected. Bale is the best Bruce Wayne of all time.

Seriously, I know you're a Bat-fan more than anything and Bat-fans' first reactions were always going to be this, but lets not get TOO out of hand with the Clooney comparisons. I think that is downright ridiculous to even think of such a thing.
Though, I WILL NOT LIE. If there was EVER an actor that I wanted to pummel and stop-sign (if nobody knows what a stop-sign is, it's a swift KNEE TO THE FACE) was Ben Affleck. They are going to have to sculpt the cowl to unbelievable lengths as well because Affleck's head is absolutely GIGANTIC.
Other than that, I'm a "glass is half-full" type person by nature and can see the direction if they can knock this out of the park. The suicide notes left around the world must mean that this could, potentially, be a great signing in the end, haha.
We'll see in '15.
