Hedley! (I adore Jacob) And yes - the whole moose, beaver, et al thing was great! We absolutely have no problem making fun of ourselves.

Hey no one makes fun of Canada's beer or it's hockey. It's still the best place to live in the world. Yes, Canada.

You need to dress up your av with a Canadian Olympic hockey jersey (#87 of course!)

Heck, The Pens are always on the Sunday game of the week...if not them, it's always the Red Wings, Rangers, Capitols and Flyers..

Actually, I started watching hockey again when the Penguins were in the playoff finals and lost the cup in 2008. So 2009, I started at the beginning of the playoffs, and watched the penguins work their way to the finals and WIN the cup  This year I have graduated to actually watching seasonal Pens hockey games here and there since it started. I caught the Sunday game between the Penguins and Redwings a few weeks or so back! Im not very good at checking the schedule, but if I come across one when I'm home, I watch. The playoffs add a lot more excitement though I guess!

Funny thing is that I got my girls into it now. Last year they sat through every playoff game with me. My son pops in now and then. My husband has no interest, though he did watch the game today with us, with a laptop in front of him, but he did watch  My girls want to see a Pens game in Tampa someday, so I need to make sure we do, maybe next season. And my 10 year old daughter wants to take hockey lessons  In Florida that is very expensive so Im hoping she kind of moves on from that, but we'll see. I guess she could try the skating lessons they offer for it first, so she can see if she even likes being on ice  She's only ice skated once and it was a year ago for 2 hours

That's great to hear re: your hockey daughter.

I am starting Wyatt next year when he turns three. He digs it on TV. He can't quite say Canada, so he says, "Canda."

The Hockey package on Cable is only 30 bucks now for the rest of the season. You can watch every single game...it's an awesome deal. I drive Lula nuts because that's all I ever have on the tube. Oh and Lynn, you can watch Hockey Night in Canada. It is a religious experience. EVERY Canadian watches EVERY Saturday night. You can view the great Don Cherry. He is the guy who wears the colourful jackets..you know him if you saw him. Priceless, and you get to see all the Molson commercials.

She was BEGGING me to let her try hockey lessons last week, and what comes on, a freaking Walmart commercial with a mom and a little girl who is wearing hockey gear. The mom is going on about how she saves her pennies at walmart so when her daughter needs her new gear and blah blah blah and they show the little girl skate onto the ice and GUESS WHOSE LAST NAME IS ON THAT JERSEY!! Yes, ours   What a way to lay the guilt on me  It was some kind of omen maybe

My friend up in Erie has 2 of her boys in hockey and the younger one started at 4, he's 6 now. They love it! It's amazing how such little guys can do so well. I think kids have a better center of gravity!

You don't start with hickey lessons...you start with just skating. Take her to skate, skate and skate. If she doesn't like skating, then it is all for not. Hockey is really expensive Lynn. Fully padded uniform- shin guards, pants(padded), garter and socks, shoulder pads and helmet will cost you 4-500 bucks. However, a pair of skates to start out? Maybe about 75 bucks for a simple pair of Bauers. Make sure you get hockey skates though, not figure skates, as there is a difference. The good thing about buying skates versus renting them is you can take care of them whereas the rentals are always dull and beaten up. Sharp skates are so important.

Try www.hockeymonkey.com

These skates here costs 59.99. Great starter skates.

For your sake, as a hockey mom, I hope there is a rink nearby. You need to skate as much as you can, and if you can't get to the ice, roller blade. It will keep the leg muscles in shape. She will find out a big difference in roller versus ice...in roller you circle and circle. Ice skates you stop on a dime. It's quite the difference. Ice is so much more fun.

LOL, they were just saying on the news that Stephen Harper will soon be receiving a case of beer from Obama. Haha guess they had a friendly little bet on todays game.

From what they showed today a good portion of celebrities were at the game today rooting for Canada.....well, except Vince Vaughn, looks like he had a US jersey on.

Thanks for the info in case we do pursue it! The problem is I live in florida!! We have one place, the RDV Sportsplex, here in our whole area of Florida. There are no other ice rinks anymore near me at all. And it would be a 25 to 30 minute drive each way. And I looked it up already and what they do before they can join the hockey youth league is they have to go through these skating lessons. No sticks or pucks, but they wear their hockey skates and I think helmets. And they basically teach them the basics of hockey skating. It's not cheap though. I think $120 for once a week, 45 min, for 8 weeks. When you are ready to join the actual league, they have 2 seasons, winter and spring. Spring is cheaper. I think it was about $290 for 8 weeks? and you practice a couple days a week with sunday games. Plus the fees you pay the national youth hockey league, whatever that may be. PLUS all the gear  I just don't know if we can do it. I was kind of hoping she's get away from the idea, but she's been drawing pics of hockey gear all week in a sketch book

That place has a "try hockey for free day" for kids coming up THIS saturday, and neither of us can get her there :x Hopefully they will have another one. I'll have to keep checking the site. I was thinking maybe we'll start with her skating lessons first, and doing some skating on her own like you said, and then if she's still serious, then next season let her try it with the youth league. Maybe we can save some money by then  She's my athlete. She just loves it. She plays soccer every year and then gets so upset when it's over because she has no other sport. I need to get her into SOMETHING, that's for sure.

I did not watch the whole game... but WOW... that 3rd period was pretty much the best hockey ever... that I have witnessed on TV...
and I will add that HD makes hockey that much more watchable on tv...as you see a wider area of the ice rink about what is going on with out the puck!! That USA lost is NOT that big a deal in the USA, except for the players... I feel for them... but the USA did not implode... NOW CANADA if they lost would have effected their mojo for a long time!! Looking forward to the 2014 games... lots
of plots will be going on between now and then...

That game?.......I watched most of the hockey match ups and
it happened in heaps and high sticks for all of them.
The same could be said for the ladies games as well, hardly many penalty minutes.
