Kanye West, although I wouldn't go so far as to call him an "artist" by any stretch.

Him too... Kanye West is not only an idiot, but the most dangerous kind of idiot... an incredibly popular idiot who thinks everything he says is relevant, profound, and smart, and has the means to get these absurdly stupid statements out to a great number of people.

Haha I like at least one song from over half the people listed in this thread.

As for me, I have never liked anything from Black Eyed Peas or Taylor Swift (who I'm only remembering because of her VMA incident tonight).

[C]Rappers............all of them. Although I will make an exception for Run DMC on Walk This Way with Aerosmith. That was kind of fun.

Meatloaf. All that theatrical piano based stuff. Enough already.

The Trash, erm, I mean Clash.

Spice girls.

The Sex Pistols.

Lily Allen.

Not fussed about Barbra Streisand either - except I do kind of like "Second Hand Rose"

Mariah Carey. Stop the hand waving and the singing seventeen notes when one will do. Just sing the bloody song straight for goodness sake.

I can't name names simply because I don't like trashing someone else's muisical taste.

However, I will say that I'm completely disgusted by male country singers, (they all sound alike to me) and especially the ones that sing through their noses. That NEVER sounds good.

I'm not a fan of the screaming rock singers either or hard core rap.

But I'll give anything else a chance.

Whaaaaaaaat?

Ok, so I can see how death metal can be seen as an atrocity-- I barely like any of it myself, and if I do like it, it always has other elements in it-- but there's a LOT of good speed/thrash metal in my opinion. Some of it even cleanly sung, like early Anthrax, early OverKill, early Queensryche (as in, their first EP), Heathen.... Then again, I'm the baby of the board I think, and I've been listening to metal since forever, so...

And why Tracy Chapman? She sounds kinda like a dude, but her voice is nice anyway, and she writes nice, acoustic-based songs... :?

I can see how death metal can be seen as that. Not my favorite metal subgenre, but definitely has some really talented bands out there for those who are up for a listen. There are a few of them that I actually really like, too.

I also wanna bet that none of those "atrocities" have ever been actually listened to before making that statement. Most likely heard, then stereotyped and written-off as noise. So glad I opened my ears at an early age.

Oh yeah, and Joey Belladonna's (Anthrax singer from the 80's) voice tends to be compared to Steve Perry's quite often, yet another reason not to hastily write off such a diverse subgenre. Thrash and speed metal are definitely a great safe outlet for aggression when you're really pissed off, too.

I don't get the whole Joey Belladonna = Steve Perry thing. If anything, he reminds me more of Steve WALSH, either that, or the singer in Styx who sings Renegade and Blue Collar Man. Not sure which one that one is, because I don't really listen to Styx all that much at all. Anyway, Joey would be a good singer if he wasn't as pitchy. As it is, though, he's alright. Just not in the same league as Steve Perry at all.

Geoff Tate, however... in his prime, I'd put him right up there with the best, along with Steve. 8)

Ditto. There's actually a lot of REALLY good rap out there, if you aren't looking in the typical "money and bitches"/ringtone rap category. That stuff is still awful. Though, I shouldn't really talk because I lump all Emo together. But I defend it, because everything I've heard has been whiny enough to annoy me greatly. Sad, too, because some of those bands have some really talented musicians.

Was going to say "boats and hoes" instead of "money and bitches", but I didn't want to demean the greatest comedy ever that is Step Brothers. For those who don't know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8T095mFdW8

When I said "all bands" and "atrocities" I was referring to those who made my ears bleed with their unintelligible guitar solos and lyrics, with the horrendous growls and burps that they called "singing".....yup, useless noise.
I once liked Anthrax but only in small doses.
Queensryche is a whole different ballgame. They are art and they will never annoy me.

Tracy Chapman? Her music and voice is monotonous and boring to my ears. Sorry.

We were talking about what personally annoys us, right?

Ah. To me, understanding lyrics isn't a requirement for enjoying music. Sometimes it's even better if it takes some time to "figure out" the lyrics. I tend to like the thrash/speed metal that you get something new out of each listen. I like that with pretty much any genre, really. That's why I tend to not like a lot of radio rock/pop/rap/etc. because it's too much "what you hear is what you get" on the first listen. Every now and then it works, but more often than not it really doesn't for me. I like material that you have to delve into. More fulfilling. Yes, we are talking about what personally annoys us. That's why I try to be very careful and throw in "in my opinion", etc. to my posts when dealing with topics like this.

Now you know I would have to comment on this!!! After batting 1000 on your taste in music, you diss Meat Loaf of all people. Sorry Dean, but this comment deserves an ass kicking on many levels. First of all, has anyone even seen Meat Loaf lately? Long hair is gone, he's lost weight, he wears suits for goodness sake! Even if I put aside the way he looks since beauty's in the eye of the beholder, "not a real artist"? Over 60 million albums sold world wide and playing sold out areans all over US and UK, makes him a very real artist to millions. Thought you liked Meat Loaf too, what gives???
