I'm hearing that Boston is at the top of the Ubaldo Jimenez sweepstakes...Colorado is seriously looking to unload him...makes sense now why Theo wasn't in the Beltran talks....

They need another SP more than they need anything else at this point and, though Jimenez started poorly, he's pitched fairly well lately.

The Yanks, Sox, Reds, Tigers and Indians are still involved in talks...It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Yanks swoop in at the last second and grab him.

In his defense, no one's ever started 2-10 like the Sox did and gone on to win the World Series. That being said, the Sox also came back from a three games to nothing deficit and down in game four to win the series against the Spankees in '04.

Even worse, the 1914 Boston Braves were 3-16 after 19 games and then finished the season at 94-59 and won the NL pennant by 10 1/2 games. They won the World Series by sweeping the Philadelphia Athletics. This year the Sox are too loaded with talent to not win the AL East. Even after their horrendous start I still predicted a playoff berth. How could one not, as baseball is a marathon season and a game of streaks.

They lead the majors in every offensive category except HRs...too bad they are short on pitching. Buchholz is seeing a back specialist on Monday....so Jimenez would help. Although coming from the JV league to the usual toughest division in the league may be too much.

The Sox are nuts if they give away much for Jiminez. The reality is that if you look at the guys numbers since he started off 14-1 last season, he really hasn't been a very good pitcher. It's a large sample size, given that it's almost 40 starts. I'd certainly take the guy over the Mr. Human Injured List (i.e. Eric Bedard), but I wouldn't give any big names away for him.

As for the Buchholz thing...this (his visit to a "specialist") is being completely orchestrated based on the fact that the trading deadline is on Sunday. They simply don't want it to be public knowledge that this guy may be done for the season, as the asking price for pitching would go through the roof if any team knew they were desperate for an arm. There is zero chance that the Red Sox don't know what is going on with Buchholz, given how many doctors he has already been seen by.

I still think the Phillies are the favorite to win it all, because their pitching staff is filthy. That said, the Red Sox are plenty good enough, as constituted, to advance to The World Series. I just watched the Giants win it all last season, with just two good pitchers and ZERO hitting.

I think it's a good move. That guy's a pretty good hitter and handy at several positions. He hits better than Scutaro and fields much better than Lowrie.

That being said, they do need pitching more than hitting and I hope they still land someone.

Cleveland? I can't imagine that Jimenez is entirely thrilled with that.

One of my first posts on my blog... http://davesdominion.wordpress.com/2008 ... e-at-bush/

Image

In Baghdad, a man identified as an Iraqi journalist tossed his shoes at President Bush earlier today. Bush was able to dodge the shoes. The man, Muntadhar al-Zaidi, was dragged away while saying “This is a farewell … you dog!” He currently remains in custody while the Iraqi judiciary decides whether or not he will face charges for assaulting Iraqi President al-Maliki, who was standing next to Bush.

In related news, the pitching-starved Baltimore Orioles have tendered a one-year offer to al-Zaidi on condition of his release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but it is speculated that the Orioles may agree to trade one million euros (since the dollar has been devalued) and one thousand unused burkhas to the Iraqi government in exchange for al-Zaidi’s freedom. The Iraqi government is not commenting at this time but is rumored to be looking into a possible trade with Palestinian authorities on a Zaidi for suicide bomber exchange.

When asked about the possible deal with the Orioles, al-Zaidi commented that “I’m not sure about the Orioles but I am open to it since the American League is known as a junk-ball league, so it fits my style better.” Oriole officials are tight-lipped but Orioles owner, Peter Angelos, is considering a three-way deal with Iraq and the New York Yankees if they are willing to put George Steinbrenner on the chopping block.

Harden has good stuff...However, he's yet another pitcher who's injured more often than not.

I agree. Stay the fuck away from Harden, Bedard and every other fuck who can't get through 2 starts with elbow or shoulder soreness. Ultimately, trading Lars isn't really a big deal, because with Adrian Gonzalez locked up long term, the guy has no position with the big league club.

So much for that. It was just announced that the Red Sox have acquired Harden, pending a physical.

Well, here's hoping...Lars has been an underachiever even at the minor league level and they have Gonzalez anyway, so I guess they really aren't losing much in the long run.
