Are you talking about the thing started by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck? Feast was only the second or third — and LAST — movie to get made under that banner. I wonder why.

Put the right talent in writing, producing and directing any property and release the budget required to properly make the movie, and you may well end up with a critically-lauded and popular film that will rope in fans. Too often however, they are going cheap and/or non "A-list" casting without a great script to begin with and you end up with a bunch of films like Ghost Rider--which was an embarrassment to all involved.

No, he was just being an ass. He probably doesn't like guys like Nolan because he knows when better directors and writers are on the scene. And frankly, I'm surprised Batman Begins ever got made considering what a joke the Schumacher flicks turned out to be, batnipples and all.

It was bound to happen eventually, and the success of Spiderman pushed it into the front burner. Batman is one of the top 2 of comic book characters that had made good money on the silver screen historically during the years when very few comic book films were being made. They just got lucky and/or smart, and got the property into the hands of someone who knew what they were doing.

verslibre wrote:Ghost Rider could have been a much better movie. The trailer really sold it. Still a great character if/when they try it again.

There's definitely potential there. Would love to see someone like Alex Proyas or David Fincher do a take on that character. I think you need an atmospheric director to make it work. Doing it campy didn't work very well.

verslibre wrote: The Thomas Jane Punisher film was great, too. Except in that case, the trailer didn't sell it properly, and it flopped.

not helped by the lack of star power in the film either....

I remember when the first Batman came out with Michael Keaton. I was in Japan and the buzz was huge! They played it in special theaters where the seats were like Lazy Boy recliners with speakers in the headrest, freakin' awesome.

The buzz for that movie was big everywhere. Those were (still) the days when we didn't have twenty-screen theaters and they'd show a movie on four screens. We're talking lonnnnng-ass lines!

Uh-huh. You truly expect me to believe that audiences are willing to suspend disbelief over judo-practicing vampire hunters, but somehow draw the line at creatures with protractable jaws? Oooookaaay. It's a monster movie. Sounds like your entourage needs to lighten up, or maybe go re-watch The King's Speech again. Blade 2 was a critical and fan favorite. Part 3 was a turkey, featuring an urbanized version of Dracula wearing gold chains, that looked more like the general manager at a Gold's gym. You may hate Blade 2 - personally I've never seen a bad Del Toro movie - but your opinion is in the minority.

verslibre wrote:Right. Who cares, except you liked it enough to pay to see it four times.

I enjoyed it. I did not demand a refund due to monster prosthetics that may or may not have been inspired by HR Giger's work in Predator. You could make the argument that the entire film is derivative of Bram Stoker and that Marvel owe's the Stoker estate back royalties. Or, you could act normally, sit back, and enjoy the ride.

Movie sucked. Thankfully, Marvel exerted more creative control on the sequel and delivered a proper R-rated Punisher film with "War Zone." Great film, which then also flopped. In today's world, the character of The Punisher just comes off as too much of a generic vigilante. Very been there, done that, I guess.

And Batman is a guy with actually no super powers.....just some kid who inherited his father's fortune, became a philanthropist, and gets a guy to invent really cool stuff....

Oh wait, I just described Batman, Green Hornet, Iron Man, and 007.....

Yeh, but most of them have cool costumes. Punisher just wears a skull t-shirt. I like the character, but so far there has been no less than 3 attempts to bring him to the screen. Each one flopped.

If you knew me, you'd have a better idea of the cheesecamp stuff I enjoy. I just couldn't believe a special effect was recycled (no "inspired by" in this case) from a movie franchise barely over a decade old at the time. And like I said, the story sucked.

(Never saw Blade 3. The trauma of Blade 2 was still lingering at the time.)

I think you're confusing Predator with Alien. H.R. Giger's designs were used for the latter.

Yeah, the first movie with Dolph sucked. The reboot with Thomas Jane kicks ass. (Still haven't seen Punisher: War Zone.)

Thought Giger did both. Guess not.

Both the Dolph and Jane version were weak to me. War Zone is a gory blast, tho it veers a little too far into camp at some points.

How's the Jane version weak? What's not badass about tying a guy's leg to the bumper of a car and releasing the parking brake — and then shit starts blowing up all around him?

I don't remember what it was rated, but it felt like a PG-13 to me. Very little in the way of carnage. Jane even ends up befriending a ragtag group of misfits that live in his apt. complex. I saw it in theatres. It lacked balls. "Death Sentence" with Kevin Bacon was more of a proper Punisher flick than the namby pamby Jane version. War Zone rocked. Like Blade 2, it's one of the best comic flicks ever made.

I read that, but the last one flopped so bad. It didn't even find an audience on dvd. Maybe they'll try the character again, this time on the small screen. The last two HULK movies performed underhwelmingly so now Marvel is doing the TV route too.

What are they bringing to TV?

First Hulk bit the long donk. Amazingly, I found The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton pretty solid. He was a much better Banner (and they've already replaced him with Mark Ruffalo for the Avengers movie).

I appreciate what Ange Lee tried to do with the first one, but it remains a boring, if interesting misfire. Really enjoyed the 2nd one. Wish Norton had stayed on.

Yea...the second Hulk was far superior to the first, and one of my fav. superhero movies. I also enjoyed Punisher War Zone. That movie was more close as what he is supposed to be.

Punisher: WZ is fantastic. Shame it bombed. Worse yet, unlike some overlooked gems, it has yet to gain a devoted cult audience on dvd. Maybe in time.

The story for the second Hulk was better, but the Hulk himself, was more like the comics in the first movie. The first movie had the strength, mood, and the feel of the Hulk, just that the story was very weak. Hilk fighting giant dogs, really, this is what they came up with?

Captain America and Thor looks good for Marvel, as does Green Lantern for DC. Superman? I don't know yet, og all the villians Supes has, they are gonna bring back the villians from the second movie. Why? Might as well bring Lex back too.
