It happened before, in Batman Returns.

Both villains needed to be popular characters and big names because Nicholson's Joker was beyond legendary so following up with big names and characters such as DeVito and Phiffer as the Penguin and Catwoman was a must. Still, BR felt more like Batman was still the attraction while TDK and TDKR is villain frenzied within the audience's expectations. I'll forever think Keaton's Batman is by far the best rendition of the character, even in the respective time period.

And it's still better than seeing an actor come off as a ghost of another actor who played the part a squillion times better (Routh/Reeve).

I never said it wasn't. I hated everything about Superman Returns if that's what you're trying to get at. Comparing ANYBODY to Reeve is downright SUICIDE. Batman is a masked man. Superman tis who he is, up-front and personal. It's much harder casting Clark Kent than it is Bruce Wayne. Also, even though Routh was cast correctly for what SR was supposed to be, he never even had the chance to act on top of Reeve's performance anyhow. The whole project that is Superman Returns was scrapped out of continuity for a reason. Enter Henry Cavill.

Clooney outright sucked. Joke city. Kilmer was pretty solid as both.

You're going to give Clooney the benefit of the doubt by just mentioning him in this thread? Batman and Robin should be condemned to hell for all of eternity and rot in agonizing nothing-ness. Shoemacher really pissed on the Bat character and its ash's. For me, the only Batman movies that exist are Batman (possibly one of my ALL-TIME favorite movies), Batman Returns, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and soon to be The Dark Knight Rises.

but he obviously forgot about Superman and Captain America, who are probably the most vanillafied straight arrows in comics ever.

I don't think any character is boring. It's who is putting the keys into the ignition that makes a hero either boring or spectacular. Unfortunately for Supes, nobody wants to take his story to the next level and mess with his incredible continuity as a character. Enter Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder.

And yes, it's always cool to see who the villain is going to be. That's at least half the draw, isn't it?

More than half IMHO. If I had to say, I'd say around 90%+ after the first flick is finished.

I want to see some hot ass babes playing Wonder Woman, Huntress and Zatanna next. And for Marvel bring on Carol Danvers, aka Ms. Marvel, and Enchantress.

Rumored Wonder Woman, Flash, Captain Marvel, Green Lantern (try it again, DC) & freaking LOBO (!!!!) movies are all in the making as we speak. Lobo. How BADASS!

Catwoman was a given but Burton could have (should have) gone with Hugo Strange or another more "threatening" villain. There's a reason Nolan didn't want to use characters like Penguin and Riddler — a damned good reason.

There you go. They thought they made a solid casting choice and this time even the actor wasn't exempt from the movie being a grade-S stinker. The costumes, the plot, the villain (Ahnuld made Mr. Freeze funny, and he's not supposed to be funny)...everything blew.

Would you believe there are fans who want to see Jon Hamm be the next BatWayne? Holy crap, that's going to be Clooney Part Deux. Just say no!!

YoungJRNY wrote:Batman and Robin should be condemned to hell for all of eternity and rot in agonizing nothing-ness. Shoemacher really pissed on the Bat

For better or for worse, he tried to make Batman gay. Yes, I have the cojones to say that. At least on this forum I won't get banned for it. I think.

And Bryan Singer? We know about him, too, don't we?

There are certainly boring characters (though I was playing it from Gideon's PoV, since he thinks Batman's boring, which I find perturbing). Some creators come along and initiate changes which improve the characters to varying degrees. I like the Ultimates version of Cap, particularly the costume. Avengers-Cap's costume should have resembled his a little bit more, though they at least left the wings off. With The Man Of Steel, we're finally going to get a Supes who's far less vanilla than any previous screen incarnation. Zack's keeping a tight lid on things, but that much is obvious.

No GL movie. If we see him again, it'll be in a JLA movie. I think the next thing we may get, after yet ANOTHER Batman reboot, is a World's Finest-styled film. Then a JLA movie.

I'd rather see Aquaman than Flash. Dwayne Johnson is playing Lobo.

I actually missed mentioning Aquaman but he's in the works as well. Aquaman is that type of Iron Man character that could very well surprise at the box office if he's done right. So many cool things you can do with him, especially as an underwater Super Hero fighting underwater-type villainy. That could be visually stunning.

So, a handful of critics issued a negative review of the film and were met with death threats. Apparently the reaction has been so hostile that Rotten Tomatoes had to lock their comment function for the foreseeable future, preventing fans from responding to critics' reviews.

And I thought Loons were bad.

Fucking ridiculous.

The last 3-D movie I saw was Avatar and I really got the full effect of it. There are some people who cannot see in 3-D. By any chance, are you one of them? I don't feel "ripoff" is the proper term, but I do believe everyone's individual experiences may vary.

Yeah, Avatar was the very first movie I saw in 3D and it looked great. People probably blind in one eye can't see the full effects of it though I bet.

Get ready to FEAST your eyes on future greatness. The HIGHLY ANTICIPATED teaser-trailer for 'Man of Steel' will be shown exclusively before the last Batman flick.

Re-arrange your brain and destroy the 'Big Blue Boy Scout' moniker and the campiness of what Christopher Reeve brought to Superman in 1978. This deep & emotional re-imagining of the worlds most iconic legend is not only going to redefine Superman's status as THEE super-hero, but accomplish the feat of being 2013's most BADASS character in ANY genre. 'Man of Steel' will define the DC NATION. You heard it here first.

Okay, Overlord of Hyperbole.

If it's the same teaser they showed at Comic-Con, it really doesn't show that much. What you'd expect to see in a Supes trailer, you'll see, with the exception of a couple images. If there's another villain in there (not Zod), Zack's keeping a lid on him/her/it for now.

P.S. I'm much more excited about Guillermo Del Toro's film, Pacific Rim. Giant mechs vs. kaiju! Fuuuck yeahhhh!!!

Well, it's a teaser-trailer so all you're really going to see is the set mood and direction of the franchise and a quick compilation of scenes in the movie. Snyder is still VERY tight lipped about everything. There is talk about the Kryptonian-race as we've never seen before.

I saw the teaser from Comic-Con. It was chilling to me in every sense of the word. The build-up through the music (The Red Line) is phenomenal. This is certainly going to be a Superman for a new age. The insane amount of positive reviews from the audience and the instant buzz it has created is easily skyrocketing its potential as next years huge summer Blockbuster.

There's a handful of negative reviews. I heard the same thing about the death threats. That's totally insane, lmao.

On Rotten Tomatoes, as of Tuesday afternoon the film has notched 86% positive reviews, though the few opposing takes have ignited controversy. After the first negative review appeared on the site, by critic Marshall Fine, the resulting response on the site's comment section led to a response from Rotten Tomatoes editor-in-chief Matt Atchity condeming "threats and hate speech," and the eventual temporary disabling of comments on all Dark Knight Rises reviews, positive or negative.

Those less impressed with The Dark Knight Rises include Christy Lemire of the Associated Press, saying that "the feeling of frustration and disappointment is unshakable," and that the movie failed to meet the expectations set by The Dark Knight. Later in the review, Lemire deems the film "flat-out boring at times," targeting Nolan as being "so coldly cerebral that it’s a detriment to the film’s emotional core."

A brand-new original hardcover graphic novel called Batman: Earth One arrives next week (Wednesday). DC has distributed a free preview that contains the first chapter. Once again, no Robin (thankfully) as this is a self-contained story by Geoff Johns about the very beginning of Batman's career. It looks to be very different from what Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, Frank Miller (and hence, Christopher Nolan) and others have done thus far.

The art by Gary Frank looks fantastic, and the guy also draws a great Clark/Supes, so here you go, YoungJRNY. :D

Hell yeah, dude. Gary Frank is one of my all-time favorite artists. His creations are sweet, sweet eye-candy and he draws a MEAN rendition of Reeve's Superman. That picture was from Superman: Secret Origins. As for Batman: Earth One, that looks FANTASTIC. I love the plot, especially Alfred's backstory as well. Very intriguing. Superman: Earth One came out 2 years ago and I believe the second one is on its way in the fall maybe. Can't wait.

Did you hear about the Joker's return in September? They actually warned readers because he's going to be so downright frightening. A re-imagining of Joker since I guess he got his face ripped off in his last appearance. I'll be getting both Batman: Earth One and check out the first issue with the return of the Joker.

Yeah, the Joker's return is the next big thing after the wrap of the Court of Owls. The concluding battle between BatBruce and March was badass. (Greg Capullo's another of my favorite Bat-artists.)

Did you read the preview of B:E1?? The one you can get at shops is longer than the online preview. You get the entire first chapter. The opening sequence where Batman's grappling gun malfunctions and then he misses the ledge of the building and plunges all the way down into a pile of trash bags was whack. Even more whack was seeing him drive away in a sedan!

Not the trailer. This was only the "introduction" teaser. Big things on the big screen as far as action footage probably won't be released until Thanksgiving or December (the people at Comic-Con got the GOODS. That footage was simply AMAZING & gave me chills.) People loved the teaser and are ecstatic for Superman again. It's been a VERY, VERY long time. Marketing is JUST beginning.

I'll be seeing RISES tonight. The World's Finest on the big screen (Supes teaser, BEGINS) is just KILLER to me. KILLER! I can't sit still.

I hope this Superman is great. Been dying for one since Superman 2.

wow, the Man of Steel preview actually looks really good, which is surprising to me.
I never liked the Superman movies, except for maybe the one where Superman lost his powers (Superman II?).
Hated the cast (other than CR, Gene Hackman was wasted with a lamely-written Lex Luthor) and hated the over-the-top comic bookiness of it all. To me they made those movies nearly as corny as the 60s Batman series. I just never thought they were great though everyone raves about them. The last Superman movie was just so bad...
Having said that, I think the best portrayals of the story have come from Smallville, though they definitely took liberties with the characters and the whole Lana thing took up way too much of it. That Luthor guy and That Clark Kent guy were really good when that show was at its peak, and when the writers were writing good stuff. Once Luthor left (and even a bit before that) it started to sink.
