[quote="Fact Finder"]Dang, did anyone hear NY Gov. Cuomo on the news drone on and on about global warming? This shit is getting on my last nerve. There have been 84 tropical or sub-tropical hurricanes to hit NY since the 17th Century, with the strongest believed to be in 1938. These global warming gasbags need to stick it in their asses and STFU already!

You are just as much of an idiot to deny that Global Warming exists as others are for using ONE STORM as evidence that it does.

You cherry pick your 'evidence', they cherry pick there's. But, when you look at the big picture of everything, it's undeniable that the earth has been warming up.

I would say 'get over it', but it's worthless. To conservatives, it's a political issue, not a scientific one.

It's unreal. Lots of stations are closed because they don't have power to run the pumps. The ones that are open all look like this.

Lines on the Garden State Parkway are miles long leading to the rest stops. And those people with their gas cans...that little gas won't run a generator for too long.

And, instead of finding real solutions for energy independence, Republicans only want to open up more oil drilling in the US...Well, except for Romney who now says he wants to support all of these alternative fuels...until he has to face his Republican base and he has to change his words yet again.

I remember back in 03 when florida had 4 hurricanes in one damn year. I learned after the first one to have a as much gas as possible and a generator. After

the first one came and went it was like being in Cambodia. Hot and humid, mosquitos and you think being with out power is a bitch, being with out water is 3

times worse. I got by with candles and flashlights, but not being able to wash and having to constantly walk out to the gulf to fill up buckets to flush the fucking

toilet was a pain in the ass. We didn't get the power or water turned back on until 2 and a half weeks later. It fucking sucked donkey balls big time! After things

returned to normal, I went out and bought 2 of the best generators you can get (one for back up cause there was no way I was going to go thru that scenario

again), and 2, 5 gallon gas cans and 2 window AC units. Now when I now a storm is coming and there's no doubt in my mind, those gas cans get filled, ICE is

bought. I also bought and have stored water in my shed, like a shitload. I'm never going unprepared and enduring that shit again.

I was young then, but remember it well. We had a station wagon, and my mom used to take me and my sister in the station wagon with coloring books and other things to do. She rarely gave us candy, but always bribed us with a candy bar of our choice if we were good the whole time. I remember the gas stations having a red or green flag out to indicate whether they had gas or not.

But speaking of even and odd days, gas rationing is back here in NJ, starting tomorrow. Even and odd days will be used.

A lot of stations have full tanks in the ground, but no electricity to pump the gas up into the pumps, to power the pumps, or to process credit card transactions. I filled my tank the day before the storm and have a short ride to work, of which I am thankful.

From what I've read in the news today, it looks like another storm in heading to this same area that was hit last week.

We do have a nor'easter expected to pass through here on Wednesday and into Thursday. Could be significant amounts of rain, heavy winds, coastal flooding, and maybe some snow.

What makes that so bad is the current situation from the last storm. Had that last storm never taken place, this new storm wouldn't have been so bad.

Agreed. About 1/3 of my township is still without power and many roads are impassable due to trees being down. The schools have been closed since last Monday. There are many trees and tree limbs that were damaged during Sandy but didn't come down, so they may come down pretty easily when the winds pick back up.

I live on Staten Island, one of the hardest hit areas. I can't even put into words the devastation here. Most of the blocks along the shore are piled 20 ft. high down both sides with peoples entire lives that were destroyed. Houses were leveled, boats are in peoples front yards, they were still pulling and finding bodies as of a day ago. As a 2nd generation lifelong Islander, this is truly heartbreaking. Places that have been around my whole life (I'm 45) are gone. And the Red Cross just got here this weekend. The way the community has pulled together is astounding tho, amazing to see everyone pull together for once and see neighbor helping neighbor. Thankfully I live in a safe area that didn't get flooded. I don't know how we're going to survive this Nor'easter headed for us on Wednesday.

For whatever reason, I think of the issue that happened in Japan in March of '11 when I read your description of the devastation on Staten Island.

"In one of NYC’s darkest hours, with resources stretched thin in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Michael Bloomberg is showing his priorities with a ban on food donations to homeless shelters. No, not because of food contamination, but because the city can’t properly assess salt, fat and fiber in donated food and thereby ensure starving people are getting the optimal levels of nutrition".

What is he thinking? It's better to die from starvation then from HBP? This

The first mistake I head he made was to say that he would not stop the New York Marathon because of Sandy. Then somehow it didn't happen, and some of the runners were helping out the Sandy victims. New Yorkers should start a recall petition to get this nut out of the mayor's office. I feel Bloomberg doesn't have his constituents on his mind, only his agenda. He should of been first up to get emergency crews in, etc. (This rant is my opinion only. If there is New Yorker here on MR, please respond to this article on the Mayor. Tell us what you are going through)

One thing I've been noticing is there isn't much of any donation drives happening in the area that I'm at in Ca. I would think that with the horrible situation on the East Coast and at this time of the year when the weather is so bitter and the holidays coming up, that there would be some donation drives set up for the West Coast to help the East Coast out. Sure the logistics would be something, but how hard would it be to ship out truck loads of goods from this self proclaimed great state of Ca and deliver it to the East Coast? I know that if a huge disaster happened on the West Coast it sure would be nice to get help from the East Coast. Well maybe I'm asking too much. Lets just keep donating to poor people in other countries, while we are at it, lets forget about helping any of the homeless children in America and instead lets gather up a few from other countries and import them here like Madonna.

I'm a native New Yorker, in fact I'm a native Staten Islander, which got hit very hard. As far as Bloomberg goes, personally I'm at the point where I've given up trying to figure out the methods to his madness and just keep waiting for when we can get him out of office. Most of what he does makes no sense to alot of us, and as in the case of the NY Marathon, our response is to rally and publicly voice our distaste in hopes that the decision gets turned around. Thank god the marathon got cancelled. There have been trucks arriving from several different areas of the country and for that we are very grateful. So it is possible to have donations shipped in.

It would be good if someone out there started a petition to have him ousted as the mayor. How much longer does he have until his term is over? And is the vice-mayor, if you have one, any good?
