Where will Dave be in five years?

I think Dave will be successful in Las Vegas playing his Van Halen classics, solo classics & some rock/pop/soul classics becoming as popular as Wayne Newton or become the first rock legend to his own late night talk/variety show on the Spike cable network possibly in the next 5 years or it could be worse due to his health.

Dave will actually go under cover, working as an EMS guy, dressed like one of the brothers from the early solo videos.

I'd go with the Las Vegas Schtick.....it's something he's always wanted to do, and he does it well.
What is wrong with his health, BTW?

Dave may try the Vegas thing, but will fail at it. The man can not sing! He is a good performer back in the day, but it's evening for him now-ERIC

He should play the rock-n-roll blues, thats what he is best at. He can sing the hell out of it, and if he would stand still while singin he'd rock.

He will be retired. Lounging on the Riviera (couch that is). Counting all the money he made on the Van Halen Farewell Tour.

But will he be there in 5 years? I don't think so. I, for one, can only take Dave speaking in small doses. He is pretty crispy.

I feel bad for Dave.. You see the attendance figures over on DefLeppard board.. DLR drew 800 out of 5,000 capacity...oops...I thought people adored this guy. I would like to see what DDY would draw..I would wager Steve perry would draw huge crowds....7-10,000..

People love DLR with VH. He hasn't had a hit song in, what, 12 or 15 years? Everyone knows he is a shadow of his former self, and no one wants to pay to see that.

You know as well as I Perry will never tour again. He is busy looking for a place in Boca Raton.

Oh come on Neal, since when has any band we like ('we' as in classic rock fans) had a 'hit song' or songs?
Surely we all admit 'hit songs' is not what our music is about??

Perry has been a virtual recluse for about the last decade and like Roth, he should probably stay that way.

You are right Kenny, but Neal was speaking of a "noticeable" tune I believe. I loved DLR with VH..I feel bad that he really hasn't aged well, but that happens.

By the way, Perry? Fuck him.. Let him take his goddamned cats and move to Beirut. But he would draw a crowd.. The guy is a mystery.

DLR will be nowhere. He will "appear" occassionally and then disappear again. He will probably get dusted off any time someone wants totalk about the old days cuz the man is 'colorful' but he will have no lasting impact or image in 5 years. IMO

Agree totally. He's been floundering around for years. He's tried the Vegas thing he's tried the blues thing. None of them worked. Let's face it Dave was never a singer, he was a performer, full stop.

wasn't he working as a paramedic??

I sincerely doubt he's hurting for money. He comes from a wealthy family, first of all. Secondly, he has his VH royalties... and he just came off a successful tour with Sammy Hagar a few years ago. He's doing just fine.

Recently he was working "undercover" as an EMT in NYC... in what I consider to be a very noble endeavor. His father was a doctor, so he probably wanted to prove something to himself by doing this.

Even more recent than that, I read on this board that he recently played a few live gigs with his band. Someone posted the receipts for the show, and I was shocked because I thought he was still doing the EMT gig.

As Neal said, there have been rumours that he was in line to become a radio talk show host replacing Howard Stern. But that could just be rumours, because Howard has a guy that comes on his show mimicking DLR, and the rumor could have started because of that. Who knows, only time will tell.

I think DLR should get a hot band together, and record a great rock album. I mean, get some people with chops like he had with the first solo album EAT EM AND SMILE. He lost Eddie, he lost Steve, he lost Billy.... man he has made some BIG mistakes.

Yeah, Eat 'Em and Smile was an awesome album. I can't see him doing anything like that again, though. He looked kind of silly when I saw him on the Sam and Dave tour. He is getting a little long in the tooth to play the wild rock god.

MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm I dunno. I really thought his last 2 albums were very good. Diamond Dave was a nice mix of Rock and the Blues the DLR album flat-out, stone cold SMOKES. Every bit as good as Sam's 10/13 which I also still play a lot.
