I knew last year was the final year. Now, is the ideal time for David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Michael Anthony to get back together and annouce a World Tour.

See you there! :D

Kenny, could you just imagine a Journey/VH tour, with both original singers? It might just bring Rock n roll back into music...

How original? That would exclude Steve Perry.

Well, in the absence of anything more concrete, wishful thinking is OK!!

I'll tell you this, at least he's being positive about the band, and proving himself to be a real fan!!

Where did you get your info, because that isn't what Ed's telling close friends. VH as we know it is done. (Thank God) I wish that they could have left good enough alone, instead of the last tour, that was riddled with inconsistantcy on Ed's part, his social disfunction, which triggered the typical singer vs. VH crap mid-tour.

Eddie and Alex need to give the "guest vocalist" a shot finally. Didn't EVH say he had been writing music the entire time VH was "down"? And they have entertained many other vocalists for the material...so record it and release it!!

If Eddie cannot get and stay sober then VH will never be able to tour.
Sammy won't do it and DLR and EVH would kill each other if neither one has their head on straight!

If, If IF (and that's big considering the fame and money on the table) Sammy's back out they CANNOT go to anther singer. Gotta get Dave back (or worst case try to get Cherone) or hang them up. NOBODY can pull it off with a 4th different signer and I'm not talking about the Eags, or Styx or bands that already do multiple vocalists.

Why would they EVER bring Cherone back? I say let Jeff Scott Soto go to VH, and let Sammy and Neal bring back HSAS. Everyone wins!

SOMEBODY other than me liked Cherone in the role, the album did go gold. He apparently left of his own volition and they had to go crwling back to Sam. The tour was a success and I think if Cherone had given it the time that Sam had given it in the beginning he woulda grown into it. I remember the day they annouced he left was the same day 9-0 and #2 PSU lost to Minnesota on a last second FG. I knew it would set the band and Penn State back for years and I was right.

Not really. I bought it that day it came out. Listened to it for a couple weeks, and it has made a nice coaster ever since. If they reunite with Cherone, I would not buy it, and I suspect MANY other VH fans wouldn't, either.

I heard on the radio someone reading a recent interview with Sammy where he really trashes Eddie, calling him a "miserable person". He said even Alex doesn't talk to him much anymore. Anyone hear about this? Would love to read it.

Oh it's all over the place. Sam's trashing him in every media outlet that will lend him an ear. I checked out a big one on Blabbermouth.net like last week whre he really uncorked on Ed. I think he may be trying to stick a charge up his ass and engineer an intervention through the media. i still think Sam wants in, just to help Ed change, though. After every rip, he says something like "Things would ahve to change for me to go back."

A lot of fans realize that the problem with VHIII was NOT Gary. It was the songwriting. Besides, since it was a coerced partnership, there was NO CHEMISTRY....yet. It could have been a very successful venture had they taken the time to write some damn songs.

Just how bad were the touring profits with Cherone at the helm? If Styx and Journey can stay afloat with new singers why couldn't Van Halen do it? Surely the "Van Halen" name recognition alone and their back catalog would've enabled them to tour succesfully for a few years, right?
Anyone know the answers to this?
Did the brothers' Van Halen pull the plug due to the lukewarm critical and fan reception or were they losing money on tours, as well?
Can anyone fill me in?

I'm researching it, but am coming up with nothing.

Don't go away empty-handed -- here's a violinist playing Eruption. Check it out!

From what I read, the plug was pulled when C walked out of recording the follow up to Van Halen 3. Said Eddie just couldn't keep it together.-ERIC

Cherone was a big part of the problem with VHIII - and so was Ed.

Basically there were three real problems.

1) Cherone tried to sound like Sammy on too many tracks.
2) Ed tried to get Cherone to sound like Sammy.
3) How many say I.

Actually, there was a fourth problem......

4) How many say I.

Eric Abitaman was right. The official word from all involved was that Cherone left in the middle of recording the follow up to III. The tour was plenty successful enough. THe fans came out to hear the oldies, but the album "only" went gold despite a #1 single in W/Out You. I read somewhere that the fan pressure to make an album less like III and more like '84 or FUCK is what got to Cherone so he walked. They had actually laid down a few tracks including Left For Dead, which Cherone then took to his new project Tribe Of Judah. Don't like the TOJ album as a whole but Left For Dead clearly was a great tune and the most VHesque on a weird album. If he hand't walked on those sessions, Cherone might still be there today.

Thanks for the info Abitaman and Red.

Have you guys heard these interview snippets with Eddie from last May? He sounds pretty screwed up. You can tell he's lying when he says he is the only one who wanted to do a full length record instead of just three songs.

I can't get it, NIG. Give us the rundown on the "Song Slection" and "Last Year's Tour" parts and what he said about the full-length album in '04 if it's not in one of those.
