After listening to this gem of an album, I have to say that "Amsterdam" is by far my favourite! (see post below)

Like Amst, 7th Seal too.
But Don't Tell me, IMO is the #1 track on the record. Would love to hear it live. I think this album's pretty underrated actually.

I love this album as well. Very over-looked. I like the darker feel to it, VH needed to do something a little different. In fact, I love the direction they were taking before the whole split. Human's Being is cool and all the new songs they put on GH Vol.1 were cool sounding.

Yep.
Balance, Humans Being and Me Wise Magic/Can't Get This Stuff No More were all like-sounding obviously out of the same era. I like that sound a lot too.

I love this album!

The Seventh Seal is my favorite song off of it. I was really happy that VH played it live last year, when I saw them live. 8)

I like the song "Feelin'" off of the Balance album. But that is just my opinion.

The last 2 posters drummed up great forgotten tracks in Feelin' (hate apostrophes in titles but love these lyrics) and Aftershock (opening is stunning, guitar line throughout has a real dirty chunky feel).

Love it.

I pulled Balance back out because of this thread. I always loved the CD because of the 'darker' feel I got from it. But listening to it now, I would have to say that the first 4 tracks are SOLID! But after that it feels like the wheels fell off. Big Fat Money? Strings Of Joy? The CD stumbles through the middle. The drum solo track is cool and the instrumental track (whatever that name is! :D) is ok. But the flow of the cd suffers. It almost rallies at the end though.

Favorite song

Postby rockeratheart » Wed Oct 05, 2005 7:56 am

I don't know if you are joking about AMsterdam or not.. I am not trying to be a jerk or anything , but that song sounds like a filler song to me and the lyrics are pretty dumb. Even Eddie hated the lyrics to tha one. I love most of the songs on tha album.. I think Feelin' is a really awesome song.. I also love AFTERSHOCK..I love Eddie's guitar playing on that song , too. All three solos--especially the last one

I'm going to qualify my initial post now. (better late than never, eh?)

"Amsterdam" is my favorite track to crank up full blast and just smile while killing my eardrums.

If I had to pick the "best" all-around track, it would be "Don't Tell Me."

Seventh Seal. Great start to the album and awesome vocal. Agree the wheels fall off Balance after the first four tracks. Still love it, anything Hagar does with Halen is worthy stuff regardless. Humans Being kicked ass, the last three new tracks for their second compilation suffered but still good enough!

Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do)...total in your face rocker with an edge. Liked Human's Being for the same reason. Would have been interested to see the direction they would have gone had Sammy stuck around.

Was an odd album for me

Postby locobenno » Fri Dec 02, 2005 1:28 pm

I mean it has some of my favourite VH tracks of all time in Seventh Seal, Don't Tell Me, Aftershock and Feelin', and then has some of the worst in Big Fat Money and Amsterdam. I guess if I dropped those two and then added Humans Being then I'd have a nice little disc...

You know what, I'm gonna go listen to Balance again, I've been playing the new tracks - I love Learning To See, awesome track! - but feel like getting back into their polished stuff. Its been years, wonder if I'll still like it...

Balance is a great rock album in its own right during the Hagar era despite not being F. U. C. K. Amsterdam is my FAVORITE track which kicks ass & is underrated for some reason.

Amsterdam's premise and lyrics are IMO only, the worst but Edward picks the song out of the gutter and carries it with blazing guitar.. the ending little outro fade-out knocks me out every time.

You know, Go Blue, that song is the one I most look forward to hearing and go back to listen again off the album. I keep re-playing it. It's like deja vu all over again!
