Rock Star VH - Fact or Fiction?

Postby NealIsGod » Fri Oct 21, 2005 1:36 am

Andrew reported that his source says, "This is nonsense" about the rumors. But this was on USAToday's website:

Rock talk: Yesterday MTV reported that Van Halen has signed on for the second season of Rock Star. Today, however, it appears the story has been pulled from MTV.com. What's the real deal? I'll keep you posted; it's worth noting that no official announcement was made yesterday, and the band had no comment. Posted 8:21 a.m.

Hmmmmmm... seems like final details are being worked out to me...

Could be true. Similar to this story in our radio prep this morning:

Is Van Halen in line for a second edition of the Rock Star TV series that INXS did for their new lead singer? A source close to the show told MTV.com that Eddie and Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony will use the program to find a new lead singer, if it airs again next year. Rock Star: INXS cohost Dave Navarro wouldn't confirm any details about a possible Season Two, but he did say, "Van Halen would be awesome -- I'd just love to sit and hang with Ed." There's been no public comment from Van Halen or their management regarding future plans.

There's also been speculation about whether Queen or Alice In Chains might do Rock Star, but members of both bands have strongly denied it.

I think Alice in Chains would be a GREAT idea...better then VH.

Yeah, Alice in Chains would be good, but obviously would not garner the ratings that VH would. I can't see Queen doing it, and it is hard to see VH do it. I still don't see why Ed can't get along with Sammy.

I think Ed is one of those controling regimen type of people. Timetables, structure...that is what he seems like to me. Everything is all about ED. Sammy is such a free, fun loving spirit. Maybe Ed is jealous of that. Sammy is the type of person who just wants to go out, make some great music and have a great time. For some reason, if Eddie was ever like that, it's taken a turn in a different direction the last couple of years. Cancer, divorce, he seems to have turned into a sour man.

IMHO...of course.

I don't know about Eddie being structured, but I am sure DLR's goofiness wore on him. You are right abot Sammy. He is carefree and fun, and seems to "get" what living is all about. Eddie does seem to hold grudges and not forgive very easily. Maybe he has let the divorce and cancer ruin his outlook on life. I hope not.

Angie Kay, I do not think that Eddie Van Halen is a regimented, structured person at all based on the hundred or so of interviews I have read with him. But, I do think that he wanted to make MORE albums during the time Sammy was in the band and Sammy was not up for that.

That could be, but I think the experiences and trials in his life the past few years have changed him...I think it would change anyone. It's the vibe I get from him NOW. He was probably(like the rest of us) a completely different person ten, fifteen years ago. I think where he is NOW compared to the rest of the band is not a 'moving foward musically focused' place.

I agree with all you have written. He is completely different. He still knows how to spin-doctor and promote himself, but there hasn't been much product to show. He was always a very spontaneous person (writing, playing) but now he's working on a BOSTONIAN timetable.

How can he officially re-join if he never officially quit? :D

Actually, to hear Andrew and others tell it...until further notice Sammy is still the lead singer of Van Halen.

I am under that impression, too. There is just nothing going on with the band right now for them to need a singer!

I guess we're all correct: He is and he isn't int he band. The following quote is taken from: http://www.classicrockrevisited.com/Int ... agar05.htm

Jeb: Sammy, I know your focus is on your solo career and your businesses but I have readers who will kill me if I don’t ask this question. Is Van Halen done?

Sammy: I don’t know. It is right now. They can do whatever they want. If Ed and Al want to get a new singer and a new bass player then they can do whatever they want. I wouldn’t complain and I wouldn’t say that they shouldn’t have done that. What I would say is that I think it is a big mistake to do that. I would never try to run their lives like they do me. They are free to do whatever they want. The way they want to do business and the way they want to mingle with their co-band members and other people who are involved in their organization, I don’t want any part of. I am a very happy guy. I have found a happy life. If their lifestyle could fit in with mine then I would have no problem doing it again. I think it is inevitable.

Honestly, straight up, Eddie has changed a lot. Alex is okay and Mikey and I are best friends. Eddie, for me, is the problem. If you talked to Eddie then I am sure he would tell you that I am the problem. If he doesn’t like my lifestyle then I understand that. He wants to be miserable and I want to be happy – it is really that simple. If Eddie wants to be friends again and not do this just for business or for other kinds of reasons – I really don’t know why he wants to do it. I don’t even know if he even wants to do it. But if he wants to do it and do it for the right reasons and get together on a really good level then I would do it. I thought it was going to be great. I was all for the last reunion and it turned out to be pretty fucking tough finishing that tour out. I have to tell you that there were times on that tour that after a show it was like, "Get Sammy out that door and get Eddie out the other door." That ain’t no way to do things. I am not interested in yelling and screaming at anybody much less having someone yell and scream at me for having fun. It is like, "Hey, get the fuck out of my face, dude." There were too many rules – lets put it like that for me. I was told that I can’t do this or I can’t do that or I can’t say this or I can’t say that. Yet, Eddie can go say and do the shit that he did? No way. Right now, it is over for me but if they want to do it on real terms and with no rules and no business shit then I am fine.

Great interview, Fernando. Thanks for posting it. I wonder if Ed will ever give his side of the story with Sammy and Dave. He should write a book.

Well, with the way he spin-doctors everything, I don't think we'd get the truth... just the way he sees it. I mean, I remember less than a year ago we got that GUITAR WORLD issue where he made some revelatory statements, and none of it has come to frution.

My guess is he needed some fast cash (for whatever reason: medical bills, divorce, to get out of contracts), hence the last tour and the three songs to whet our appetite.

The truth seems to be he has become difficult to work with. His brother stands by him (blood is thicker than water), and generally seems to go along with whatever Ed wants. But come on, man.... how hard is it to find a new singer? Post an ad in the paper, and get your lawyer to write up a good contract. I'm sure there would be lines to rival any STAR WARS movie for that gig.

You heard her Andrew. get off your lazy ass and make it happen.

It is a good idea though. prolly cut the fighting down in the Jrny board substantially.

Then we will be requesting "murdering" icons, and "OJ" icons.

Might be one thing to replace Michael Hutchence's vocals, but to replace Sammy? Didn't work for Cherone won't work for anyone. Period!

Hutchence is dead so the replacement wasn't a big deal, could work for AIC also for same reasons. But while Sammy's still doin the business I for sure wouldn't wanna try replacing that vocal demon

I don't think so - this paragraph in Andrew's latest update leads me to believe it's a guitarist or keyboardist:

The format was set to feature an all-star line-up searching for a 'rock star' lead singer, but I have confirmation that last minute negotiations are in place for the show to feature a well known and prominent rock star musician. The show will set about looking for a lead singer for this musician's new 2006 album.
