Roth radio comments

Postby NUBMAN » Thu Jan 05, 2006 12:32 am

Hi all. Its been a while since I have posted. I wanted to visit and comment on Dave's new radio show.
I think Dave's show is actually entertaining. My first impression was that Dave was trying to be serious. I like the crazy Dave and all his Roth-isms, but he is still witty goofy in this controlled environment.

I think the latest VH rumor is not really news. Dave has said before that the reunion is inevitable, but until Ed makes a decision and does something productive it wont matter. The rumor comes at a time when Dave has something to promote. Any way to get his name in the press is positive.

As far as the radio gig, I cant really see Dave doing this for years to come. Dave seems a little too goofy to stay with something for a long time. The show is good, but I think he needs a stronger co-host to stay afloat. He needs someone who can carry the load with professionally when things get tough. Uncle Manny was a hoot, but the lesbian EMS lady isnt exactly funny or informative.

Impressions???

way too much uncle manny on day 1.
He better hope the "inevitable" comes to fruition. he ain't long for this gig in a day when stuff gets the plug pulled in 2 weeks.

Tom Chiasono, the station manager, has said Dave gets 6 months, at least.

Dude, got my sirius..ready to go for Monday...Unedited Stern. It doesn't get any better than that.

From the excerpts...

Postby locobenno » Thu Jan 05, 2006 2:11 pm

I had a listen to some excerpts from his show on the website and I have to say that after the first five to ten really annoyed me, I actually started to get to like it. A lot!

To give you a bit of perspective, we don't have anyone with any sort of charisma on talk back radio over here so you see I have nothing to compare it against. The two "kings" of radio over here are so busy plugging their endoresements and jamming campaign money up the nearest right wing facist that not only can't you take them seriously, you worry about who does. Do we hear about the radio scene in the States over here? Not at all, although we found out that Stern made a movie about himself, and played himself. That was enough for me.

Anyway I think its refreshing. He's got a great voice for it, and I found his honesty a nice touch. The thing I found very disturbing though were the people calling in, that made me look up a couple of times for various reasons. Love that NY accent though, lol "You won' a cuppa cawfee?"

I wish he would have confidence in his material and not incessantly laugh at his own jokes as if to say, "There's the punchline, now laugh."

He's never done that before but now he started and it's an annoyingly insecure thing that too many morning formula guys do. At least he does't have 2 guys and a girl on the side who guffaw with him at every joke yet.

Just trust that people will get it and if not oh, well. The self-laughter ruins the humor.

I haven't heard him yet, but I, too, can't stand it when people laugh at their own jokes. He is not on in Baltimore. Anyplace to hear his show on the net?

Did anyone see Howard on Larry King last night? Fairly interesting. Sounds like he has some interesting stuff prepared for his first week.

Not enough to make me pony up $12.95 a month though. :P

Wouldn't you be fired if you were caught buying your competition's product, Angie?

Hardly. I'm sure my GM's new Escalade has XM in it. Besides, I wouldn't necassarily call it "competition". Apples and orange...to a point.

Do you think a valid comparison is over the air TV vs. cable?

Same content, one's free, one isn't. A lot of people aren't going to pay for what is free. TV is one thing, radio is quite another, I think.

Angie, 75 cents a day to hear Stern, unedited? That's one less diet coke out of the machine. I am sitting here listening to Sirius right now; currently, a bootleg of Boston, recorded at Seattle, 1985 is playing....

I cannot wait til Monday morning.

Vegas is taking bets on how long til the F word comes out...

I am on the fence with satellite radio. Is it worth it? I only drive a few miles to work and back each day, so I don't think It is worth it for me.

That's my thought as well NiG. I always thought it made sense if I was going to be in the car all the time. But if you get the adapters, you can have Satellite radio in the house/office as well. I now spen a lot more time in an office so it is starting to sound much more appealing to me!

I won't miss what I don't hear now. Not to mention his show is half to almost over by the time I get up. I'm not paying for radio.

NIG, 28...You would love it..Commercial free....ANY genre...any band, comedy, spiritual, gospel, rock, metal, country, and sports

Sirius has Nascar, NFL, NHL, NCAA, BB/FB, everything..

AND

The radio I got, goes from car to home to boom box..awesome..take it anywhere....

The size of a calculator, 1998 circa........about 3 inches by 5...simply amazing
Besides, Angie, with Stern you get 3 stations, including, "Tissue time with Heidi" and the Wack Pack channel. No, the Loons are not featured.

A buddy gave me his XM radio with the subscription, it is awesome.

As for Roth, I have enjoyed this week. He got better as he went.

As for Stern.........well,. not my cup of tea. But he isn't going for my age demographic anyways
