To that popular guy in high school who sat across the room from me and said, "this album is not what Van Halen should sound like," I will finally reply 22 years later with, "Yuh-huh!"
I needed to get that out there 'cause it has been buggin' me all this time!

It's a lean nasty album with absoutley ZERO fat. Side 2 is insane.
"I'll Wait" is so good to me it's almost impossible. To me it's the song from the Dave era (all 3 have one IMO) that is so totally utterly unique and perfect that you just go, "wow. Where the hell did they come up with THAT?"

Recently rediscovered it on D2 of BOBW and it just so amazingly cool.
I like songs like this that display like a slow burning, controlled menace and darkness....
No incincerity at all...
Not to mention musically flawless. It is a rare combination of musical elements that come together. NEVER get tired of hearing it.

Love it...part of my theory about all of side 2 as the secret weapon.
Fuck it, '84 is coming off the shelf tonight and into the car for the AM ride in now. Can't wait.

You know what? You're kinda right about that.
WHAT a song, indeed. NIG, Bobbo good call. Heard the record this morning. Sheer bliss.
Side 2 is just......and I quothe Marvin Hagler, "Destruction And Destroy." Amongst the greatest "album sides" in history.

True dat. It really doesn't get any better than VH1, II, W&CF, FW, DD and 1984. I love Sammy, but his VH body of work doesn't measure up with that collection of rock excellence.

Oh God....I know this an '84 thread but Secrets is incredible. just sweet. "...Her feet're making tracks in the winter snowowo...she got a rainbow that touches her shoulda...she be headed where the thunder rolls."
That and Little Guitars....another great album. And who can forget "BLlllrrrraaaarrrggggghhhhmumble, bllrtggghhhhgggg..........Bumbadidabumbadidadidadidada?"

Top Jimmy is a cool tune. The guitar work in it is sick. Eddie at his creative best. Is there a story behind this tune?

Indeed! Dave was and probably still is a big fan of Top Jimmy (the musician) and his band The Rhythm Pigs.
