Steve Perry in Vanhalen!

The biggest supergroup of all times would be Steve Perry in Vanhalen, since Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar are doing their own "The other half" thing and David Lee Roth Band are out on tour from time to time I think the 2 biggest ego´s Perry and Ed VH should do an album together and then play songs from both the VH and JRNY catalogue.
They need a bassplayer, any suggestions of a HUGE name?!
Hell I like this idea a lot,it´s crazy I know and it would be almost impossible to pull off but we´re talking about superheroes in the music biz so I think they could.
I mean anything can happen today with Soto in Journey,McAuley in Survivor etc.
And don´t give me that B-SHIT that Perry can´t sing coz we all know he´s capable of anything out of the ordinary.
He´s the fxxking VOICE GOD!
(I posted this at the Journey forum as well but I want your opinion on it too)

not that it would ever happen...

just wanted to let you know Perry lost his voice and can't really sing anymore, so that is why you never hear about him anymore...

Not according to Andrew. Although a new solo recording would be great.

Do you have more info than the remark from Uncle Joe? Because he said within the last 10 months he had the pleasure of hearing Perry in front of a mic. But he did not say there were multiple visits and he did not say he was recording. All he said was his voice sounded good.

I wonder if this was while he was working on the Houston DVD OR the remasters, maybe Perry slipped into a studio to see what his voice sounded like under studio conditions. I think it is a step forward, but with Perry, it doesn't mean much until something actually comes out.

Call me crazy, but this COULD WORK, baby!!!!!

With this new Van Halen full of workaholics like Ed and Perry we should have an album at least half done by the time Andrew's brand new son is ready to take over the site.

Let´s just say I got my sources.
And even if it takes forever for a release - it will be a classic and not another vanished cd
that no one knows the name of in 20 years.

Like FTLOSM??? That didn;t really make a large dent in the history of rock...

Nope, sure didn't. I am not interested in a Perry CD full of ballads.

FTLOSM sold 400,000 compared to Arrival by Jrny that sold 200,000 and I don´t even wanna think of Generations......scary numbers.
There are also more ballads on Arrival than on FTLOSM so don´t get me started on this.

There is no doubt that a Perry CD will sell. Everyone (almost) wants to hear him again (myself included). And I also think Sony (or somebody) will promote it. But how many singles charted from FTLOSM? You Better Wait got moderate airplay, that's all. How many of his videos did you see. They made 'em, but were they "visible"?

Arrival (last I heard) did around 350,000 so it was not far off FTLOSM. But the singles got no promotion. They charted, but just barely. And Sony totally dropped the ball. I would equate Arrival sales to Perry's CD sales: curiosity and die-hards (of which there will likely be a few more given all the time that has gone by and all the controversy of the past years). But I don't see it being huge.

Generations cannot be used as a benchmark because A) NO LABEL; B) Concert "giveaway". Of course, if the band wanted the concert giveaways counted, they could have...for a fee. But if you multiply the number of shows by very average attendance, you can get a number around 300,000. (This could adjust for the venues that did not give copies of the CD). So again, we are in the same "area" of "sales".

But you said it will not vanish. I say FTLOSM did. Yes, Arrival did. Yes, Generations will. Hell, TBF did. And so will Perry's next CD. It will sell for sure. But I doubt you will still be hearing it anywhere 10 years after it's release...maybe even only 5 years later.

People paid for Gens. with a higher ticket price. I still say good on the band for not forking out for the certification of what must've been their 300 k sold, plus whatever the retail release shifted.

I would love that. But neither Eddie or Steve have it in them to do one damn thing that a fan of theirs would want.

Not Steve Perry.....not enough power or range for that matter - or not enough range with that power!!

Bach could work.....although he's a dick he may have mellowed a bit in the right ways, and he might fit vocally at least.....I mean, who really fits with Ed these days???
