Loverboy?

Postby Dux » Thu Aug 17, 2006 10:01 am

Has anyone seen Loverboy recently? I saw them a few weeks ago in Lima OH and the sound was horrid. Last Friday, they performed on Live with Regis and Kelly and again, I wasn't impressed. Anyone know what's up with them?

Last time I saw them, they sounded pretty good, but that was a couple years ago. I"m going to see them next Friday, we'll see how it sounds.

Was there a donut near by? Damn...I saw them last Friday night and they sounded great, but MAN has Mike pounded it on! He's got lovely new dentures as well. Ah...the joys if aging, even for a rock star. He can still hit those notes though, although I was very disappointed they didn't play "Lovin' Every Minute of It". They also pulled a Journey with no encore.

I know Mike has struggled with his weight lately, but I was under the impression that he had finally shed a few pounds.
Who cares as long as he can still sing!

I know that the band does a lot for the American Diabetes Association. Is it possible that Mike has diabetes? That would explain the weight battle.

Funny that you mentioned the dentures. I took ONE photo, but was really too far back to get any good shots. The one picture I did take, if I zoom way in on it, I swear it looks like he doesn't have ANY teeth at all.

From the sounds of the show I saw (it was a freebie show, for one thing) they had to have an amateur sound crew, because I don't think anyone knew what they were doing. The show was about a half hour late starting because of problems with the sound and then the first sounds we heard were the loud BONGGGGGGGGGGGGG of the keyboard and feedback. Oh, the feedback. If I close my eyes, I can still feel it. LOL Maybe it was just an off night for them or something. Mike Reno didn't hit a single high note without his voice cracking badly.

I watched the Regis and Kelly thing too...wasn't impressed. And I always liked Loverboy! :(

edited to add: Even though Mike's put on a few lbs (and who hasn't after all these years?), I have to say that he's looking better than he did from a TV show I saw last summer. I'm not sure what the show was, but they had lots of 'old' performers come back and do an old song. I think they had to do one of their own songs and one by a current group. Anyone else see that? He was very hefty then....and looked like he was white-haired! He's slimmed down a lot since that show anyway. That's all.

Here's the photo:

I saw Loverboy in St. Louis in September. They sounded very very good. Mike Reno does NOT have a denture. He could not have sung like that if he did and I could spot one a mile away. However Reno did 'look' pretty bad. He looked like he just rolled of the couch after a 3 day bing. Very overwight. I also noticed he had very limited mobility with his neck and never raised his arms over his shoulders. I suspect he has some sort of neck disorder that he takes steroid medications for and that has induced the weight gain. Still, has every bit of his voice. BTW, his solo cd - Renovation - is fantastic.

If he doesn't have dentures, what's with the toothless look in my photo? And Angiekay seeing him with brand new sparkling dentures? FYI - tons of singers have dentures. I know what I saw and Angiekay knows what she saw. You come on here stating that you're a dentist, yet your spelling is atrocious. I hope you fix teeth better than you spell.
